Chapter 1: PROJECT AND ITS BACKGROUND

Project Context
Technology is an essential part of our lives today and few cannot imagine living without it. A
Bounty card Transaction with Point-of-Sale system allows your business to accept
payments from customers and keep track of sales with bonuses. It sounds simple enough, but
the setup can work in different ways, depending on whether you sell online, have a physical
storefront, or both of it. Then, it is so important in a business to have their POS to help the
payments transaction become easier to the establishment and to its customers.

The Obsessitea is one of the small-scale establishment Café located in the town of
Barangay Poblacion, Norala South Cotabato. Obsessitea wants to improve their traditional and
manual transaction that can make their business become profitable, documented and quality
service to its customer. The proposed system called Bounty Card Transaction with Point-of-Sale
System of Obsessitea Norala which can help to ease some of the serving mistake, organized
the number of queries, reduce customer’s questions, quality payments and a transparent
invoice to the owners and also to the customers plus the bounty card transaction where the
establishment interacts to the customers by giving back to the customers’ bonuses, gifts,
vouchers and other surprises.

Thus, the result of this study will help the establishment to meet the satisfaction of the
owner and the customers. The new system being developed will include a database that allows
you to store and retrieve data about all transactions about each item in the store, managing
product releases and data storage. These speeds up improvisation of work with less time and
effort. Since the concept of Bounty card transaction with Point-of-Sale system is to reduce
paperwork and ineffective Sales management methods, this system is expected to help
determine the appropriate bounty card transaction with point-of-sale management for the sales
level of the Obsessitea.
Statement of the problem

The study will support and manage the Bounty Card Transaction with Point-of-Sale System of Obsessitea Norala. We, the student mention above of the
Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) will use Visual Studio 2019 software and Microsoft SQL Server 2019 for the for the design and database of the
said project. The software will be the response to the current manual operations, payments, services and bounty transaction of the establishment which includes the
following:

1. No software or application. The business of Obsessitea has no visible system especially in term of orders, payments, invoices and cards.

2. Lack of Security. The manual process of the Obsessitea were not secure with respect to the confidentiality of reports and amounts of the establishment.

3. Lack of Data Storage. There were a lot of reports and amounts must be accommodated and save to the system but it’s not organized properly.

4. No Vouchers for Customers. This study will be the highlight of the system. Therefore, this is one of the problems on how to provide this transaction to
make the system successful.

Objective of the studies

Bounty Card transaction with Point-of-sale system is one of the keys that needs to be properly
managed in order to ensure that daily work is carried out smoothly. Then, this project will be a
big help to enhance the function of the Obssesitea with the objectives includes:

1. to upgrade the manual payment method of the establishment

2. to reduce customer’s questions, quality payments and a transparent invoice to the
owner.
3. to ease some of the serving mistake.
4. to simplify the record keeping task involve in the business.
5. to generate a quick review of the product list and quick track of the incomes.
6. to interact with the customers via bounty card.

Scope and limitation

Bounty Card Transaction with point-of-sale system which will be replaced instead of the Manual
ordering transactions and it is mainly implemented in many retail stores, restaurants, lodges and
so on. They not only see the work of cash register but also keeps record keeping, reporting,
sales, and keeps tracks of past order history. But the Point-of-Sale System may be costlier than
the cash register system. Some of the possibilities that might occur with the help of the study:

Scope
 The permission of the owner/administrator for the employees to access the system.
 The owner/administrator is the only one who has access to create an account and gives
permission for their employees to access the transaction of the system. In the proposed
system the employees can only use the transactions for the purchase of products.
 Includes the daily and monthly sales reports.
 The ability to make a stock adjustment.
 Easy to keep track of the stock adjustments you make from time to time.
 The ability to set item prices and the ability to update the stock prices.
 Prices of items could be easily adjusted.
 Generates invoice to the customers.
 Create a Bounty Card Transaction to the customers.
Limitations
 Online ordering is not covered by the system.
This could be a face-to-face transaction and not online, this is a system
for vouchers, sales and inventory and does not deal with any online/Wi-Fi
connection used for transactions.

 The system does not include online payments & bank cards.
The system is not for any special operation or special reading for payment like
debit cards, credit cards & E-moneys. This is only for cash transaction with the
Bounty Card Transaction. Due to time and not sufficient knowledge of the
proponents, the software that is developed covers only the aspect of food
ordering payments, adding stocks and sales record details.

