1.1 Express ideas clearly, in written, X Many of my courses have taught me how to express
multimodal, and oral communication, ideas clearly in multiple different formats. Mainly my
considering purpose, audience, and format. Composition and Culture class taught me how to
properly address an audience, how to incorporate my
purpose, and proper formatting for different
assignments. One example was my final research
paper for the celebration of writing.
1.2 Analyze issues, make decisions, and X My Transition to Professional Practice nursing course
address problems using critical thinking. is helpful with this. I completed leadership cases in
which we were given issues and needed to correct
them using critical thinking and nursing judgement.
1.3 Demonstrate leadership, including X In my Transition to Professional Practice nursing
negotiation, relational, consensus-building, course, we had many group projects. These involved
and teamwork skills. building a consensus on an issue and using teamwork
to create a solution. For example, we completed a
presentation on shock and how to treat it.

linguistic and cultural settings. Westmoreland Community College to complete
American Sign Language I and II as my language
requirements. What I learned from these courses
helps me communicate with those in the deaf
community. I am now able to sign basic sentences to
communicate with patients who are hard of hearing.
2.2 Use time, place, and social change as X During my Faith Religion and Society class, I

3.1 Generate, analyze, and interpret X Although I did complete an Introduction to Statistics
numerical data. course, I don’t feel that I took a lot away from it. A
lot of the data I can analyze has to deal with my
future nursing career in the sense of patient statistics.
This was learned through my Research and
Evidence-Based Practice course with the application
of many statistical journals and articles.
3.2 Locate, analyze, evaluate, and organize, X My Composition and Culture course was extremely
primary and secondary sources, including helpful in showing me what is and isn’t a credible
expressive media, to comprehend the source. When I did my final research project, the
significance of an issue or an event. professor showed me how to determine credibility
such as using .org or .edu sources and research
journals.
3.3 Interpret quantitative and qualitative X My Research and Evidence-Based Practice course

different assignments, I was able to better understand

and worldviews. In this course we read many books
and watched movies from different parts of the
world. In doing this, I learned to appreciate their

4.1 Employ ethical decision-making grounded X The Introduction to Professional Nursing class, was
in philosophical inquiry. one of the first courses that really dove into ethics.
We discussed the history of nursing, philosophies
surround it, and discussed ethics in nursing practice. I
recall we did a test on bias to further our discussion
about ethical treatment of those in the healthcare
setting.
4.2 Apply Catholic social teaching to the X During Medical Genetics, I completed an Ethical
analysis of contemporary social issues. Issue Vignette assignment. In this, I used the
principles of Catholic Social Teaching to determine
whether it was ethical to test athletes for a genetic
factor and award them scholarships.
4.3 Explain the value of diverse spiritual and X Taking a Faith Religion and Society course was
religious perspectives. extremely beneficial in seeing the value of diverse
spiritual and religious perspectives. We discussed
multiple different religions, their traditions, and how
they came to be. It gave me a newfound respect for
these other religions.
4.4 Integrate the action of charity with the X For my Community and Global Health nursing
virtue of justice course, I completed some community service at the
Union Mission. This showed me the importance of
charity and how it can help change people’s lives for
the better.
4.5 Exercise responsible freedom and civic X Although I feel that Seton Hill has taught me
engagement based on an informed value informed values throughout many of my classes such

I have not exactly exercised them yet. I use these
values in my clinical experiences when making

5.1 Model ethical behavior, responsible X I believe that taking Senior Integrative Seminar and

responsible freedom. However, I feel that I could
have done more to show engaged citizenship
through my undergrad and this course.

professional opportunities. assigned a preceptor at UPMC East Hospital. In this
clinical, I was able to gain experiential learning to
pursue professional opportunities. I discussed
working at the hospital with my preceptor, but they
do not have a Labor and Delivery unit. However,
since Magee-Women’s Hospital is affiliated with
UPMC, I could use my preceptor as a reference for
a position there.
