Read Me Before You Start
This pattern is worked in the round and using US terminology, not UK.
The single crochet stitch that is used is the yarn under, yarn under method. This
makes the stitches tignter and the project smalier. You can use standard single
crochet yarn over, yam over stitch which will give you a bigger stitch. You may have
to adjust the felt sizes slightiy.
On page 20, there are templates you can use to cut out your felt pieces.
Stitch markers are helpful to mark the end of your round.
Mc# indicates the amount of stitches 10 place in your magic circle. Ex: Mc 6 is a
magic circle with 6 stitches in it.
Ri - Indicates round number. Ex. R3 means round 3
When instructions are followed by a number, you repeat the instruction the number
indicated after the “x”. Ex: (Sc, Inc) x2 means Sc, Inc, Sc, Inc.
At the end of each round [#] indicates the amount of stitches you should have at
the end of your round.
Colour changes count as a stitch. To colour change, insert your hook under both
loops, yarn over and pull through, using the new colour, lay your yarn over your hook
and pull through both loops on the hook,
When colour changing, work the yarn tails through your work so the tails are secured
in the piece. If you are colour changing again with that colourin the round, work the
that colour through the stitches so you bring it along with you in the round.
This pattern uses ONLY invisible decreases. Make sure you do not decrease as a
single crochet two together, as it will create gaps in your work!
Be VERY careful when using the flat iron for the hair. Acrylic yarn can melt, so use the
iron at a VERY LOW temperature.a

Finish stuffing the piece and leave a

Medium Tail (Make 2)
Follow the same instructions for the
Large Tail, except omly Sc from rows
3-38. Skip round 39-43 and continue
again at round 44 to the end. You will
end up with a slightly shorter tail.
Small Tail (Make 2)
Follow the same instructions for the
Large Tail, except only Sc from rows
3-33. Skip rounds 34-43 and continue
again at round 44. You will end up with
an even shorter tail.
After crocheting alll of the tails, roll down each of the tails making sure they are still
three different descending sizes. Make sure the small tails match, the medium tails
match and the large tails match. Sew the tail curl in the same way as the hair making
sure to knot the yam tail securely to keep the shape of the cur.Assembly
Cut out all the felt pieces. Templates can be found on Page 20. Start by sewing in the
layers of felt as shown below, using sewing pins to keep the small pieces in place.
Next, sew the body felt in, take your time around the front legs and bend the legs as
needed to sew around.
&co és
Attach the hind legs to the body by sewing around the perimeter of the hind legs,
keeping the leg flat against the body. It is helpful to use the tails to measure how far
apart the legs need to be in the back to accomodate the tails.
ASAssembly Continued
The body should look a little bit like this.
Place the body aside for now and start
working on the head.
Try and position all the pieces on the
head to see approximately where
everything will go. It is helpful to find the
middle increase stitch that was made in
Round 11 of the head to find where the
middle is.
Take off the ears and begin sewing in
the hair pieces with each of the yam
tails. Stagger the pieces to have the
middle piece further up than the outer
ones.Assembly Continued
Sew in the ear felt to the crocheted ears.
Make sure you mirror them as shown so
that the lighter brown coloured felt will be
towards the center of the head.
Next, sew in each stitch of the ear to the
head. mcke sure you are sewing all the
way around the ear, not sewing the back \
and front of the ear together. \

Lastly, sew in the eyes and the nose.Ss Al
Attach the tails between the legs on the back. Make sure the longest tails are in the
middle and the shorter tails are on the outside. This will make it look fanned out. It is
helpful to position them and pin them to see what it looks like before sewing in.
Assembly Continued
After the bottom of the tail is sewn in,
sew up about half of the length of the
tail. This will Keep the tail upright.
Continue to sew down each tail from
the middle to the outsides.
Next, sew the head to the body using
the yarn tail from the body. Make sure
that it is pinned into place. The head
tends to turn as it is sewn to the body.
Stuff a little extra to support the neck
before closing up the piece.
&Hair Fringe
The fringe is made by individually cutting various sizes of cinnabar yarn about 6-8 in
(15-20em) in length. Brush this out using a wire brush. Keep in mind, there will be a lot
of fiber coming off of the pieces. These heaps of fiber can be balled up ond placed
underneath the hair to give it more volume. Continue to cut and brush yam until you
have about 30 or so pieces. You may need to cut more later.
After brushing out a bunch of pieces, use an old flat iron on a very low setting to
straighten the fibers. This will make it look silky and glossy. BE VERY CAREFUL not fo
bum yourself while doing this.
AW
Using a felting needle, felt in each
individual piece. Start at the hair rolls. zs €
When there is a decent amout felted
across the base. Then take the balled
up fibers and felt it to the top of the
head undemeath the fringe. This will
add a little extra volume to the hair.
Continue to felt in all of the pieces until
you are happy with the shape, going
back and cutting more yarn as needed.Fringe Continued
Use the wire brush to brush out the fringe and then trim it into a “V" shape. Continue
to brush out and trim the hair until you are happy with the look of it. Lastly, use the
felting needle to secure the fringe into place and brush it one last time.
