(I)Temples in Chamba

1. Manimahesh Temple ( Naggara Style)


• It is located in Bharmour.
• Built by Meru Varman.
• It is devoted to land Shiva.
2. Shakti Devi Temple (Pent roof style)
• It is located in Chhatrari.
• Built by Meru Varman.
• Constructed by the chief craftsman of Meru Varman in the 7 th century – “Gugga”
Shilpi.
3. Lakshana Devi Temple (Pent roof style)
• It is located in Bharmour.
• Dedicated to Mahishasurmardini.
• Built by ‘Gugga’ shilpi of Meru Varman.
4. Ganesh Temple (Pyramid style)
• It is located in Bharmour.
• Built during the time of Meru Varman.
5. Narasingha Temple (Shikhar style)
• It is located in Bharmour.
• It was build in 940 AD by Tribhuvan Rekha Devi, the queen of Yugankara Varman.
6. Hariraya Temple (Shikhar style)
• Located in the city of Chamba (Chougan)
• Built by Lakshman Varman in 11 th century.
• Dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
7. Lakshmi Narayana Temple (Shikhar style)
• Located in the city of Chamba.
• Built by Sahil Varman.
• It is a group of 6 temples.
• A brass image of Gauri Shankar in one shrine was metalled by Yugankar son of Sahil
Varman.
8. Chaurasi Temple
• Located at Bharmaur.
• It is group of 84 tempes.
• It was built in 9 th century by Sahil Varman.
9. Champavati Temple (Shikhar style)
• Built by Sahil Varman.
10. Kameshwar Mahadev Temple
• Built by Sahil Varman.
11. Gauri Shankar Temple
• Built by Yugankara Varman.
12. Bansi Gopal Temple
• Built by Balabhadra Varman in 1595 AD.
13. Sita Ram Temple
• Built by Batlu, nurse of king Prithvi Singh.
14. Hidimba Temple
• It is located in Mehla.
• Built by Batlu, nurse of king Prithvi Singh.
15. Radha Krishna Temple
• Built by the Rani Radha of Jeet singh in 1825 AD.
16. Khajji Nag Temple
• Located at Khajjiar.
• Built by Batlu, nurse of king Prithvi Singh.

1. Bijli Mahadev Temple (Pent roof)


• The temple is built entirely of stone and wood.
• This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
• Every year, Lightening falls on the Shivling.
2. Bajaura Temple (Shikhar style)
• Located in Bajaura.
• This temple in dedicated to Lord Shiva.
• This reflects Pala art Influence.

3. Hidimba Devi Temple (Pagoda style)


• Dedicated to Bhim’s wife Hidimba Devi.
• Built by Raja Bahadur singh in 1553 AD.
• In may, Dhungri fair in organised here.
• Located in Manali, also called Dhungri temple.
4. Monu Temple (Pagoda style)
• Located in Shanshar near Manali.
• This temple in dedicated to Manu.
5. Raghunath Temple
• Built by Jagat Singh in 1651.
• Devoted to Raghu Nath Ji.
• Damodar das brought the idol of Rama from Ayodhya.
6. Jamlu Temple
• Located in Malana.
• Devoted to Jamadagini known as Jamlu Devta.
• Jamadagini was the husband of Renuka ji and father of Parshuram.
7. Parshurama Temple: at Nirmand.
8. Kartikeya Temple
• Located at Kankhal.
• Devoted to Kartikeya son of Lord Shiva.
9. Kapil Muni Temple
• Built by Raja Man Singh.
10. Tripura Sundry (Pagoda style): At Naggar
11. Triyugi Narayan (Pagoda style): At Dyar.
12. Dakhni Mahadev : At Nirmand.
13. Gauri Shankar Temple : At Naggar.
14. Ramchandra Temple : At Manikaran.

• Located at Bajaura.
• It has been rated as one of first movement of western Himalayas and unique
example of later Gupta tradition.

(III) Temples in Kangra
1. Jwalamukhi Temple (Dome style)
• It is one of 51 Mahashakti Pithas.
• Akbar offered a gold umbrella to the Jwalamukhi temple.
• Maharaja Ranjit singh built a dome of gold water here in 1813 AD.
• Kanwar Naunihal singh presented carved silver doors to it in 1840.
2. Masrur Rock Cut Temple (Shikhar style)
• It is a Nagara style temple built by king Lalitaditya of Kashmir in 8 th century.
• Masrur is a group of 15 temples in Dehra Gopipur Tehsil (Haripura)
• Masrur temples are known as “Ellora of Himachal Pradesh”
• Discovered by H.L Shuttlworth.
3. Bajreshwari Mata Temple
• It was destroyed by Mahmud Ghazni, which was later rebuilt.
• It was destroyed in 1905 earthquake.
4. Baijnath Temple (Shikhar style)
• Dedicated to Lord Shiva.
• It was built in 1204 AD by merchants named Manyuka and Ahuka.
• Sansar chand renovated this temple in 19 th century.
5. Trilokpur Temple
• Located near Kotla in Kangra.
• Dedicated to Lord Shiva.
• Totla River which originates from Jamula Parbat flows nearby this temple.
6. Bhadarkali Temple
• It is a leaving temple located in the search area of Kangra.
• The restoration work of this temple is done by INTACH ( Indian National Trust
for Art and Cultural Heritage)
7. Bhagsunath Temple : Built by king Dharam Chand.
8. Brijraj Bihari Temple : At Nurpur, built by king Basu.
9. Lakshmi Narayan Temple: Built by Sansar Chand in Alampur.
10. Chamunda Devi Temple : Built in 19 th century.
11. Archna Devi Temple : At Jwalamukhi.
• Famous for goddess of children.
12. Lord Dhruveshwara Temple : Built by Sage Agastya.
13. Mahishasura Temple : At Bajaura.

