Last year, my family decided to go for a drive to Key West. Driving from Miami to Key West takes
about three hours on the scenic coastal Overseas Highway. It was a breathtaking drive and we kept our
eyes glued to the window. The scenery was gorgeous and felt like we were driving over water.
When we were closer to Key West, suddenly my father stopped the car, grabbed his camera, and
ran out looking up at the sky leaving us looking at him bewildered. After a few minutes of looking and
pointing at a shiny object in the sky, he was thrilled to announce he had spotted a UFO - an unidentified
flying object. I should mention here that my father loves his Sci-Fi movies and UFO shows.
We eventually got back in the car and stopped at a nearby store. My father asked a man in the
parking lot. “Do you see that alien aircraft in the sky?”. The man looked up and responded, “Oh, do you
mean Fat Albert?”. We came to find out later that the shiny object in the sky was “Fat Albert”. It was
the radar aerostat blimp that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) uses to keep an eye on
shipping hereabouts. Knowing that, we could not stop ourselves from laughing.
That story always comes up when we talk about our trips. It starts with one of us saying “Remember

I spent a semester studying abroad in Cuba with my classmates last year, which was actually my
first international trip. Not long after we arrived, I bought a dear hammock at an artisan market in
Havana. I could not wait to hang it up and there was a perfect pair of trees on the grounds of the
 apartment-hotel where we were staying.
There was just one problem. I could not find rope anywhere. I had to go to five hardware stores
and ended up picking up a piece of old electrical wires in a vacant lot. Then, I went back to the hotel.
One of the security guards helped me out and then I settled with my drink and book to enjoy relaxing
in the hammock for the first time. Suddenly, the wire broke about 10 seconds later and I ended up on
the ground finding myself covered in coke.
Along with my newfound security guard friend, we tried several more times to get it to stay hung
but I fell on my butt several more times as well. Two of my classmates apparently had the laugh
watching from the window and had even taken a video of these failed attempts. They shared the video
with the whole group. I blushed to realise what a fool I made of myself.

make sure no one is watching from the window.

I spent a year of my university studies in Malaysia and at the end of the year I went to an island for
the weekend with some friends. We decided to stay in a cute little lodge with an ensuite bathroom
which was very simple. I put my bag on the bed and rushed into the bathroom as soon as we got to our
room. When I opened the door, I found that we were not alone there. To my surprise, a black snake
was chilling out in the toilet.
Obviously freaking out, I turned to my friend, Freddy, thinking he might have a clue what to do. He
immediately hid behind me – not overly useful. Then, I went to the reception and tried to explain the
situation to the staff. I gestured that they need to follow me to the toilet. They had an in-depth
discussion and called more and more people to join. They came up with a pole and a rope. They then
created what I can only describe as a lasso to catch it. But by this point, the snake got scared and
 disappeared down the pipes.
The staff left us with an instruction that when the snake came back, we had to fish it out of the
toilet, pull the lasso sharply and bring it to reception. It sounds simple enough. However, let’s just say
that our snake-toilet-fishing skills were not up to scratch and the snake was still living there when we
left. Good luck to future guests.

We had a camp trip to Death Valley National Park, which my friends and I thought got its name
because nothing lives there. In fact, we were wrong.
While cooking dinner in the campground, one of us had an idea to open all the car doors in the
evening to release the stale air inside. This did not turn out to be a very good idea.
The next morning, we packed everything up and got ready to discover other parts of Death Valley,
when suddenly a mouse jumped on my legs and quickly disappeared.
“Boys, we have a mouse in the car!” I screamed. My brother turned to me disbelievingly. “What are
you talking about?”. I got a similar gaze from my friend, Jacob. The truth came out the next morning,
though. When Jacob grabbed a pack of pasta, it started to spill all over the car trunk. The mouse must
have bitten a hole in it. The mouse had also eaten through my headphones. Now, we began to worry
 about the car’s electricity.
We decided to go to Walmart for traps. Before heading to bed, we carefully filled the traps with
cheese and bread and spread them throughout the car. Unfortunately, when we woke up they were
empty and we found more holes in the food packages.
It was clear that if there was enough food in the car, the traps would not be interesting for her.
Therefore, we completely unloaded our car. Every crumb was removed. We set up the traps and went
to sleep, and in the morning there she was, one of the fattest mice we had ever seen.
