Experiment 4 - Orientation Effect

1) The experiment aims to study the effect of build orientation on part quality, build time, and material consumption for parts built using FFF 3D printing. 2) A desktop computer, interface software, and FFF 3D printer are used. The stl file orientation is varied and the build time and material consumption from the print preview are noted. 3) Test results showing different build times and material consumed for various part orientations are presented in a table. A graph is plotted to analyze the results. 4) The conclusions discuss how build orientation affects part quality, time and material usage for FFF printing. The best orientation for a selected part is also shown.

Experiment No: 4

Aim: Study the effect of build orientation on part quality, build time and material consumption
in an FFF built part

Apparatus: Desktop computer, interface software (Repetier host), FFF 3D Printer

Procedure:
1) Import the stl file to the 3D Printing interface software.
2) Decide on the orientation of the model.
3) Keeping speed, infill, layer thickness and other variables constant, vary the orientation of
the file in the build interface software
4) Note the total build time and material consumption indicated in the print preview

Fixed Build specifications:

Sr. No. Specifications
1. Temperature of nozzle 210
2. Bed temperature 60
3. Feedrate 4800 mm/min
4. Print Speed 50 mm/sec
5. Infill density 10%
6. Layer thickness 0.2mm
