PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT AND ETHICAL STANDARDS

Course Code, Title & Details CRI 164- Professional Conduct and Ethical Standards – (3 Unit = 54 class recitation hours)

Apply the code of conduct for researchers in the preparation of criminological research and related outputs on crimes, crime
causation victims and offenders to include deviant behavior and demonstrate ethical knowledge in conducting research
At the end of the Course related to crime causation;
students shall be able to reach
the Demonstrate the relevance of professional conduct and ethical standards in view of human rights and victim welfare; and,
PQF Level 5 Descriptors Relate the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics, Criminologists’ Code of Ethics and other ethical conventions to law
enforcement administration, public safety and criminal justice.

Apply the code of conduct in the field of criminalistics or forensic science in the investigation and detection of crime;
At the end of the Program
students shall be able to reach Demonstrate knowledge of the Code of Ethics for Witnesses and Law Enforcers in a court room set- up; and,
the
PQF Level 6 Descriptors Implement professional conduct and ethical standards in dealing with criminal offenders in a correctional set- up in view of
their welfare, development and re-integration.

1. Conduct criminological research on crimes, crime causation, victims, and offenders to include deviant behavior;

2. Internalized the concepts of human rights and victim welfare;

4. Utilized criminalistics or forensic science in the investigation and detection of crime;

5. Apply the principles and jurisprudence of criminal law, evidence and criminal procedure; and,

6. Ensure offenders’ welfare and development for their re-integration to the community

Course Description:

This course deals with the professional conduct and ethical standards expected among criminologists in view of the conduct of criminological research, law
enforcement work, public safety, forensic science, criminalistics, and crime investigation. It also includes in the professional conduct and ethical standards for court
witnesses and correctional officers in dealing with offenders in view of their welfare, development and re-integration as well as the salient provisions of RA 11131
and the Criminologists’ Code of Ethics.

Course Objectives:

1. Be able to appreciate the importance of the PNP Code of Professional Conduct and Ethical Standards, Criminologists Code of Ethics fostering police community
relations gearing towards the success of every law enforcement operations;
2. Evaluate similarities and differences of the old with present PNP concerning the core of values and virtues;
3. Analyze the concepts of the law enforcement code of ethics and its practice or application with the contemporary days;
4. Identify the inefficiency and incompetence of the PNP and to restructure it into a more responsive type or organization depicting relevant provisions of RA
11131; and,
5. Analyze and upgrade the capabilities of the PNP through the value of the law enforcement code of ethics, the professional conducts, ethical standards, and the
ways of police community relations including victim’s welfare and human rights.