 The system should be in full/cash payments only.

This system does not accept installment and online or delivery payments.

 The system is exclusively to the owner and authorized personnel only.

The info in this system is not able to be shared to the customer and does not
access any person who’s not in charge in the system.

 The system does not include payroll operations.

The payroll operation is not covered in this system. This system is for Bounty
card, Ordering and sales of items only.

Significance of Study
And also, it helps them to improve their marketing strategy. A Bounty Card transaction with
Point-of-Sale system can also monitor the cost of goods sold, purchase price, sale price and
profit margins, allowing users to pull reports.

The main output of this study will be beneficial to the following:

Owner/Admin – can add an account/s, can manage the stocks, view the sales record for privacy
and security of the Obsessitea Establishment.

Customers - have the benefits of the printed receipts right after purchasing an item and they can
avail the Bounty card of the Obsessitea to get free gifts offer of the establishment.

Researcher - student, teacher, programmer, and web-developer can benefit in this system
through a detailed document.

Restaurant & Café - Some restaurants and Café nationwide would have an idea of elevating
from manual system to computerized transactions and what is all about bounty card
transactions.

CHAPTER 2: REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the review of related literature and studies. It shows the similarities, differences, as well as the synthesis of the study to compare the different
studies conducted and literature that help the researchers broaden their knowledge and achieve their goal respectively.
Foreign Literature
As published by The Love School of Business, Elon University, Elon, NC, USA (25 Jul 2018) by
Tim Norvell & Alisha Horky (25 Jul 2018). Many retailers are now offering bonus gift cards to
entice customers to buy more regular gift cards. The most common offers are a $5 bonus card
with $25 worth of gift card purchases or a $10 bonus card with $50 worth of purchases. Unlike
regular gift cards, bonus gift cards are not paid for by other customers. Bonus cards provide $5
or $10 of free credit to a customer at the firm’s expense. Most retailers do not understand the
potential for cannibalization of revenue and profit when gift card redeemers use a bonus card for
a purchase, they would have made without it. Nor do they know what proportion of redeemers
represent these cannibalized sales versus the proportion of redeemers that represent
incremental purchases. We use an in-market study with a large national restaurant chain to
demonstrate a methodology and model to properly evaluate the effect of bonus gift card
programs on revenue and profit. We found that although bonus gift cards provide incremental
revenue, they can significantly reduce profit particularly in certain retail segments. For those
who wish to implement a bonus card program, we provide suggestions to maximize the potential
for success. (Reference: Tim Norvell & Alisha Horky, The Love School of Business, Elon

The Customer loyalty programmers has grown as a technology that becomes more practical to
implement. The scheme has been around since early 1990s when businesses were looking for
innovative ways of strengthening their customer relationships. The main aim of this report was
to review literature on the use of loyalty cards by supermarkets. IEEE (Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers) and Google Scholar electronic databases were searched for relevant
literature. The findings suggest that technological advances have enabled supermarkets to carry
out the loyalty cards scheme seamlessly. Other benefits include customer retention and
satisfaction. However, the scheme is not immune from risks associated with holding large
amounts of data. In conclusion, supermarkets need to ensure adequate security protocols are in
place for managing the data on their customers and ensure that they obtain consent from their
customers for any third-party use. (Reference: Ibrahim Muhammad Hassan, INTERNATIONAL

Impact of Loyalty Cards on Customers Store Loyalty. The study took place in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey with the participation of 309 Turkish consumers. All of
the respondents in the study were 18 years or older. A mall-intercept approach was adopted in the data collection A total of 309 surveys were conducted face-to-face
at three selected shopping malls in a large metropolitan area. These malls were specifically selected because they had stores that do offer customer loyalty cards as
well as those that do not. To avoid systematic bases, recruiters paid attention to selection criteria based on cross-cultural balance, gender, age distribution, day of
week, and time of day.

The survey composed of 16 questions and was divided into two sections. In the first section,
demographic items were included to obtain information regarding respondent’s age, gender,
education and income. These demographic variables helped to explain different consumption
behaviors of different types of consumers. In the second section, items were asked regarding
the concept of store loyalty cards and other factors that may have an effect on customers’ store
loyalty. Prior to conducting the field study, the validity of the survey questions was determined
by a pilot study including 34 subjects.

