ACKNOWLEDGMENT

This Home Church manual was produced to elaborate the expected growth progression
from being a new convert to becoming an active lay minister, which should be the desire
of every Christian.

The content of this booklet is a collection and adaptation of several successful structures
and formats in use by other churches and ministries. We would like to specially
acknowledge Christ Embassy, Daystar Christian Centre and several of our members who
provided bulk of the materials used in this manual.

Thank you and May God bless you all. Amen.

Yours in His Service

CHAPTER ONE

THE CHURCH MINISTRY OPERATION/ POLICIES

THE HOME CHURCH

The Home Church is basically a microcosm of our Mother church. It serves as a platform
for our church to grow smaller and larger at the same time and provide opportunity for
the extension of our ministry across the city while developing and grooming our
members into places of leadership and maturity. A Home Church is not independent of
the Mother church therefore it depends on her for its effective functioning. The programs
and activities of the Home church are based on the guidelines given by the mother
church, Home churches are therefore neither autonomous nor interdenominational and so
should be careful not to address, organize, relate to, or parade them as such.

The Home Church system is the operational base of our Church. Among the many
important functions of the HCS is that it serves as the arms and feet for effective
personalized ministry to the individual within and outside our church. They demonstrate
the practical love of Christ amongst themselves and their community and follow – up
guest and new converts in our church.

New comers to and members of the Home church must be duly encouraged to attend
main services at the mother church. We recognize that this may not be immediately
possible for some people but with careful persuasion and encouragement they eventually
would do it.

We are change agents wherever we are: at work, home, school and in church. However,
The Home Church is the drilled down system within our church structure that provide a
specific opportunity/platform where everyone can develop themselves, exercise their
gifts and bring change to our communities.

The Home Church System is the vehicle for bringing change to our communities.
The concept of the small group or our Home Church system, as we call it, dates back to
the early days of Israel when Moses served as their leader (Ex. 18:13-17, 21-22). Our
Lord Jesus Christ also demonstrated the effectiveness of this principle in increasing
leadership and ministerial efficiency by breaking people into small groups in order to
minister to them (Matt. 13:16; 17:24-25; Mk. 6:39-41). After the exit of Jesus, the
Apostles, practiced the art of “breaking bread from house to house” in order to fulfill the
purposes of the Church (Acts 2:42-47, 12:12). Also references to the Home Church
system are common in the epistles (Rom. 16:3-5; I Cor. 16:19). The system provides

All right reserved 2013 4 C-Cubed Home Church system

opportunities for the presence of God to be brought into members’ homes and the
community.

Objectives of the system

 To provide a structural framework for fulfilling the five purposes of the Church.
 To provide a platform for serving our community and bringing change to our City, one
neighbourhood at a time
 To provide opportunity for personal pastoral care for individual member of the church
through visitation, bible study, and prayers.
 To serve as a dragnet for reaching the un-churched and other prospective members.
 To provide support for members through benevolence and ministry extension
responsibilities/initiatives like ceremonies and dedications.
 For members’ personal development and subsequent integration into core leadership of
the Church through practical measurable service.

Benefits of the system

To Members
 Provides opportunity for development of Change Agents (leaders) in the church (Eph.
4:11-16)
 Preserves the health and usefulness of leaders, so they can last longer (Act 6:4)
 Increased bonding that leads to pronounced caring and sharing amongst brethren (Rom.
12:15).
 Individual member’s gifts are quickly recognized and released for the benefit of the body
(I Cor. 12:7-11).

To the Ministry:
 There will be growth numerically and spiritually.
 People have a sense of belonging and the workload of the ministry is effectively shared.
 There is multiplication of results (Lev. 26:8).
 Broad-based city-wide ministry impact (Acts 5:42).

THE HOME CHURCH STRUCTURE

1. Home Church Organization and Distribution.

As the name implies our HCs are currently structured primarily as
residential/geographical in nature. However, vocational type small groups & other
specialized groups may be considered in the future. This will be determined by
the Pastorate.

