SSC102 Community Development Project: Name - Prem Kumar Reg. No. - 12213432 BA Sociology (Hons.)

This document summarizes a community development project conducted by Prem Kumar involving an annual survey of education in India called ASER. The objectives of the project were to conduct an objective survey collecting information on education facilities and resources available to support learning. Steps taken included training, meeting village representatives, mapping the area and surveying every 5th household to assess reading and math skills of children aged 5 to 16. The project found most students lacked communication skills and math proficiency, though 90% were proficient in their native language and could read English. In conclusion, ASER provides useful reporting on the state of children's education in particular areas.

Community Development Project

Name - PREM KUMAR
Reg. No. - 12213432
BA Sociology (Hons.)
CONTEXT -
• Introduction
• Problem Identification
• Objective to be achieved
• Steps Taken to Achieve the Objective
• Effectiveness of the Project
• Conclusion
Introduction -
• Annual status of education report is referred to as ASER. This is an
annual survey that seeks to offer accurate projections of child
enrolment and levels of fundamental education for each district and
state in India.
• Since 2005, ASER has been done annually in all of India’s rural
districts. It is India's biggest citizen-led survey.
• It is now the only annual source of data on children's learning
outcomes in India.
• It is a household based survey rather than a school based one.
Problem Identification -

• Improper Outreach of Funds by the Government

• Improper Utilization of Funds

• Less Quality Education

• Lack of Amenities in Schools

Objectives To Be Achieved -
1. To make a proper report of the survey with objectivity.

2. To collect the proper information of education and facilities that are provided to school.

3. To interact with the villagers with meekness and collect the information.

4. To evaluate management and engagement of children with the learning materials being
provided to them.

5. To report on the resources available to the parents to support the children’s learning at
home.
Steps To Achieve Objective -
Prior to beginning the survey, we all are trained on processes and material
(Survey pack, Booklet, etc.) during the district level training workshop.

We met the Sarpanch or village representative to explain the proper of ASER

and take permission to survey the village.

After mapping the village into sections and hamlets, we have used "5th
Household Rule" to continue our survey.

We have used the ASER testing tools to assess basic reading and arithmetic
skills of all children from 5 to 16years who are resident in the household.
EFFECTIVENESS -

• Being a part of this project, we discovered that it was conscious of student

outcomes and educational system advancement.

• We have found that most students lack communication skills and pay little
attention to math's. 90% of the pupils who participated in the survey were
found to be proficient in their mother tongue, and the majority of them
could read and comprehend official English.
Learning Outcomes -
After all the activities that we had done and
experienced from the survey, from that I
can easily say that ASER is a good
Conclusion - environment for enlightening the report of
education of children in a particular area.
