Program Change and Initializing
Before initializing the machine, there are a few things to know. The first and most important, if you
don’t follow this procedure exactly, I can guarantee you will have problems. Secondly, know when to initialize
and when not. Are you sure you even have to go through this? I can tell you many stories of how many
times service has had to fix a machine because this was performed when it was not need. How many times
has this happened…I don’t think I can count that high!! Read this entire section, listed below is information
on when to initialize and which procedure to do.
Location of Program Chips
Chip Orientation
Before you initialize…
Depending on which chips have been
changed, you may not have to perform a full
initialization.
If problems or errors occur, try again with a
full initialization.
EEPROMS CHANGED
Which Initialization to do:
What is initializing?
Initializing the machine will bring all EEPROMs defaults up for the controller use based on the size and type of machine
designated. Also when a full initialization is used, clears all of the internal data.
What if I have Old Style ALU? (MJ) (also, see following figure for comparison of new style ALU)
The DIP switch is mounted in the opposite direction on the OLD Style ALU board, so simply reverse the switch settings and
locate the information to enter in (EX. DIP bit1 = 8, bit 2 = 7, bit 3 = 6, bit 4 = 5, bit 5 = 4, bit 6 = 3, bit 7 = 2, and bit 8 = 1.
--- DSW1
FULL Initialization:
1. With the main power off, Turn ON # 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, with 3, 4, and 7 OFF.
Notice, when you go to this screen it will first come up in metric tons…this is O.K. During step 17, this will be entered a second time
and then will display U.S. tons.
Chapter 11: Initialization 11-4
CAUTION! Only enter in the options that are on your machine! Just because the software shows an option doesn’t mean it
is available. 99% of the options on this machine requires hardware OR the software for that option is incomplete. Please do
not select any options that are not on your list.
6. Turn OFF the Main Power and continue to the next step.
PARTIAL Initialization (A partial initialization would start from this point… otherwise, continue on.)
7. On DSW1 turn ON 1,5,6,7, and turn OFF 2,3,4,& 8.
9. Initialize internal memory of all new machines only, as older machine you may have setups that you want to keep,
since this will delete all of your setups. On page 13-B enter Keyword “INMEMORY” at the IN. memory init. location.
11. Turn the main power OFF. If you here a “CHIRP”, your doing O.K.
12. On DSW1 turn ON bits 1,5, & 6 and turn OFF 2,3,4,7, & 8.
(OLD STYLE – 3, 4, 8 ON)
13. Turn ON main power and let the controller boot up.
16. Turn the main power ON and let the controller boot up.

For other machine sizes, simply enter the number that corresponds to your machine size. Then, enter the serial number and
frequency and that’s it.
