though Friar Lawrence’s plans all seem well conceived and well intentioned, they serve as the main
mechanisms through which the
fated tragedy of the play occurs. Knowing the possible consequences, the friar still decides to marry Romeo and Juliet.
nother reason Friar Lawrence is to blame is that he tells Juliet to take the sleeping potion. The friar does not think
about what could possibly go wrong with giving her. The friar should have put more thought into his plan, so the plan
woul. Friar Lawrence is to blame is that he was not able to get a servant to Romeo to tell him that Juliet is not really
dead. Friar Lawrence should have made better decisions during the play to stop the tragedy from happening.
. Romeo killed Tybalt causing Romeo to get banished from Verona. Romeo can be blamed for killing himself at the end
of the play. If Romeo would have put more time into making the decisions that he made the tragedy might not have
occurred.
ybalt is indirectly responsible for Romeo and Juliet's deaths because his decision to challenge Romeo to a duel leads to
his exile. After Romeo kills Tybalt, he is banished from Verona. Outside of Verona, Romeo is not privy to Juliet and
Friar Laurence's plan and does not know that she is alive. The miscommunication influences Romeo to take his life at
Juliet's tomb before she wakes up. Once Juliet discovers her dead husband, she also commits suicide. act 3, scene 1
Tybalt plays a significant role as a rather minor character. His quick-temperedness at the party foreshadows the duels
in Act III, scene 1. As Lord Capulet rebukes him, one can sense the rage and desire to regain his pride, seething just
below the surface. Of course, he challenges Romeo to a duel, but Mercutio steps in instead. Tybalt slays him, but
seemingly by accident. Romeo pursues him, and kills Tybalt in a heated battle....
In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the theme of tragedy is portrayed when Romeo
and Juliet take their own lives. There are multiple factors and characters that lead to their demise yet
some remain more responsible than others; Friar Lawrence, and Tybalt significantly influenced the death
of the two star-crossed lovers. (54)
Friar Lawrence contributes to their demise because of his irresponsibility. The friar creates poorly made
and executed plans. This is seen in act 2,scene 3 when he irresponsibly agrees to marry the two
teenagers despite knowing that there could be consequences. This scene proves that the friar’s
irresponsibility contributes to the theme of tragedy and death in the play. (59)
Tybalt is indirectky responsible for the death of the young lovers because of his quick temper. His
temper at the party forshadows the fight scene in Act 3 Scene 1, which lead to Tybalt killing mercutio.
Romeo avenges his death by killing tybalt which lead to his banishment. If Tybalt had started the duel
and cause romeos banishment, Romeo and Juliet would not have been in such a rush to get married.
This would have allowed them to come up with a well thought out plan for a happy life together, making
Tybalt’s temper and death contribute to the theme of tragedy in the play. (105)
Romeo himself influences both of the lovers deaths by being impulsive throughout the play. This is seen
when he impulsively kills Tybalt leading to his banishment. Romeo realizes his impulsiveness when he
says “O, I am fortune’s fool!”, (Act III, Scene i, 129).We also see his impulsiveness when he decides to kill
himself almost immediately after finding Juliet. If he had waited just a little while, he would have been
there for Juliet to wake up or for the friar to explain the plan. This proves that his impulsiveness did in
fact contribute to the theme of tragedy and death in the play. (103)
Many characters in the play contributed to the death of Romeo and Juliet, yet none of these characters
are solely responsible for their tragic tale. It can be seen throughout the play that what truly killed the
lovers was a combination of characters and factors like love, society, and most of all fate. It can be
deduced that no single character can be blamed for the tragic death of Romeo and Juliet. (72)
