9. Sulphuric acid is a common mineral acid found in the laboratory. It is commonly known for its oxidizing
and dehydrating nature. In aqueous solution, sulphuric acid ionizes according to the following equations:

H2SO4(aq) ⇌ H+(aq) + HSO4-(aq) … (rnx. 1)

HSO4-(aq) ⇌ H+(aq) + SO42-(aq) … (rnx. 2)

As the Kc of rnx. 1 is large, rnx. 1 can be regarded as an irreversible reaction (rnx. 3):

H2SO4(aq) → H+(aq) + HSO4-(aq) … (rnx. 3)

The Kc for rnx. 2 is 1.2 × 10-2 mol dm-3 at room conditions.
