BSP Thread Guide for Engineers

BSP thread is commonly used in Australia and Commonwealth countries and is based on trade size rather than actual diameter. There are two types of BSP threads: - BSPP has both female and male threads that are parallel. - BSPT has a parallel female thread and a tapered male thread. Within BSPT, the female thread is also called BSPP and the male BSPT, though they are both technically BSPT threads. Both BSPP and BSPT threads have the same pitch, angle of 55 degrees, and rounded thread shape.

BSP thread form stands for British Standard Pipe and is

7 is based on trade size rather than actual diameter which
1/4 19 1.33 13.15 11.44 6.012 can lead to some confusion when measuring ports.
7 7 5 There are two types of BSP threads;

- BSPT - Female thread is parallel and the male thread is

Within BSPT it is also common to call the female thread

The below table gives the major and minor diameter for each BSP Trade Thread Size. The minor diameter may be ever so
slightly smaller than what is in the table depending upon where it has been manufactured to in the thread gauge.
