English In your examination, you will…


Language
Read one passage and answer questions to show your critical reading skills.
You will use intensive and extensive reading skills to identify meaning, make
inferences, analyse and evaluate. You will also summarise key information.

To prepare, review your previous critical reading assignment and test.

For honing active reading skills, read a variety of texts - newspapers,


magazines, online articles, journals, etc and annotate using sticky notes and
highlighters for key points.

Practise summary writing through reviewing teacher feedback and using


workbook exercises.

2. Write one narrative, descriptive, or expository essay to demonstrate your


writing skills.

a. To prepare, review the essays you have written this year. Reread your
notes on coursework.

b. For extra practice, rewrite one of your existing essays, or write a


narrative about an unexpected guest; description of an event that you wish
you had not attended, or an expository essay on why you admire a certain
personality.

3. Rewrite informally written sentences using formal English.

To prepare, review the language of cooperation in your class notes and MUN
handbook, and your teacher’s feedback on the Expression and Style portion of
your essays as well as use of formal and informal expressions.

Note: This is an examination of your reading and writing skills.
