In what has been @ very difficut year for everyone, |am very proud that, wth the hard work and the creativity of avery talented team, TOFT managed to avigate its way through the challenges, ‘we adapted, we improvised and as a result came some of our most creative and successful products in our history! Over the ast 12 months many aspects of long-scheduled product development plans had to be put on ice while others had to fly from idea, off my hook and out on sale ‘within a matter of days. The pandemic has of course been a dificult time, especially for ‘those who have lst loved ones, but with it has also come some smaller siver linings that it's good to reflect on. 34 | wwww.crochetnow.co.uk JOURNAL We're excited fo welcome in a new year, but take a moment to look back on 2020 with Kerry to reflect on the silver linings we can find in what's been a difficult year for us all www.toftuk.com ‘The first is that, for many of already crochet, we all ad abit ‘more crochet time and |am very thankful to have had an established mindful craft that | enjoy to tum toin times of so ‘much worry. ‘Staying in’ being the ‘new ‘going out’ meant that lots of shad more time on evenings and gained back time formally last on travel and commutes. Although social distancing has been very ificult fr those unable to see family members, or meet up no with established crafting groups or friends who share the same hobby, with that has ‘come a real surge in the use and support corning from social networking graups to go some way to replacing that. Many of us have turned towards Facebook and Instagram to be able to keep in touch with others who are enjoying crocheting and knitting in lockdown, sharing our progress on projects, asking for technical help from the crochet community and enjoying taking part more actively in Conine conversation. Both ofthese things Kerry's Journal in combination have caused the crochet community to grow during tis year, and at ‘TOFT we have welcomed thousands of people to their new hobby and helped them make their first few stitches. Intestin kiting and crochetis higher than thas been fora decade again and hopefully this something that wil be caried wel into next year. TOFT as Nad to adept cuicky to get better at this new way of working, Unable to teach workshops here at HQ face-to-face or to attend any national events to promote crochet, we have instead moved to spending more time investng in our algal teaching ids and social communication suchas nstagram lves which now run every other Friday at 10am, ‘The pandemic has also a big impact on my creative process, because athough found myself with more tme on myhands to crochet, ue ofl spinning mil closures during the fist lockdown thave been without my sual 24 colour palette to play with, Athough we have managed to just about keep all our colours in stock this has only been through very careful planning of product designs to ensure we have the suply ri : match the demand so no-one is dlsapponted DWARD’S MENAGERIE that what they put on ther Citas Iss re ro longer availabe. Supply ssues have meant that many of our packaging plans have had tobe adapted quel, and sof our 2000 projects have been thrown into 2021 so kis going to make for a realy excitng year Some of my favourite TOFT moments of ast year include the Easter #edsPascal crochet along with dally videos to keep us al going, {and the publication of my new mini books Ocean and Wild. | am very grateful that all my ‘new books stil ht their publication deadlines, despite everything this year, and know that You wil ove the ather two tes inthe series ‘to be released early 2021 ~ Farm and Pets. Looking forward into the rest of 2021, our homegrown alpaca yarn made exclusively from the alpacas here at HQ are back from ‘the mill and due for release soon. We have lots of plans and remain very flexible and ‘open-minded about what the next 12 months ‘ill look tke. Whether or not welll have the chance to meet you all again soon at shows and events or not, know that we'll make sure ‘you can stil stay in touch with TOFT as much as before with more glimpses behind the scenes and lots of new video content to make sure we're always there if you need a helping hand! with your latest project. www.crochetnow.co.uk | 35 JOIN Crochet TODAY!
