LESSON PLAN IN MUSIC


Grade Level and Subject: 5 - MUSIC Inclusive Date: Week 1
Teacher: Serjoe Orven Gutierrez
Subject Matter: Meter in Twos, Threes, and Fours

Competencies:

Identify accurately the duration of notes and rests in 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4 time
signatures

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. identify accented and unaccented pulses in 2/4, ¾, and 4/4 time


signatures;
2. respond to metric pulses of music heard with appropriate conducting
gestures; and
3. perform songs in 2/4, ¾, and 4/4 time signatures
Essential Questions:

1. Why is it important to know the meter of the song?


2. How can you identify the accented and unaccented beat in a music?

Essential Understanding:

1. Being able to identify the meter of a musical piece helps in responding to


it appropriately.
2. Reading and writing notes and rests help us to interpret a piece of music
independently.

Procedure:
1. Introduction and Motivation for the New Lesson

- Ask the students to read the questions shown in the PPT presentation.
- Lead the students in discussing the value of punctuality in coming to school after answering the last
question.
o Do you come in the google meet on time?
- Ask the students to read the objective shown on the PPT presentation

2. Discussion and Activities

- Teach the song in “Let’s Go on page 3 and 4 of the worktext by rote


- Let them sing each song by heart
- Ask the students to move to the beat of the songs by clapping or marching.
- Ask the students to answer the question on page 4 of the worktext

- Discuss the concept of accented and unaccented beats.


- Let the students create their own beat, and let them put accent marks on it.
- Process the activity by asking the following question:
o How are the beats grouped in each song?
o Do they have the same groupings of beats?
- Discuss the concept of METER
- Teach the conducting patterns of 2/4, 3/4, and 4/4

- Let the students practice the different conducting patterns.


- Let the student perform the conducting patterns individually

- What have you learned today?


- Why is it important to know the meter of the song?
- How can you identify the accented and unaccented beats in a music?