(IV) Temples in Mandi

1. Bhootnath Temple (Shikhar style)


• Located in Mandi city.
• It was built by Ajbar Sen in 1526 AD.
• Dedicated to Ardhanarishvara.
2. Prashar Temple (Pagoda style)
• Built by Ban Sen in 1346 AD.
3. Shyamakali Temple (Dome style)
• Built by king Shyam sen.
4. Madhavrao Temple
• Built by raja Suraj Sen 1705 AD.
5. Kamaksha Devi Temple (Pagoda style)
• Located in Karsog (Kao village)
• Built in 10th - 11 th century
6. Shikari Devi
• Devoted to Goddess Shikari Devi.
• This temple is without roof near Karsog.
• Hight – 10000ft.
7. Panchavakta Temple
• Built in 14th century.
• Situated at confluence of Beas and Suketi.
• Resembles to Trilokinath.

(V) Temples in Sirmour
1. Trilokpur Temple (Dome Style)
• Built by Deep Prakash in 1573 AD.
• Dedicated to Mata Bala Sundari.
• There are 84 bells tied together at the entrance of the temple. There for the
Goddess is also known as “ Chaurasi Ghanta wali Devi”

2. Gayatri Temple
• Located in Renuka
• Built by Mahatma Paraya Nand Brahmachari.
• Gayatri Mata is also called Mother of Vedas.
3. Jagannath Temple
• Built by Raja Budh Prakash in 1681 AD.
• Fair of Sawan Dwadashi in organized here.
4. Shirgul Temple
• Situated on Churdhar.
• Dedicated to Lord Shirgul.
5. Katasan Temple
• Located at Dhaula Kuan.
• Built by king Jagar Singh.
6. Lakshmi Narayan Temple
• Located in Nahan.
• Built by king Bhup Prakash in 1708 AD.
7. Ramkundi Temple
• Located in Nahan.
• Built by king Kirti Prakash in 1767 AD.
8. Devi Sahib Temple
• Located in Paonta.
• Built in 1889 AD by dei Sahiba, sister of king Shamsher Prakash.
9. Shiv Temple
• Located in Rani Tal, Nahan.
• Built by Shamsher Prakash in memory of his Rani Kutlani.

1. Tara Devi Temple
• Built by king Balbir Sen of Keonthal.

3. Marich Havan Kund
• Marich devta at Dholaseri, Kumarsain.
• The havan kund is unique due to its Panchmukha shape.
• It was reopened after 900 years on 22 nd feb. 2005
4. Hatkoli Temple
• Located in Hatkoti of Rohru Tehsil.
• A metal idol of Mahishasuramardini is here.
5. Jakhu Temple
• Dedicated to lord Hanuman.
• A 108 foot high idol of lord Hanuman is built here.
6. Kamna Devi Temple
• Located in Prospect Hill (Baluganj)
7. Kalibari Temple
• This temple is dedicated to kali mata (Shyamala devi)
• Shimla is named after the Goddess Shyamala devi.
8. Surya Temple (Shikhar style)
• Located in Nirath.
• It is also called ‘Sun Temple of HP’
9. Sankatmochan Temple
• Built in 1926 by Baba Neem Karori of Nainital.
• It is Located in Taradevi.

1. Shoolini Temple
• The city of Solan is named after the mother of shoolini.
2. Jatoli Temple
• Jatoli in solan is the tallest temple in HP.

(XI) Temples in Lahaul and Spiti


1. Trilokinath Temple (Avalokiteshvara Temple) A Lamp of pure ghee burned always.
• Located in Udaipur.
• This temple represent Kashmir – Kannouj art which flourished during the period of
Raja Lalitaditya of Kashmir.
• Pauri festival is celebrated in August here.
• It has a Kardar (manager) Thakur and a priest lama.
2. Mrikula Devi
• It is made up of wood.
• Located in Udaipur.
• There is a common belief that this temple was designed by some architect, who
designed (Hidimba Temple) at Manali for Raja Bahadur Singh of Kullu.
• This temple was built by Ajay varman of Chamba.

1. Masheshwara Temple (Pagoda style) : At Sungara.


2. Kamakhya Devi Temple: At Sangla
3. Usha Dev Temple: At Nichar Tehsil.
