Introduction
Thankyou and appreciate the selection panel for the pre-qualification, and providing the opportunity for
interview
Provide brief intro- Name, residence, educational qualifications and work done till date,
started from volunteering in school and youth environment programs,
interest in urban environment protection collaborating with local governments
started, provided technical assistance and support in designing activities such as municipal waste
management, river water monitoring water pollution control and school environmental activities; co-
authored a paper in municipal waste management
including development/integration of environment and climate change adaptation activities identified
through participatory consultation in annual development plans of municipal and village council
2015 Earthquake was turning point in my career, with involvement for more than 3 years in post
emergency response on water, sanitation and hygiene promotion and disaster risk reduction program,
supporting communities and local authorities for resilient sustainable water and sanitation facilities
Now, I am engaged in supporting policy analysis, identifying opportunities to influence disaster risk
reduction and climate change adaptation activities, includes research, capacity building, advocacy,
networking, coordination and collaboration with government and non-government agencies ;
Why this course ?
It is only one of two degree that has strong link and alignment with the "climate" component, next to
Coastal Hazards – Risks, Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation. The objective of the course that
develops skills of professional and help specialize practitioners on sustainable, climate sensitive urban
development
the interdisciplinary nature of the course with blend of science, management and planning , problem
based learning approach with industry partners has been attractions for me while I explored the course
on the Erasmus catalogue
The curriculum pretty well aligns with my educational background of environmental science ; the work I
have done in climate adaptation, urban environment management and planning.
Motivation :
3 reasons:
1) further deepen my skills and understanding of urban environment management, to acquire
knowledge and experience on new issues, how to integrate scientific basis for better and
improved urban resilience and sustainability, explore small scale solutions for bigger issues like
climate change with focus on urban area, experience the practices, current and recent
technologies and knowledge that can be adapted, applied for implementing climate-resilient
and sustainable solutions
2) want to expand my basic knowledge of environmental science through an inter-disciplinary
degree in climate and sustainability which has focus in urban; the need has been evident for this
kind of academic skills to design and implement applicable, scalable solutions not only in
developed countries but also in developing countries as the proportion of people living in urban
areas are increasing and these needs to be addressed through improved urban planning and
management
3) develop foundation for academic research in this sector as current degree as I had suggestions
from previous applications for higher research degree to have strong research component, at
least 25% - that will allow me to explore opportunities later
Career Plans:
2 pathways:
a) I will explore opportunities for research degree leading to PhD in climate science, urban
environment management and /or planning
b) Simultaneously I will be actively looking for opportunities to bring the knowledge into practice
through involvement into private and non-government sector and in the long run, I would like to
be engaged in providing consultancies, technical assistance for small scale, adaptive solutions to
ongoing issues on climate and urban management, with focus on developing countries
Interests:
interpreting science so for wider understanding.
following global discussions, debates and research in climate science- IPCC WG VI report;
participating in discussion forums, like CBA 15, COP 26 virtually participated in COP 26
highlighting need to financing at local level for risk reduction and climate adaptation
open to learning and acquiring new skills - I have recently started learning Python for data
science,
Any questions:
Will there be opportunities to take additional courses beyond the curriculum and structure of the
program ?
