The Expanded Program On Immunizations of The Philippines

The Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) was established in 1976 by the Department of Health to ensure infants, children, and mothers have access to routinely recommended vaccines. The EPI provides vaccines to protect against 6 diseases - tuberculosis, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and measles. Its overall goal is to reduce morbidity and mortality in children from vaccine-preventable diseases. Key strategies include routine immunizations through community outreach and supplemental immunization activities. Issues include a need for more trained health workers and improved vaccine storage and distribution.
