PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

ACTIVITY SHEETS

Student’s Name:________________________________________ Strand/Section:_______________________

TOPIC: Persons and Careers

Objectives:
1. Understand the basic concepts and perspectives in career development
2. Explain that through understanding of the concepts of career and life goals can help in planning
his/her career.

*CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND LIFE GOALS AMONG ADOLESCENTS

 Career Development – is the lifelong process of managing learning, works, leisure, and transitions in order to
move toward a personally determined and evolving preferred future.
- It begins with an individual’s earliest awareness of the ways in which people make a living. It spans
his or her entire life.
 Life Goal-setting
- Life goals are a purpose or main objective and the reason you do all that da-to-day stuff.
- Goals give adolescents a clear starting point, and when completed, can either be a finishing point or
the starting point for their next endeavor.
- Life goal setting – is a fundamental building block that adolescents need to be successful at
whatever they want to accomplish in life.

In order to give a broad, balanced coverage of all important areas in your life. Try to set goals in some of the
following categories.

1. Career – the level of what you want to reach in your career, or what you want to achieve.
2. Financial – the amount and stage of what you want to earn; the relation of your earnings and your
career goals
3. Education – any knowledge you want to acquire in particular; the information and skills will you need to
have in order to achieve other goals.
4. Family – your desire to be a good parent; your desire to be seen as some goods by a partner or by
members of your extended family.
5. Artistic – your desire to achieve any artistic goals.
6. Attitude – any part of your mindset holding you back; any part of the way that you behave that upsets
you.
7. Physical – any athletic goals that you want to achieve, or you want good health deep into old age; steps
you are going to take to achieve for.
8. Pleasure – your desire to enjoy yourself.
9. Public service – your desire to make the world a better place and how to achieve it.

The following broad guidelines will help you to set effective, achievable goals:

1. State each goals as a positive statement – express your goals optimistically.

2. Be precise – Set precise goals, putting in dates, times and amounts so that you can measure
achievement.
3. Set priorities – when you have several goals, give each a priority.
4. Write down your goals – this crystallizes them and gives them more force.
5. Keep operational goals small – keep the low-level goals that you’re working towards small and
achievable.
6. Set performance goals, not outcome goals – you should take care to set goals over which you have
as much control as possible.
7. Set realistic goals – it’s important to set goals that you can achieve.
 Personal mission statement according to Stephen R. Covey enables a person to connect “with (his) own unique
purpose and the profound satisfaction that comes from fulfilling it
(https://www.livecareer.com/quintessential/creating-personal-mission-statements).
-This statement provides an individual with a clear direction of where he wants to go and what he wants to
achieve. As learners are about to embark on their career in any of the four curriculum exits, such statement will
allow them to focus on the path they will follow with conviction in the face of any challenging circumstances.

-For a personal mission statement to become fulfilling, it has to make a difference in other people’s lives or
organization. This means a person will seek his purpose not only for himself but how he can contribute best to
the world in general, his family, his prospective employer, his friends, and to the community