2. Home Church Venues.

The place of meeting for every Home church is determined by the structure of the
church itself. In the meanwhile, we advise that all our church meetings hold in a
suitable home. Other decent places such as hotels, conference centers and

All right reserved 2013 5 C-Cubed Home Church system

restaurants will be considered on a case by case basis and as the need arises.
Homes to be used as venues must be inspected and approved by the Home Church
Coordinating Centre to be sure that it meets the very basic requirements

3. Starting a New Church

A new church can be planted by an already existing one or independently as a
pioneer work by one or two Leaders or as an end product of an outreach program,
or any other form of evangelical outreach.

a. Growth driving plant

This type of church planting is very healthy, because it comes from a normal
growth process. Every Home Church has the capacity to grow, and as often as
possible based on its vision and leadership, a new Home church should be planted
as soon as regular attendance reaches 15.

b. Church Formation by Outreach.

A Home Church can also be planted as the end product of an outreach program.
At the end of an outreach meeting, souls won, with a few members can group
together to plant a new church in the neighborhood.

c. Church Formation by Pioneering.

This can occur as a requirement for graduates of the Leadership Academy. Such a
member should of necessity be qualified to be a Home Church pastor (See
qualification of HCP).

4. Growing into a Huddle

A huddle automatically emerges from three (3) existing churches midwifed by a
single mother church: with the original leader becoming the Huddle Coach.

5. Growing into a Zone

A Huddle has a mandate to birth a zone when it has planted six (6) Home
churches. The leader becomes a Network Leader. A zone may at the discretion of
the Pastorate be grouped together to become a Satellite Campus. All appointments
of leaders in the churches must be approved by the pastorate through the HCCC.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to take our city for Christ, one neighbourhood at a time.
We will do this by planting a church on every short street in Calabar so that everyone in
this city will be within a walking distance of our ministry reach (Influence) and through
the system bring chance to the entire city.

OUR STRATEGY

Occupation by saturation

All right reserved 2013 6 C-Cubed Home Church system

The more healthy and vibrant Home Churches we plant, the closer we are to our goal and
the more effective our ministry becomes

CHURCH ACTIVITIES AND MEETINGS

Home churches have liberty, to a considerable extent, to design and plan their own
activities and tweak their meetings to reflect their unique identity but the following
activities are recommended.

Different Kinds of Activities

1. Prayer Chains
2. Outreaches
3. Weekly Meetings:
a. Prayer & planning meeting
b. Bible Study meeting
c. Outreach meeting
d. Fellowship meeting
4. Special dates (member’s birthday etc.) can be used as a form of outreach, to
win souls or In-reach meetings to further strengthen relationship amongst
church members
5. Visitation Meetings

Please note that the details of these meeting are discretionary, as the pastor is led
by the Holy Spirit. However, all meetings must be purposeful (i.e.: church growth
and development or nourishment of the saints).

WEEKLY CHURCH MEETING PATTERNS

Regular & standard meeting will include:

Welcome – Make everyone welcome, use ice breakers, crack jokes and create a
relaxed atmosphere
Worship – A short period of prayer and worship
Word – Study and discussion of the weekend teaching
Works – testimony, giving, eating & prayer Etc.

The meetings are designed for one hour thirty minutes. Efforts should be made to
keep within the time limits.

However, innovations are encouraged. The meeting should never become

monotonous and predictable. Zest and excitement must characterize our meetings
and Pastors must go all out to create an air of expectancy in the minds of members

All right reserved 2013 7 C-Cubed Home Church system

Some of the weekly meetings may involve the use of video materials especially
during our annual spiritual growth campaigns. The video, usually for a length of
15mins, and accompanied by a workbook, teaches on a subject to be discussed at
the meetings
Leading the Meeting

Please note that our primary focus at our meetings is the people and not the
event

Preparation

Adequate preparation must precede every meeting.

- Preparation is worship
- Your preparation honors God and deals with the integrity of your heart
before Him
- It communicates a sense of responsibility and the importance we attach to
our assignment. Remember that what we are doing has eternal relevance
and consequence
- Not prayerfully preparing is presuming on God

Edification

The primary role of the pastor is facilitation and stirring the members to
illumination.

Your depth in study and understanding of the subject will come from the
insightful contribution you make to bring clarity where needed and to draw out
the life application principles.

Our meetings are not bible study meetings, they are fellowships therefore
relationship building is the most critical aspect.

