Self care requisite are “ expressions of outside” to be attained, results desired from deliberate engagement in self -care. Self -care requisite may be broken down into 3 categories.
1. Universal self care requisite
This is common to all human beings and include the maintenance of air, water, food, elimination, activity and rest, social interaction, prevention of hazards and promotion of human functioning.
2. Developmental self care requisite
These promotes processes of life and maturation and prevent condition that deleterious or bad.
3. Health deviation self care requisite
Orem theory defined health deviation self care requisite as follow:
Disease or injuries affects not only specific structures and physiologic or psychological mechanical but integrated human functioning. Deviation self care requisite arise from directly from disease, injury, disfigurement and disability.

Person - Orem described the person as a “human being .....a unity that can be viewed as functioning biologically, symbolically and socially. The person’s particular interest in self care frame is the nurse patient relationship.
Environment- Orem described human environment in terms of physical, chemical, biological and social feature. Family dynamic, family relationship, resource of family also include in this .
Health - Orem define health is a state of the person that is characterised by soundness or wholeness of developed human body and mental functioning.
Nursing- Nursing is to provide therapeutic care to patient. The ability of nursing care is called nursing agency. Her aims to meet people need who are depend on them ( self Alcatel demand).
Application of Orem theory in nursing process
Orem’s self care model on newborn nursing care plan .
Situation -
36 weeks gestation, female newborn born per vaginal after failure to stop premature labour. Aagar score is 5. Resuscitation per positive pressure ventilation for 2 minutes and transferred to nursery . Her weight is 1.52 kg and mother is 6 gravies 6para.
Assessment-
• Newborn is in respiratory distress, crackles breathing sound, acrocynosis notes.
• Oxyhood start at 40%.
• Newborn in warmer.
• Peripheral IV start, D10 at 6 ml / hr.
Nursing diagnosis-
• Impaired gas exchange related to inadequate surfactant level.
• Ineffective thermoregulation related to prematurity and low birthweight.
• Alter nutrition less than body requirements related to respiratory distress.
Planning -
• The newborn will improved has exchange:- oxygen given 24 hrs.
• The newborn will maintain thermal homeostasis: by putting newborn in warmer.
• The newborn will maintain adequate nutrition: by giving IV glucose administration.
Implementation-
• The nurse provide wholly compensatory and partially compensatory roles to assist the newborn achieve goal.
• The nurse act as assessing, suctioning, chest physiotherapy.
• Homeostasis by feeding, bathing and maintain thermal environment.
