01.introduction To Modular Industry

The document discusses modular design and furniture. Modular design involves dividing a system into standardized parts or modules that can be independently created and assembled in different configurations. This allows for faster customization, easier repairs and replacement of parts, and maximized production efficiency. The furniture industry benefits from a modular approach through quick assembly and installation of prefabricated and standardized modules and parts. The document provides examples of modular manufacturing and assembly processes.

What is Modular
Modular design is a design approach that creates things out of independent parts
with standard interfaces. This allows designs to be customized, upgraded,
repaired and for parts to be reused.

Modularity in design, is a design

approach that subdivides a system
into smaller parts called modules, that
can be independently created and
then used in different systems.

Advantages of Modular Products

- Faster, easier and efficient customisation of

standard products to unique user needs.

- Saves Design Time, as assemblies/modules are

simply selected like bought out parts. Their cost
and properties are pre documented and easy
availability is ensured.

- Can set up efficient Assembly Line: Reduces

overall time taken to manufacture, assemble and
install a product, therefore maximising total sales
and revenue.
Advantages (contd…)

- Easy and quick installation of products

- Can be modified, repaired/serviced or

replaced, without affecting the other
assemblies.

- Modules/assembly of modules can be

outsourced: This frees-up manufacturing
capacity (asset light) and increases the number
of products delivered in a given time frame.

- Minimized cost

HL OVER CARPENTER

For a typical project, a local carpenters quotation will be lesser than HL quotation. Clients do compare
these quotations, and there is a fair chance that we lose the Cx to a local carpenter if the designer is not
proactive. The following are the major points we can discuss about when a Cx compares HL with a local
carpenter.
Design Experience
Timelines & Project Management
Post installation services
Quality - factory made products are more superior in quality and finish than the local carpenters on
site execution.
Modular Construction - Modular furnitures are easy to install, repair, transfer and replace.
Site Damages: Site damages ( tile scratch/breakage, wall damage) are rampant when people work in
site. HL team uses mat on the floor for installation and ensures minimal work at site.
