ABOUT YOURSELF
I am delighted to introduce myself as Jitesh Singh, son of Dinesh Singh and Manu Singh. I hail
from Darjeeling, a hill station, located in West Bengal, India. I have been living in a joint family
that include my uncle, aunts and brothers. My father is Businessman who looks after the family
Business, my mother is a homemaker and also looks after the business. I have an elder sister who
has recently completed her bachelor degree from India.
I am eighteen years of age and have recently completed my ISC examination from St. Paul’s
School, Darjeeling with an aggregate of 87% and had previously completed my ICSE
examination from the same institution.

2. COURSE DETAILS
After careful evaluation of all study options that relate to my field of study, I have decided to
study Bachelor of Commerce with a major in accounting for my higher education. I am very well
acquainted with the nature of the subjects that are included in this program as I had opted for
these subjects in my ISC examination. The primary reasons that made me choose this program
are; because of my interest and the knowledge I have in this field of study and the weightage this
degree has in the outside world. While talking about the world of commerce and management,
having a strong knowledge in accountancy and finance will always give any individual the upper
hand. The course options that are available for this program cover all the necessary topics that
are vital in this field of study. It provides a prefect blend between theoretical and practical
studies which I like a lot about the program. I am fully about the total financial cost that would
be required for the completion of my program in the university.

3. ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Any high school graduate would look forward to pursuing his/her studies from a top university in
the world. Hence just like many others I too was inclined towards this dream. After the
completion of 12th grade I spend a lot of time to research the most suitable university for me. I
wanted to study accounting from one of the top Universities in the world, as it will provide
quality education along with world class experience. Keeping this in mind I have chosen the
University Of Queensland.
The University Of Queensland is ranked among the top 50 universities in the world according to
QS University Ranking. Also, in the subjects of accounting and finance it has a rank of 43 rd
globally. The other universities that I had applied for were Macquarie University, University of
Western Australia and University Technology Sydney. Out of these the University of
Queensland is much higher ranking and reputation worldwide. As compared to other Group of
Eight Universities in Australia, The University of Queensland provides a much lager
international exposure and healthy environment for education. The courses that I wish to pursue
in the University of Queensland have an excellent curriculum with an amazing faculty.
These courses are :
1. businesses law
2. financial report analysis
3. quantitative business analysis
4. Information system transforming business.
Along with these few major subjects are:
1. Auditing and public practice
2. External reporting issue
3. Management accounting
4. Corporation accounting
5. Income tax law
These courses lay strong emphasis on accounting knowledge that will help me in my career
to opt for accounting qualifications.

4. WHY AUSTRALIA
Choosing a country was a difficult task but Australia made the cut at the end. Its amazing weather, great
people and friendly environment make it an excellent choice to pursue higher education. Moreover,
Australia is among the 3 most popular destinations for overseas students after UK and USA with 7 out of
top 100 universities in the world so it shows the quality of education provided by the country. I also
weighed on other countries but the USA was very expensive, Canada is too cold and not promising with
regards study options in accounting, and Europe being totally different language and culture wise.
Completion of my bachelor degree from Australia will help me attain global recognition and will prove to
be beneficial for my career, both academically as well as in terms of experience.

Again, I had numerous options regarding the prefect university for me in Australia. After seeking advice
from few friends and relatives I had shortlisted the universities in Brisbane owing to a couple of reasons;
its amazing weather, culture and presence of international students that develop a healthy environment for
education. Also, being an outsider in Australia it would be more suitable for me to adjust in Brisbane
which is a perfect combination of a city life as well as peaceful environment rather than cities like
Melbourne and Sydney, which seems to be more populated and expensive. After this it was very clear for
me to choose The University Of Queensland, which is the best university in Brisbane. Being among the
top 50 universities in the world and one of the best in the county for accountancy and commerce, it is a
major attraction for young minds from all over the world, it seemed like a dream university which I would
love to be a part of.

5. WHY NOT INDIA;

Keeping my goal and target in my mind, The University Of Queensland seems to be the excellent and
brilliant place for carrying my career ahead to its peak as doing a qualification at an international level
will benefit me.

There is no denying that there are many universities available in my country such as well which may offer
similar study options, but there are few primary reasons that have led me to avoid studying in India.
Firstly, owing to it ever increasing population there is unnecessary competition in India regarding
admission into universities. This competition make it almost impossible for some students to be admitted
into the top universities in the county.
Secondly, While in Australia the approach of teaching is practical along with the use of latest techniques
and updated syllabus, education in India is purely based on theoretical knowledge. The course curriculum
is quite different and laid back from the curriculum of Australian colleges and universities. Even the
modes of delivering education are well furnished as the latest technologies are being used to impart
education to the students such as smart-classes equipped with projectors or other audio-visual aids and so
on.
Pursing a degree in India will fail to give me the experience that will be very necessary for me in my
career.
Last but not the least, the value and recognition of an international degree due to the latest business
techniques and understanding of the advanced economy are always higher than a local degree especially
in one of the most emerging markets like India today. Hence internationally qualified candidates are
always preferred comparatively. Due to all these merits of overseas education, I have decided to have an
international degree rather a domestic one.

6. FUTURE PLAN
After the successful completion of my course, I firmly believe that I would have attained a vast knowledge and
experience in this world of accountancy and finance. I would look forward to the job opportunities that would
come my way and also work towards getting accounting qualifications such as CPA Australia. These
international qualifications along with my degree will surely give me an edge over other graduates from my
country as well as internationally.
Knowledge is never wasted, keeping this in mind I plan to pursue further masters degree from top universities
as well as plan to attain global accounting qualifications such as ACCA that will help me climb higher steps in
the world of commerce.