Make room for activities that develops friendship and bonding amongst members

Apart from the regular weekly meeting formats, other kinds of meetings are suggested
from time to time. The aim is to break monotony as well as broaden the scope of our
attention and activities. Some of the other types of meetings include:

PRAYER AND PLANNING MEETING:

This kind of meeting may be very useful in helping the Home church develop
their goals and plans for the quarter and pray towards its accomplishment as a
body. The Home church pastor must lead this kind of meeting. The Pastor must
guide the members to arrive at a common goal(s) for the period and once the
goals are agreed he/she must passionately galvanize the whole church to achieve
them.

All right reserved 2013 8 C-Cubed Home Church system

The number of people in attendance for this meeting can determine the number of
people you have to work with for the period so ensure you have as many as
possible at this meetings.
Outline of Meeting
 Brief exhortation
 Quickly get a consensus on the goals and objectives to be pursued. Please
provide the needed leadership to get this done
 Plan monthly/quarterly Outreach: Define nature of Outreach, ascertain
program contents and assign responsibilities.
 Prayers

Prayer Outline

 Pray for the city and your community

 Pray for our ministry and leadership
 Pray for the vision and goals of your Home church ask for the grace of
God and the leading of the Holy Spirit.
 Pray for your members

N/B: Have them write their points down and prophesy over them. This could increase
expectation.

Points of Note
- Your confidence rubs off on your members
- Talk confidently but yet be very courteous & humble
- Prepare spiritually and otherwise before the meeting. Decide how you will direct
the meeting ahead and what you expect the outcome to be.
- Determine the result of your outreach program at this meeting.
- Give the members responsibility and encourage them, e.g.: the 5 Team leaders
etc.
- Let them pray in the Holy Ghost and call forth resources required
- Write them letters appointing them to various committees (if need be) and give
them the letters at the meeting or during service with their names written on them
- Discuss the various things that need to be done within the month

OUTREACH MEETING

You MUST organize an outreach program at least once in a Quarter.

This program is one of your high points for the period therefore It should be treated,
publicized and prepared for as such both within and outside the church.

It should be the result of the prayer and planning meeting. The pastorate and the
entire church is corporately going out with you for Soul winning, it can be done in a
lot of forms viz: Breakfast Outreach meeting, Dinner Outreach meeting, Musical

All right reserved 2013 9 C-Cubed Home Church system

Outreach, a love feast etc, according to the direction the Holy Spirit. But one most
important thing is that it must be oriented towards Soul winning. You must ensure
that souls are won and the presence of the Holy Ghost is manifest:

 The use of banners around the church premises and outreach venue is
encouraged.
 It should be included in the announcement and corporately prayed about.
 At least one day before the outreach program should be set aside for a fasting
and prayer Rally and in the evening the fast will be broken with prayers and
breaking of bread i.e. communion.
 The HCCC should be carried along to ensure full support and the planning
details shared especially to establish anticipated attendance and enhancement
of content where needed.
 Be reminded that the primary aim of the program to impact your catchment
area.

TARGET/PROCEDURE

 Minimum number of first timers is 10, irrespective of your size.

 The theme for the outreach program
 This is an opportunity to put to work the Anointing you have received.
 Ask for the sick, the blind, the lame etc.
 Lay your hands on your contact sheets.
 Provide alternative power supply, No candles.
 Make sure the venue is assessable and decent. Serve the neighborhood as a
way of lowering the barrier of prospects. Create a sense of occasion and
organization. It is the Minister’s responsibility to create the atmosphere for
the Holy Ghost.
 Hang banners in your church, your catchment’s area and your venue.
 Your ushers should be well dressed
 Seek help from units in church that you may need

- As the Church Pastor: be decently dressed. Be brief and straight to the point.
Avoid unnecessary showmanship and grandstanding.

- Call for the sick: You must call for the sick, do not be afraid for it is not by
might, not by power, but by my spirit, says the lord. If they bring someone who’s
blind or deaf, it’s the same spirit. You have the anointing to make a blind man
see; it’s the same anointing upon the Lead Pastor.
- Bless your members after the program.
- Bless your community.

