Welcome to the Arts 9 Project CAP-LRE Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on
Arts of the Renaissance and Baroque Periods
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both
from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners
meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and
economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and
circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of the
module:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You
also need to keep track of the learners’ progress while allowing them to manage their own
learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and the learners as they do the tasks

Arts of the Renaissance and Baroque Periods
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for

On this tour we will examine and explore the world of Renaissance and Baroque
Art Period. Let’s go!
The word ‘renaissance’ derived from the French word renaitre, which means ‘rebirth’,
signifying how Europe came out of the dark ages, reawakening in art, culture, science,
technology, and music. It was an incredible time of beauty, blossoming with creativity and
curiosity. The Renaissance era also witnessed the discovery and exploration of new continents,
the growth of commerce, and the inventions of innovations such as paper, printing, the mariner’s
compass and gunpowder. In short, it was the period of economic progress.
Renaissance art was characterized by accurate anatomy, scientific, perspective and
deeper landscape. Renaissance paintings depicted real-life figures and their sculptures were
naturalistic portraits of human beings. Architectures during this era was characterized by its
symmetry and balance.

RENAISSANCE ARCHITECTURE
- People widely built civil buildings, villas, and religious buildings using Renaissance
Architecture.
- The plan type is centrally planned, regular, symmetrical and mostly square.
- Geometry and balance can be seen on the buildings.
- Buildings are reasonable and decorated with columns, pilasters, arches, domes.
- Renaissance Architecture is the re-development of Ancient Greece and Roman

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606-1669)
- A Dutch draughtsman, painter and printmaker and considered one of the greatest visual
artists in Dutch art history. He was well-known on painting himself as often as he did for no
not even one artist could do during his time.

BAROQUE ARCHITECTURE
- Baroque architecture is found in palaces, churches, and wealthy people’s houses.
- The plan types are elliptical, oval, and complicated.
- People got inspiration from nature when creating some forms.
- People used curved and twisted forms, distorted wavy walls and sense of motion.
- The buildings were massive, bold, dramatic, dynamic, striking, extra ornamented.
- These four churches, the first of which was built by the Spanish in the late 16th century,
are located in Manila, Santa Maria, Paoay and Miag-ao.
