 Centrifugal Pump Disassemble and Inspection
 2.0 INTRODUCTION
A pump is a device that moves fluids (liquids or gases), or sometimes slurries, by
mechanical action. Pumps can be classified into three major groups according to the
method they use to move the fluid, direct lift, displacement and gravity pumps.
Pumps operate by some mechanism typically reciprocating or rotary, and consume
energy to perform mechanical work by moving the fluid. Pumps operate via many
energy sources, including manual operation, electricity, an engine of some type or
 wind power.
 3.0 OBJECTIVES OF EXPERIMENT
          Produce pumps maintenance procedure
Disassemble a few types of pumps as a practical. As a examples apparatus
can be use is disassemble pump, cleaning pump and greasing the pump.

 5.0 THEORY
Centrifugal pumps are a sub-class of dynamic axisymmetric work

absorbing turbo machinery. Centrifugal pumps are used to transport fluids
by the conversion of rotational kinetic energy to the hydrodynamic energy
of the fluid flow. The rotational energy typically comes from an engine or
electric motor. The fluid enters the pump impeller along or near to the
rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing radially outward
into a diffuser or volute chamber (casing), from where it exits.
Common uses include water, sewage, petroleum and petrochemical
pumping. The reverse function of the centrifugal pump is a water turbine
converting potential energy of water pressure into mechanical rotational
          energy.
Like most pumps, a centrifugal pump converts mechanical energy
from a motor to energy of a moving fluid. A portion of the energy goes into
kinetic energy of the fluid motion, and some into potential energy,
represented by fluid pressure (hydraulic head) or by lifting the fluid, against
          gravity, to a higher altitude.
6.0 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
   i. Operator must be aware of pumpage and safety precautions to prevent
          physical injury.
ii. Pump components can be heavy. Proper methods of lifting must be
employed to avoid physical injury and equipment damage.
iii. Steel toed shoes must be worn at all times
iv. The pump may handle hazardous or toxic fluids, so proper protective
equipment should be worn and pumpage must be handled and disposed of
in conformance with applicable environmental regulations.
   v. Lock out power supply to driver motor to prevent accidental startup and
          physical injury.
vi. Allow all system and pumps components to cool before handling them to
          prevent physical injury.
vii. Never apply heat to remove parts because it may produce explosion due to
trapped fluid, resulting in severe physical injury and property damage.

Disassemble of centrifugal pump
   i. The pump body are disconnect from the electrical source
ii. The pump body are remove from centrifugal pump system
iii. Loose the nut of the shaft using a wrench to take out the impeller from the
           shaft.
iv. The coupling key are take a out from the key way.
  v. The spring and mechanical seal are remove from the shaft
vi. The O-ring are remove from body pump.
vii. Take out the fan cover and remove the fan by take out the seal.
viii. Loose the screw using wrench to remove the motor cover and take out the
           retainer washer.
ix. The shaft are remove from the housing to take out the bearing using three
           arm bearing puller.
  x. The front bearing are remove and rear bearing by using bearing puller.
8.0 Inspection Checklist
- The pump is in good condition. When we opened the pump, it turned out that the
pump did not have any symptoms of damage.
9.0 disscussions :
8.1 From the inspection checklist discuss the symptoms and the possible causes
            of the problem.
            - From the results of the experiment we have done it was found that the
pump did not suffer any damage because all the components in the pump
            are in good condition
10.0 Conclusion
State your conclusion from the practical task
- . A centrifugal pump is a machine that changes kinetic energy into the fluid's
pressure head. The external power from a diesel generator or electric motor then
turns the pump impeller. Under the influence of the centrifugal force, the fluid
enters the impeller reaching its tip and leaving the volute casing.
