Instructions to the Candidate on Typing Skill Test e-call letter.
Please read carefully and comply with all the instructions
Candidates will be allowed to appear in the examination only on producing e- Call letter, photograph and original photo ID.
1. Candidate needs to make his/her own travel and stay arrangements for attending the test. Candidates are advised, in their own interest, to follow Covid
Appropriate Behaviour & must wear face mask at all times.

2. Change of date/shift/centre of examination is not permitted under any circumstances.

3. This Typing Skill Test e-Call Letter is valid only for the test date, shift and time as specified thereon.

4. Please affix Passport size Colour Photograph in the space provided on the RRB portion of the Typing Skill Test e-Call Letter.

5. Candidates are advised to locate their test centre and its accessibility at least a day before the test so that they can reach the centre on time on the day of the
test.

6. No candidate will be allowed inside the test centre after gate closing time for the date and shift indicated in the e-Call Letter

7. Candidates should report at the Exam centre well in advance of the reporting time indicated on the e-Call Letter to complete activities such as AADHAAR
linked Biometric Authentication of the candidate, capture of biometric (LTI) and photo, collection of documents, announcement of instructions and logging
in etc. The candidates are required to carry Aadhaar card to facilitate biometric Authentication.

8. Eligible PwBD Candidates seeking exemption from typing test but have not uploaded the valid/proper medical certificate for exemption from typing skill test
in the link provided for this purpose within the prescribed date or whose uploaded certificate has been rejected will have to physically report at the venue and
produce original medical certificate in prescribed proforma i.e. Annexure-V (E) for exemption, failing which they will be treated as absent in the test.

9. Typing Skill Test e-Call Letter is to be submitted for verification at the time of the test. At least one original and valid photo identification card (i.e. not
photocopied or scanned or expired) such as Voter Card, Aadhaar Card, printout of e-Aadhaar, Driving License, PAN card, E-PAN Card Print out, Passport,
Identity Card issued by the employer in case the candidate is a Govt. Employee, School / College / University Photo ID card, SSLC/HSC mark sheet with
photo must be presented failing which he/she will not be permitted for the exam. In case the presented ID proof is found doubtful / not genuine, alternate
photo ID proof has to be submitted to avoid denial of permission to attend exam. Photocopy of the ID proof will not be allowed.

10. Candidates to note the following timings. The duration of CBTST will be 10 minutes.

Shift-1
Reporting Time 12:30 PM
Gate Closing Time 01:30 PM
Exam Start Time 02:00 PM

11. Special instructions annexed with e-call letter as well as given by the Invigilator in the test lab should be followed strictly.

12. The Typing Skill Test is qualifying in nature i.e. candidates should be able to type 30 w.p.m in English or 25 w.p.m. in Hindi on computer without editing and
Spell check facility

13. The duration of the test will be 10 (Ten) minutes. The candidates are required to type in English or Hindi as per option exercised by them.

14. Candidates opted to take Hindi Typing test must be familiar in the usage of Krutidev or Mangal font.

15. As the skill test is to determine the speed, candidates who have completed the passage can retype passage within the duration of test i.e. 10 minutes.
Candidates (other than exempted PwBD) who do not type the whole passage at least once in 10 minutes will be treated as disqualified. If a candidate does
not qualify in the Typing speed, he/she will be considered unsuccessful in Typing Skill Test and unsuitable for respective posts involving typing skill posts
irrespective of higher merit in 2nd stage CBT.

16. No Rough sheet will be provided during the Exam.

17. The Typing Skill Test e-Call Letter is provisional and subject to the condition that the candidate has fulfilled all the eligibility conditions like academic
qualification, category, ExSM, PwBD status etc. as mentioned in his/her online application which is subject to verification in the successive stages of the
selection process.

18. Banned items/electronic gadgets such as Mobile phones, pager, watches, Bluetooth enabled devices, calculators, metallic wears, bangles, belts, bracelets
etc. are NOT ALLOWED inside the Test Centre. Only Medical Certificate, e-Call Letter and Photo ID card in original will be allowed inside the test hall.
Candidate should not carry any Pen/ Pencil inside the Test Centre. Pen will be provided to the candidates during the Exam. Candidates are requested not to
apply Henna on their hands/Feet as this obstructs the capture of Biometrics.

19. Special instructions, if any, given by the Invigilator should be followed strictly.

20. RRB reserves the right to order re-examination for any or all the candidates.

21. Decision of the RRB in all the matters will be final and binding on the candidates.

22. Indulging in any type of malpractice /unfair means/Misbehaviour/indiscipline/ impersonation at any stage of the recruitment process will lead to immediate
cancellation of candidature, followed by permanent debarring from Railway Examinations and Appointment in Railways.

23. The candidate should not leave the test lab until they are asked to do so.

Special Instructions to Candidates Appearing in the Typing Skill Test

(i) Candidates are requested to read the On-screen instructions carefully.


