AC2201 CHAPTER 19 Notes

Short-term employee benefits include salaries, wages, paid leave, bonuses and non-monetary benefits expected to be settled within 12 months. The cost is recognized as an expense when the related economic benefit is provided to the employee. Accumulating paid absences that can be carried forward to future periods are recognized when the service that earns the absences is provided. Non-accumulating paid absences that do not vest and are lost if unused lapse and are recognized when the absences occur. Profit-sharing and bonus plans create a constructive obligation as employees render service increasing the amount to be paid if they remain until specified periods.