Finally, please note that Home Churches can come together to organize outreaches

A HOME CHURCH AS A MISSIONARY OUTPOST

Jesus said, “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples if you have love, one to
another”. In other words, our actions will always speak louder than our words. A Home
Church must operate as a missionary outpost of C-cubed. In warm fellowship and
care for one another they must commit themselves to reaching others in their
community with the love of Christ. They must constantly be on the lookout for
prospective converts, pray for them, meet them at the point of their needs and invite them
to their church meetings.

All the members must regard the church, as a missionary squad or unit. It
automatically has become God’s house or operating headquarters in that place. The
Home church must have an outreach mentality. It should design its meetings, and
programs with an evangelistic flavor. Our message and testimonies should lead new
converts to Christ. Members of the church must be encouraged to look around for
potential converts that would be invited to the meeting.

The first step would be to develop a relationship (Friendship evangelism) between that
prospective convert and the members or a member of the church. This doesn’t need to
take a very long time. It just needs sufficient communication to warrant the expectation to
honor an invitation or to open a good discussion on any good subject without an
argument. The next step would be to bring this person to the church group. During the
meeting as the new comer witness love among the members, hears the testimonies, the
message, and observes commitment of the members in prayers, the power of the lord will
come upon his heart. It is obvious that he will commit himself to the Lord and receive
eternal life.

After this meeting he must not be left to himself. The leader should personally introduced
to him or her, and then ask him how he felt about the meeting. Does he/she have any
question? Then encourage him to come to the next meeting. He should then be introduced
to the rest of the members as a new member. It is important to say here that he may still
need to be brought to this next meeting by one of the members. This will let him know
that his coming really matters to others. During this meeting he must be made very
comfortable. He should feel free to participate like everyone else. After the meeting the
leader or assistant should ask him, if he had any personal problem needing prayers. If he
does, then he or she should pray with him there, expecting answers. In this way he would
feel really cared for.

FELLOWSHIP MEETINGS

This meeting can be patterned in a lot of ways. It could be a picnic. You can decide to
have a combined event as a Section or even the entire Zone, making the family
bigger. It helps to get the members of the Section or Zone acquainted with one
another. It can also be a small forum of ‘Get Acquainted Special’ for the people who
were added to the church for that month. Whatever the format the meeting must have

All right reserved 2013 11 C-Cubed Home Church system

a definite purpose. It is also a time of sharing testimonies and being edified by other
members.
This is a bonding meeting and should be very relaxed and less ‘churchy’

TARGET/PROCEDURE (Free style is allowed)

(1) Talk about Partnership

(2) A committed partner should speak for 5 minutes.
(3) Award should be given in the church.
(a) Soul winner Award (Highest soul won)
(b) Most committed new member within the church:
 Number of meetings attended.
 Level attained in CLASS.
 Number of souls won.
 Response to instructions and directions.
(4) Take testimonies of commitment on how people got committed to the church.
(5) Should serve refreshment.

Important Notes

 Please note that all church leaders should ensure that they participation in the
monthly Church Leadership program (Regroup) and others such as Church
Leaders’ Refresher Course and Advance Leadership Training Conference).
These Programs are designed to acquaint the Church Leaders with our
doctrines and train them in leadership.

 Once a Church Leader is not always a Church Leader. Attendance at this vital
meetings count if you want to retain your position and grow

RECORD KEEPING AND FEEDBACK

Record Keeping
Record keeping entails the storage of vital information at one’s disposal for
reference purpose. Information is obtained from human memory, taken from
printed matter or electronic devices. Information stored or preserved is used for
the benefit of all, now and in the future.

In church, record keeping by Church leaders is very vital. It depicts good

organization, purposefulness and foresightedness. It goes to mean therefore that
the Home Church Pastors should have records of their dealings with the God’s
flock under their charge for the Coordinating offices, and other organs of the
church. Records such as membership list, activities, programs, follow-up,
financial dealings, goals and objectives, correspondence, memos and the likes are
to be kept for use. Record keeping helps to maintain good contact with the various

All right reserved 2013 12 C-Cubed Home Church system

organs of the church and this ensures progressive advancement in the scheme of
things. It helps to monitor the effectiveness of the entire system and those
involved.

