Statement of Contribution to Case 3

Submitted by: Llona, Arjay R.

Year and Section: ChE 3C
______________________________________________________________________________
 In no less than 600 words (total), what were your specific contributions to the project,
how did your contribution complement the contribution of your peers? And how did your
peers contribute to the project/case?
As decided and agreed by our group, our team leader assigned us with task to be done as a group
as well as task to be done individually:
Tasks for Everyone:
 Sharing and discussion of ideas or brainstorming – every one of us shared their ideas and
thoughts on how we will clearly present our ideas to the audience. We also generated
ideas from each member to summarize important concepts in the case project.
 Briefing of case facts – every member in our group was assigned of a subtopic/subtopics
to make a concise and clear case facts regarding the article. Each member was advised to
use less words as possible as long as the main idea of the article is captured in the case
fact.
 Compilation and organizing ideas – before making a slide presentation for the case
project, our group compiled first all ideas generated and organized it to make it simple,
clear and concise. This gave us an easier time of inputting the content of our project in
the slide and deciding the flow of presentation
 Power point slide creation – our group created and edited the slides through a Canva link
so that everyone is free to help and edit their content. It also saved us time in editing the
slide presentation. Another benefit of using Canva as our editing tool for slide
presentation is that we are free to design our slide with ease and make few adjustment if
we want to. The visual design of our slide presentation is also very catchy for the
audiences.
 Case question - our group also did some brainstorming to discuss ideas and concepts we
had in our assigned case facts. This helped us answer case questions without too much
difficulty. Anyone can volunteer to answer the case questions by gathering ideas from the
brainstorming and group discussion.
My specific contributions are as follows:
 Case facts - I was assigned to do the case facts for the subtopics entitled “New Source of
Inspiration” and “New Products and Programmes”. As advised by Sir Raymond Barajas,
I tried not to put too much word in the case facts. I only included necessary points and
paraphrased some statements to make it brief. I only captured the main idea to make it
less wordy as possible.
 Case questions 3 & 5 - I also volunteered to answer the case questions for 3 and 5. To
answer the question, I used our case facts as a source to come up with an idea that fits
what the question requires. I also took Sir Raymond's advice to used visual charts to
present our answers for case question. I think it was really effective to use flowchart or
diagrams in presenting your idea because it made your answer brief and clear. Instead of

reading plain paragraph which is really time consuming and makes the reader lose
interest, with visual outputs it saves time and captures your reader's attention.
The following are the specific contributions of my peers in our case project:

 Case Facts- “Inception of Interface’s Sustainable Goals” and “Mission Zero”
 Case question 1-added additional, and detailed answer gathering ideas from the first
answer. This means providing statistics, steps and summarizing other journal articles that
may help strengthen the claims. Finalized the answers and steps.
 Editing visuals for the presentation (Fixing some answers that are too wordy, putting it in
a flow chart)
 Contribute to finalizing and organizing the case facts to be inputted into the presentation.
Tagum, Gaile
 Formulation of the case facts of: Introduction and Carpet Tile Industry in 2018

How did my contributions complement the contribution of my peers?

 My contribution in the project complemented the work made by my peers in a way that
we were able to use our case facts assigned to every one of us to have a general idea of
the case topic and to answer case questions. Instead of reading the lengthy article, we
were able to save time in understanding the topic by reading the summarized thought of
the whole article in our case facts. Also my contribution gave them an idea how they can
make their case facts concise and clear. My answers in case question 3 and 5 also helped
them in devising a way to present their answers using visual outputs. In General, with this
manner of presenting ideas clearly it made inputting of contents in the slide presentation a
lot easier.

 In no less than 500 words, what are your key learnings from the case?
As far as my learnings is concerned, I learned that every one of us has role in protecting and
conserving our environment. Just like Interface, although it is a business company competing in
a global market industry it still took the challenge of achieving sustainability and preservation of
environment. We as residents of this planet it is natural for us to take on the responsibility of
helping mother Earth to recover and prevent total destruction. We are here on this planet for a
reason.
Moreover, as future professional and leaders we should adapt the same mentality as the
leaders of Interface had. That mentality of prioritizing and considering safety and preservation of
our environment. Their unselfish desire to realize this goal by cooperating to other organizations
and industries which encourages everyone to make it their goal as well is also very inspiring.
I also like how socially responsible Interface is in doing their business. They are not only
benefitting nature but also they give opportunities for those low income communities. These can
be reflected in their inclusive business program. That is why I also learned the importance of
helping other people to inspire them as well while we are in a mission of achieving our goal.
More than that, I also learned from the case study about Interface the essence of setting a
definite and clear goal. In order to make progress one need to set certain short-term goals with
defined timelines. A step by step process is very important to achieve a certain goal. Another
learning I had is regarding the essence of leadership. Ray Anderson, founder of Interface and
Geanne van Arkel, Head of Sustainable Development at Interface showed how a leader should
redirect his/her group towards a goal. Without their sheer will and courage Interface won’t make
it as one of the top global carpet company in the said industry and its goal for sustainable
environment won’t be made possible. Leadership is not enough to attain success, teamwork is
paramount in completing an objective. With the help of everyone working in the Interface, their
mission to create a business carpet industry that preserves the environment is within their reach
already.
As a chemical engineering student and as a future professional I am inspired to dedicate my
knowledge and skills to create a product and process or services that will helped nature achieve
sustainability and stability and will benefit communities as well that will inspire other people or
organization to have the same mindset of helping and giving. I truly believe doing further
research in developing ways to harness renewable energy will greatly support these goal of
saving our planet and will impact a lot of communities in utilizing a cheaper and eco-friendly

energy source. As a future leader, I am also willing to lead an advocacy sustainable planet Earth
advocacy and cooperate with other organizations and groups that will initiate a movement that
will inspire and encourage everyone all around the world to start giving back the love our mother
nature provides us with.