According to the website BLABLA WRITING, Over the years, more enhancements were made
to the cash registers until the early 1970s, when the first computer-driven cash registers were
introduced. The first computer-driven cash registers were basically a mainframe computer
packaged as a store controller that could control certain registers. These point-of-sale systems
were the first to commercially utilize client-server technology, peer to peer communications,
Local Area Network (LAN) backups, and remote initialization.

In the late 1980s, retail software based on PC technology began to make its way into
mainstream retail business. Today, retail point of sale systems are light years ahead of where
they began. Today’s POS systems are faster, more secure, and more reliable than their
predecessors, and allow retailers to operate every facet of their business with a single,
integrated point of sale system.

Since computer powers was the critical resource, efficiency of processing become the main
goal. Emphasis was placed on automating existing process such as purchasing or paying, often
within single department as indicated by Jeffrey A. Hofer on modern system analysis and design
(1996).

Point of sale (POS) systems are electronic systems that provide business with the capability to
retain and analyze a wide variety of inventory and transaction data on a continuous basis, POS
systems have been touted as valuable tools for a wide variety of business purposes, including
refining target marketing strategies; tracking supplier purchases; analyzing sales (on a daily,
monthly, or annual basis) of each inventory item, department, or supplier; and creating reports
for use in making purchases, reorders, etc.

Basic points of sale systems currently in use include standalone electronic cash registers, also
known as ECRs; ECR-based network systems; and controller-based systems. All function
essentially as sales and cash management tools, but each has features that are unique.Adam

Local Literature

According to the article of IJRDO-Journal of Business Management, Titled Impact of Loyalty

Card on Philippine Retail Industry by Norvin M. Palma, REB, CPME, MBA and Dr. Ernesto D.
Dimaculangan. The Philippine Retail Industry is a diversified conglomerate of different product
lines of businesses. It said to be notable or remarkable in terms of business formations,
enterprising skills, innovation and creative thinking, and continuing development. Nowadays,
several retail businesses have captured the percentage of contributing to the growth of the
economy and industry share of business.

One of the trends in the Philippine Market is the fusion of Loyalty Card in the retail word. Loyalty
could be found anywhere both local and global market. Big companies in the Philippines had
continued competing while maximizing the advantage or the strength of their customized loyalty
card. It also signifies different performance measures through using the card.

The researcher’s intention is to know and expose the benefits and impacts of the loyalty card in
the Philippines. The deliverables of the probable results of the research will might affect the
decisions of the business sectors regardless of any business size (small, medium, and large)
enterprise. However, the researchers wanted to find the deep understanding of using the card to
the following retail companies like SM (Super Malls), Petron, National Book Store, Mercury Drug
Store, and Philippine Airlines. The investigator would also like to expand its horizon by also
tapping other retail companies both local and global.

Lastly, the researcher would like to emphasize skepticism is nothing without finding first the reality of the great tool in marketing world which is the Loyalty Card. Im -
pact is a broad terminology for looking the horizon of research, therefore, an enjoyment of knowing the authenticity will make the research process enjoyable and chal -
lenging. (File: https://www.ijrdo.org/index.php/bm/article/download/1423/1348/ )

Synthesis

The proponents believe that the literatures and studies stated in this research are similar and
relates to the present study. The transaction and process will simply help the establishment to
acquire, accommodate and communicate to the customers. The proponents use the other
research in this chapter so that it can ease them to widen their knowledge during the creation of
the system. They always what to know what could be the possible uniqueness of their research
to the other literature, topic and article they got in this study.

The similarities of the proponents proposed system and about the previous research stated are
the technology utilization with its ideas on benefiting the customers. The proponents also
believe that they system will have a domino effect to the establishment, owner, employee,
system user and to the customers. In this case, both systems aim to develop a crucial factor to
fulfill the needs of its society. They both emphasizes to reach everyone with a better function of
system and its technological benefits.

The review of related literature and studies illustrates the specific and general task of the Bounty
Card Transaction and Point of Sale System. The system will tackle the management of the
Bounty Card Transaction also to its Point-of-Sale System where it will have its advantages and
disadvantages to the business. The chapter will give and idea to its reader to review what could
be the possible usage of this Bounty Card Transaction with Point-of-Sale System of Obssesitea
Norala.