Every Home Church should have a Secretary who compiles and record vital
information for the Church. They should complete report forms and turn them in
on-time and regularly, at the prompting of the church pastor, update HCCC at all
times of developments within the church.

Monitoring through the Feedback System

Please ensure that your report forms are properly filled and sent to the
coordinating offices. With a good feedback system, the coordinating offices can
properly monitor the churches and thus be able to give practical advice based on
adequate information received from you.

HOME CHURCH POLICIES

 The Church is established primarily to facilitate meaningful fellowship,

need oriented evangelism, follow up and community impact.
 The Home Church Coordinating Centre (HCCC) is an executive arm of
the Pastorate under the Ministry Team, to implement the directives of the
Pastorate within the HC Ministry of the Church.
 All members of C-Cubed are expected to belong to a Home Church

 Church planting is a strategic Biblical system for growing the kingdom
and impacting lives.
 A church plant is due when a Home Church attains a regular attendance of
fifteen (15) people over a period of one month.

CHAPTER TWO

LEADERSHIP COMMUNITY

The leadership community is the place for active small group leaders to gain personal
support, expand their vision, develop ministry skills, and intern new apprentices into
active leadership.

Leadership Community: A congregational unit of leadership from all

ministry activities that involves small groups of
people.
We have decentralized the pastoral care of our
church and delegated pastoring responsibilities to
the various small group leaders but we stay
connected and cohesive through regular exchanges
within the leadership community.

Leaders: In our church you join this community if you are a

Unit head, Assistant HCP, HCP, Huddle Coach,
Network Leader, and Team Pastor.
All Unit Heads, in addition to being active in the
Home Church must meet weekly with their
members to be considered as members of the
community.

Personal Support: This is the time for the shepherds of the church to
become sheep and be cared for.

Expand Vision: A place to express our core values, paint the big
picture, and plan for future growth in ministry.

Develop Skill: Time is set aside to train and prepare people to use
their leadership gifts for effective service

Intern Apprentices: A place to bring newly identified apprentices, in

line with the Ethos of our church, into entry-level
leadership to mature them in the use of their
giftedness.

All right reserved 2013 14 C-Cubed Home Church system

REGROUP Meetings: The leadership community meets monthly for
breakfast, worship, prayer, direction and support for
personal growth.

THE QUALITIES OF A CHURCH LEADER

A leader is one who shows the way; one who guides and directs. Leadership is the
process of guiding, directing and commanding others to achieve a desire goal or vision.
In your church, you are leading, guiding and directing people to accomplish certain
things. The ability with which you do that, decides how far our church will go. Your
ability as a leader determines what you can produce and accomplish. We need to
recognize that leadership is the key to fulfilling visions and produce results.

A leader is one who knows where he is going and carries others along with him.
They are people with vision who get involved with fulfilling the vision. Leaders are
consumed with getting things done and accomplishing their goals.

Leadership is developed not discovered. It is not something that leaders have but
something they become. Leadership is a process. An understanding of leadership builds
on these five fundamental ideas.
1. Leadership moves the group towards its goal.
2. Leadership builds on meaningful relationships with others
3. Leadership motivates the group members to achievement
4. Actions or attitude that obstructs the objectives of the group do not constitute
Leadership.
5. Leadership is influence. It is more than holding an office.

A Leader is:

 Bold. He is not afraid of making mistakes. He uses his mistakes to make proper
adjustments and continue on towards the vision and the fulfillment the goal.
He is not afraid of bearing responsibilities. He takes deliberate steps with others to
achieve his goals. A good leader sees work as a means of achieving specific
goals.
 He is a through organizer and a keeper of meticulous records.
 He is committed to the vision. Another word we could use here is ‘persistence’. A
leader endures, sticks to it and would not quit. Leaders deal with problems rather
than giving up on them. With a good leader, there is no such thing as failure –
there might be mistakes and setbacks but never failure.
 There is no way that this can stop because he is committed, he is going for it
and he is not going to quit. This is his mentality.
 A leader enjoys his work. He is not ‘suffering through’. He is not doing what he
has to do, but what he wants to do. A leader enjoys and actually has fun doing
what he does.

