Introduction to Operating System (OS)

Instructions:
1. Select a computing device or gadget (i.e…, smartphone, tablet, and laptop) that you
currently have access to. Then, retrieve the following details about the device.
Device Brand/Model: Vivobook_ASUS Laptop E410MA_E410MA
Operating System (OS): Windows 11
OS version/Build: 21H2/22000.978
Size of the RAM: 4.00GB
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron® N4020 CPU @1.10GHz
Display Quality: 1366x768

2. Answer the following items in 3 to 5 sentences only.

a. Describe the performance of your device.
 The performance of my PC even with a fast Internet connection, it will make my
processor low speeds or even my memory can slow down my PC’s entire system.
But usually, my PC has a fast run because it has a 1.10GHz. But my memory or
RAM is good because I have 4.00GB and the Comcast recommends at least 1GB
of memory for all computers and more is better.
b. In your opinion, does the operating system affect the overall performance of your
device? Why or Why not?
 Yes, because the operating system is software that manages computer hardware
and system resources and provides the tools that applications need to operate.
The operating system can directly affect the security, performance, speed, and
software capabilities support and affect the quality of work of mobile devices.
The operating system coordinates all of this to make sure each program gets
what it needs.
c. Give five (5) installed applications that greatly affect the processing speed or
performance of your device.
 Adobe Photoshop
OBS Studio
Blue Stack
Microsoft Teams
Zoom
d. In your perspective, is there a possible relationship between the processor and
the display quality of your device? Rationalize your answer.
 No, the processor has no impact on display output as this is entirely handled by the
display controller of your integrated or dedicated GPU.
e. Operating System, RAM, or Processor. Which among the three would you
upgrade first and why?
At the present age, the processor of the PC holds much more value than RAM
and therefore, you should always look for a better processor in the device rather
than its RAM. Good RAM is getting cheaper every single day, but good
processors would not be available at so less. Faster CPU results in speedier
operations. By operations, I mean the speed of opening apps, the speed with
which a click responds, and other things. More RAM results in better
multitasking. Frequently used apps and app data is stored in RAM.

3. Search for another example of an operating system (aside from the operating systems
that are already included in the handout) and examine its architecture and
specifications. Then, answer the following items:
a. What is the name of the operating system?
Ubuntu

b. What is the latest version of the operating system?

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS “Focal Fossa

c. Who developed the operating system?

Mark Shuttleworth
d. Cite your reference(s).
https://ubuntu.com/about

e. Describe the internal architecture of the operating system.

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution based on Debian and composed mostly of free
and open-source software

f. What makes the operating system unique? Rationalize your answer.

Ubuntu Linux is the most popular open-source operating system. There are many
reasons to use Ubuntu Linux that make it a worthy Linux distro. Apart from being
free and open source, it's highly customizable and has a Software Center full of
apps.
