HE WAS CONCEIVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
Jesus Christ was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin
Mary.
Jesus Christ is one Divine Person with two Natures, Divine and Human.
THERE ARE FOUR MARIAN DOGMAS
1. MARY, MOTHER OF GOD
We believe that Mary is the mother of Jesus, who is God; therefore she can be called
Mother of God.
2. THE PERFECT VIRGINITY
We believe that Mary remained virgin – before, during, and after the birth of Jesus -
because she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and because she was totally
consecrated to God.
3. THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
We believe that Mary was conceived in the womb of St. Anne without the stain of the
Original Sin;
this privilege was granted in view of her divine motherhood.
4. THE GLORIOUS ASSUMPTION
We believe that at the end of her life, Mary was assumed body and soul to the glory of
Paradise.
THE EARLY LIFE OF JESUS
THE ANNUNCIATION
Nine months before Jesus birth, the Archangel Gabriel announced unto Mary that she
would become the mother of Messiah.
THE VISITATION
Knowing that her cousin Elizabeth was six months pregnant, The Virgin Mary promptly
visited her at Ein Karem, in Judea.
THE NATIVITY
While Joseph and Mary were in Bethlehem for the census, she gave birth to Jesus and
laid him in manger.
THE CIRCUMCISION AND NAMING OF JESUS
Eight days after the Nativity, the Holy Infant was circumcised according to the Law of
Moses, and was named Jesus.
THE PRESENTATION OF JESUS IN THE TEMPLE
Forty days after Christmas, Joseph and Mary brought the child Jesus to the Temple of
Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
THE FINDING OF JESUS IN THE TEMPLE
When Jesus was 12 years old, during the yearly pilgrimage to Jerusalem, he was lost.
After three days of anxious search, Joseph and Mary found him in the Temple.
THE HIDDEN LIFE IN NAZARETH
Jesus lived in Nazareth for 30 years, working as a carpenter; he was obedient to his
parents and grew in wisdom, age and grace.
JESUS’ PUBLIC MINISTRY
THE BAPTISM AT THE JORDAN
At the age of 30, Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by St. John at
the Jordan River.
THE TEMPTATION OF CHRIST
After his baptism, Jesus spent 40 days in the desert of Judea, where he was tempted by
the Devil.
THE CALLING OF THE APOSTLES
One of the first public deeds of Jesus was the calling of the Twelve Apostles, who would
continue his ministry after his Ascension into heaven.
THE WEDDING AT CANA
The first miracle of Jesus was performed during a wedding at Cana in Galilee, where
Jesus, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, transformed water into wine.
THE TRANSFIGURATION
The purpose of the Transfiguration was to prepare the Apostles for the upcoming
passion and death, and to certify that Jesus was the awaited Messiah.
THE BEATITUDES
The summary of Jesus teaching are the eight Beatitude, which define the true
Christians. The number seven signifies creation, because the Universe was created in
seven days; the number eight signifies resurrection, because Jesus would rise on the
eight day.
HE SUFFERED UNDER PONTIUS PILATE, WAS CRUCIFIED, DIED AND WAS
BURIED
THE MYSTERY OF REDEMPTION
The Mystery of Redemption is the divine plan to save humankind from the slavery
of sin and death.
Hebrew 9:12 “Christ obtained eternal redemption with his own blood”
Jesus chose to suffer and die for three reasons.
1. First, that we may love God.
2. Second, that we may hate sin.
3. Third, that we may learn how to suffer.
Ultimately, all of us sinners are responsible for the death of Jesus
As St. Francis of Asisi said : “Nor did demons crucify him; it is you who have crucified
him
and crucify him still, when you delight in your vices and sins.”
Jesus on the cross is the symbol of the love of God for us.
John 3:16 “ For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who
believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life.”
John 15:13 “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”
Christ died on the cross to do the will of the Father.
Matthew 26:39 “Father , if it possible, let this cup pass me
by. Nevertheless, let your will be done , not mine!”
Matthew 16:24-25 “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his
cross and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses
his life for my sake will find it.”
THE PASSION OF JESUS CHRIST
The Entry into Jerusalem
The passion of the Christ took place in Jerusalem, during the Holy week and it began
with the triumphant entry into the city.
People shouting:“ Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name
of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest.”(Matthew 21:9 )
The Cleansing of the Temple
Jesus entered the Temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there.
He said to them: “It is written: ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you are making
it a den of thieves”(Matthew 21:12-13)
The Last Supper
On Thursday evening, Jesus and his Apostles celebrated the Last Supper at the
Cenacle in Jerusalem.
He took the unleavened bread and said: “This is my body given for you; do this in
memory of me.”
In the same way , he took the cup saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
which will be shed for you” (Luke22:19-20)
The Agony in Gethsemane
After Supper, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane, on the Mount of Olives, to pray
together with his Apostles. As he was in deep agony, and was sweating drops of blood
he exclaimed: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me ; yet not my will but yours
be done.” (Luke 22:39-48)
Jesus Before Pilate
After his arrest, Jesus was brought before the Sanhedrin, presided by Caiaphas the
high priest, then to King Herod, and finally to the Roman governor to have him
sentenced to death.
Pilate asked the crowd: “Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas,
or Jesus who is called the Messiah?” (Matthew 27:17)
The Way of the Cross
On the way to Calvary, Jesus said to the women of Jerusalem, who were weeping for
him: “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your
children” (Luke 23:28)
Then, because of Jesus’ repeated falls under the weight of the cross, Simon the
Cyrenian was pressed into service to carry his cross.
The Crucifixion
When they had reached the Golgotha, the soldiers stripped Jesus of his clothing and
crucified him together with two thieves. They placed a board over , with the inscription:
“Iesus Nazarenus, Rex Iudaeorum” which means “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews”.
The Crucifixion
One of the criminals insulted him; but the other side “ Jesus , remember me when you
enter into your kingdom.” And Jesus replied : “I tell you the truth, today you will be
with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43)
The Death of Christ
From noon onward, darkness came over the whole land. At three in the afternoon,
Jesus cried out in a loud voice: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Then
he gave up his spirit.
The centurion and his soldiers feared greatly when the saw the earthquake and they
shouted: “Truly, this was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:45-56)
The Burial of Jesus
Before sunset, having obtained the permission from Pilate, Joseph of Arimathea
accompanied by the Virgin Mary and the other pious women , took the body of Jesus ,
wrapped in a clean
inen shroud and laid him in his new tomb, that he had hewn in the rock.