All right reserved 2013 15 C-Cubed Home Church system

 Leaders are motivators. They motivate others to get involved with the business.
Leaders attract others. They believe deeply in the possibility of progress. They
never see anything as impossible. They know that they have the capacity to
achieve their goals. So as a leader, expect great things for yourself; your potential
for leadership is much greater than you imagine. Expect great things from your
church members because they have unlimited capacity. Expect great things from
God. He will honour every effort done in His name. In the work of the church, we
need to expect accomplishments.
 Leaders are producers. They get results. They do not have excuses because they
do not allow anything to stop them. A leader is a man of action and one always
ready for the top.

THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A CHURCH LEADER

Every Home Church pastor, Huddle Coach and Network Leader has a role to play in the
achievement of the vision of the church. Our main goal is changed lives. Therefore
everyone in leadership capacity is responsible for the achievement of this goal. As a
leader, you are responsible for the growth of your church, its expansion and the
development of your members. Their absence from a meeting should affect you.

You must have great concern for your church and members. The Apostle Paul had great
concern for the Israelites. In Romans 9:1-3 he said, “I say the truth in Christ, I lie not,
my conscience also bearing witness in the Holy Ghost, that I have great heaviness and
continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for
my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh.” He said he wished he could be accursed
from Christ for the sake of his brethren. He had genuine love for them. He wanted to see
them grow unto maturity. He did not deny his responsibilities. He knew that the spiritual
growth and development of the brethren depended on him. He was addicted to them. This
is the kind of attitude we should have for our church and brethren. Your responsibly is
more than holding church meetings every week or organizing programmes. Those are just
strategies in accomplishing the goal.

Follow up is vital part of the church system. It involves the conservation, the
maturing and the multiplication of the fruit of evangelism. Colossians 1:28 must ever
be two-fold commission:’ we proclaim him, admonishing (that is evangelism) and
teaching everyone with all wisdom (follow up) so that we may present every one perfect
in Christ. The early Christians were not only concerned with the winning of the lost, but
also with their establishment in the faith, attachment to local fellowships (i.e. Church
systems) and spiritual growth.

We follow up a new convert in order that God may be gloried, as Christ is being formed
in him, uniting him in the local body of believers and eventually reaching out to others
through him. Our aim in follow up should always be not merely to win lives to
Christ, but also to train them into those who will go out and win others. We believe
of course that those whom God saves, God is well able to keep (Jude 24) yet we see in
the book if Acts how the Apostle Paul nevertheless showed deep concern for those who

All right reserved 2013 16 C-Cubed Home Church system

had come to Christ through his ministry, and felt personal responsibility for them. Your
responsibilities should include visiting both the new and the old members.
Everybody on earth needs attention. They want to be recognized, they want to be
loved. Some people may never have had somebody come to spend sometime with them
in their homes.

THE COMMITMENT OF A CHURCH LEADER

Anyone who successfully joins our leadership community is one who has made the
transition from “Come & See” to “Come & Follow Me” to “COME & DIE”.

We demand an unwavering commitment to the fulfillment of God call and vision for our
church. We’ll not hesitate to drop anyone we consider a log in the wheel of progress.

Having a responsibility, and being committed to that responsibility, are two different
things. You could have a responsibility without being committed to it. The word
‘commitment’ means to entrust, to put into charge or trust. Your commitment to your
responsibility is very vital. Commitment is from the heart. You have to decide to be
committed to your responsibility. The Apostle Paul made a statement in 1Timothy 1:11.
He said, “According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to
my trust.” He recognized that the gospel was committed to him and he took the
responsibilities upon himself.

Become more committed to your church members, to the work you are involved with.
Get in touch with what is really happening to your members. Be informed. Proverbs
27:23 says, “be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds”.

How much time do you really spend talking with your members? You don’t necessarily
have to sit down in a counseling appointment. Get interested in them, find out what’s
happening to them, how they are doing in their jobs and in their families. Find out what
their needs are and help them to meet them because, by this shall men know that we are
the Lord’s disciples if we have love one another (John 13:35).

APPRENTICESHIP

Following the ethos of our church, apprenticeship is an essential process in our

discipleship development model. Every leader in the leadership community must have at
least one apprentice under him/her at any given time.