(ii) Typing Skill Test will be conducted in English/Hindi on Computer as per the language option chosen by the candidate. In case the option was not
exercised by a candidate, the Typing Skill Test for such candidates will be in English. The Typing test consist of three parts viz: 1. Practice Typing for
one minute to familiarize with key board 2. Break for 30 seconds. 3. Typing Test for 10 minutes which will be taken for evaluation. The Typing Test will be
conducted on computer without editing tools and spell check facility.
For those candidates who appear for Typing Skill Test in Hindi, Keyboards layouts containing Krutidev and Mangal (Inscript/Remington Gail/
Remington CBI) fonts will be made available on computers.
(iii) The duration of the test is 10 minutes. The candidates are required to type the test paragraph containing 300 words during the test so as to attain a
minimum speed of 30 words per minute in English Typewriting. Similarly, a candidate appearing in Hindi Typewriting should type the test paragraph
containing 250 words in order to attain a speed of 25 words per minute. The transcripts of those candidates who do not type 300 words in English or 250
words in Hindi within the prescribed time will not be evaluated.
(iv) Candidates must start typing from the starting of the text and must complete the whole text. If any candidate finishes the text before the allotted time,
he/she should restart the same passage and continue typing until expiry of the time.
(v) The evaluation of the passage typed by the candidate will be done as follows:
(a) The mistakes will be classified as full mistakes and half mistakes. 5% mistakes of the total words typed may be ignored.
Accordingly, the total number of mistakes will be calculated as:-
No. of full mistakes + No. of half mistakes
= Total Mistakes

(b) Final Count of Mistakes = Total number of mistakes – 5% of total number of words typed.
(c) The typing speed of the candidate will be worked out by the following formula:-
No. of total words typed – (Final count of mistakes x 10)

For Example: If a candidate types a total number of 400 words in 10 minutes and commits 10 final count of mistakes, his speed would be
worked out as follows:
400 - (10x10) 300
= = 30 w.p.m

(d) Following errors will be marked as full mistakes:


• For every substitution of words/figure by a wrong one.
• For every addition of a word/figure are found in the passage. However, addition of a group of words in place of one actual word will
be marked as only one full mistake.
• For every spelling error committed by way of repetition or addition or transposition or omission or substitution of a letter/letters, e.g.
the word spelling’ typed as seplling, speling, spellnig, seepllng, spellings etc.,
• In case a group of words is omitted, only one mistake would be marked for such omission. However, the total number of strokes
omitted would be subtracted from the total number of strokes up to which the candidate had typed from the passage.
• In case a group of words/lines is wrongly repeated, only one mistake would be marked for repetition. However, the total words
repeated would not be counted in the total number of words typed and the errors in such repeated group of words would also be
ignored.
(e) Following errors will be marked as half mistakes:
Ÿ Spacing error – Where no space is provided between two words, e.g., I hope’ or undesired space is provided between the words or
letters of a word, e.g., ‘I hope’, ‘I h ave’ I hxxxave (using xxx between letters of a word).
Ÿ Punctuation error – Where a punctuation mark is omitted or added or substituted by another.
Ÿ Paragraph error – Where the space left before starting paragraph or between paragraph is not uniform, half mistake will be
deducted for each wrong paragraph.
Ÿ Wrong capitalization – Wrong use of capital letter for small letter and vice-versa. (This does not apply to Hindi typewriting scripts).
Ÿ Transposition error – Where words are transposed, e.g., the word ‘I hope’ as ‘hope I’.
Ÿ Syllabification error – Where the words are improperly divided at the end of the line, e.g., ‘It is necessary to take preca-ution’.
Ÿ Faulty operations. The following errors will be marked as half mistakes caused due to the faulty operation of shift/letter keys:
- Slanting or crowed at the bottom of a page, e.g., ‘it would be neces
sary’
- Omission of a letter in a word causing blank space in place of a letter,
e.g., ‘I h pe’

(vi) PwBD candidates who claim exemption from Typing Skill Test are required to submit the medical certificate in prescribed proforma (Annexure-V(E) of
CEN-01/2019). The required medical certificate should be issued by a Medical Board attached to the Special Employment Exchange or by a Civil
Surgeon/Chief Medical Officer where such a Board does not exist. A link was provided in the RRB website to upload the Exemption Certificate. Those
eligible candidates who have not uploaded the exemption certificate in the website or whose certificates has been rejected due to deficiency in the
certificate, can produce the Exemption Certificate in person at the allotted exam centre on the day of exam.

The PwBD candidates, who do not submit the requisite medical certificate, seeking such exemption from Typing Skill Test, either online or at the venue,
will have to undergo the Typing Skill Test on the scheduled date. In case any PwBD candidate seeking such exemption, does not submit the requisite
medical certificate either online or at the venue and also does not turn up on the date/and time of the Typing Skill Test with the medical certificate,
he/she will be treated as absent and will be eliminated from the selection process for posts having Typing Skill Test. He/she will, however, be eligible to
be considered for other posts depending upon his/her merit cum preferences and suitability.

(vii) If the candidates who are not exempted from Typing Test remain absent on the date of typing test, he/she shall be disqualified for posts having Typing
Test.

(viii) More number of candidates than the vacancies are being called for typing test and merely calling a candidate for typing test does not in any way entitle
him/her to an appointment in the Railways.

The above instructions are indicative. Instructions will be followed which are in vogue at the time of examination.

(ix) Candidate to note that he/she must report for typing test on above date and time only. In case the candidate is absent in Typing Test on above date, no
second chance will be given and he/she will not be considered for posts having typing skill as a requirement.
