Chapter 11: Initialization 11-1

Chapter 11
Program Change and Initializing
Before initializing the machine, there are a few things to know. The first and most important, if you
don’t follow this procedure exactly, I can guarantee you will have problems. Secondly, know when to initialize
and when not. Are you sure you even have to go through this? I can tell you many stories of how many
times service has had to fix a machine because this was performed when it was not need. How many times
has this happened…I don’t think I can count that high!! Read this entire section, listed below is information
on when to initialize and which procedure to do.
Location of Program Chips

If you are planning to

change the program on the
Mitsubishi, first check the chips that
you will change. There are eight
(8) program chips total; two (2)
located on the ALU, two (2) inside
the ROM card of the PLC, and four
(4) on the MIU / DIU board (see
diagram below).
MAC 7 has fewer program
chips, but they are in or on the
same three components (ALU – 1
card and 1 chip, PLC – 1 ROM
module, MIU / DIU – 2 chips)

Before inserting the chip…

line up the notches on the
EEPROM with the chip socket. If
the program chip is installed
backwards, this will reverse the
polarity of the chip and FRY IT!
Notice the figure below.

Chip Orientation
Before you initialize…
Depending on which chips have been
changed, you may not have to perform a full
initialization.
If problems or errors occur, try again with a
full initialization.

EEPROMS CHANGED
Which Initialization to do:

- ALL program chips changed:… Full

initialization
- ALU chips only:
Full
- MIU / DIU chips only:
- Partial
- Sequencer (ROM) chips only: Partial
Chapter 11: Initialization 11-2

Initializing the Machine

(MAC 6 - NEW STYLE ALU)

What is initializing?
Initializing the machine will bring all EEPROMs defaults up for the controller use based on the size and type of machine
designated. Also when a full initialization is used, clears all of the internal data.

What if I have Old Style ALU? (MJ) (also, see following figure for comparison of new style ALU)
The DIP switch is mounted in the opposite direction on the OLD Style ALU board, so simply reverse the switch settings and
locate the information to enter in (EX. DIP bit1 = 8, bit 2 = 7, bit 3 = 6, bit 4 = 5, bit 5 = 4, bit 6 = 3, bit 7 = 2, and bit 8 = 1.

When do I have to initialize?

• When a software change has been performed (if MIU/DIU chips only – partial initialize).
• When ALU board has been changed.
• If you have a parity error or CRAM error.
• If the battery back-up fails or the battery was disconnected with the power off.
• The barrel and screw has been changed.
• The machine will not complete the boot check steps.

Before you start:

Be patient, this is an involved process, follow each step completely through and you’ll not have any problems.
It would be a good idea to write down all of the information in keywords “OPTIONDA (sets the options that are on the
machine)”, “KISYUSEI (sets the machine and barrel size, the frequency and the serial number)”, and “TEMPCONF (sets the temp
screen and what channels are used by the TCU)”. These keywords are secure information and if in the wrong hands can literally
wreak havoc. Please do not give these out to untrained personnel for your own good as well as ours!
If there is a problem and you can’t access the information from these keywords, the information is in this manual. You still
will have to know what options your machine has. The options are listed on your install checklist, they are on the machine, or you can
call us with your frame number and we can look it up for you.

Initializing the machine:

Locate the ALU and specifically DSW1 (bank of eight switches)
Chapter 11: Initialization 11-3

--- DSW1

Picture of new style ALU

FULL Initialization:
1. With the main power off, Turn ON # 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, with 3, 4, and 7 OFF.

(OLD STYLE – 1, 3, 4, 7, 8 ON)

2. Turn the Main power ON.

3. Go to screen 13-F (keyword)

• Enter the keyword “KISYUSEI” (this is for machine and barrel type, frequency, and serial #)
• Enter the Machine Type, Serial Number (machine I.D. tag), and Frequency

Notice, when you go to this screen it will first come up in metric tons…this is O.K. During step 17, this will be entered a second time
and then will display U.S. tons.
Chapter 11: Initialization 11-4

4. Go back to screen 13F

• Enter the Keyword “OPTIONDA”
• Enter the Options installed on Machine into the machine’s memory (00 = OFF, FF = ON).
NOTE: The written list in this section can be used, however, it would be best to use the install checklist provided with you
machine at installation. If you don’t have it, call the service department with your frame number and we can look it up for you. Also
use the correct list for the software version installed. If unsure, call service for correct list.

CAUTION! Only enter in the options that are on your machine! Just because the software shows an option doesn’t mean it
is available. 99% of the options on this machine requires hardware OR the software for that option is incomplete. Please do
not select any options that are not on your list.

SEE THE OPTION DATA SECTION FOR A LIST OF WHAT SHOULD BE ON

5. Go back to screen 13-F (keyword)

• Enter the Keyword “TEMPCONF”
• Enter the Temperature Configuration for a FIVE or EIGHT
channel TCU (end of this section) into the Machine’s
memory, if unsure, call service for correct list.
Chapter 11: Initialization 11-5

6. Turn OFF the Main Power and continue to the next step.

PARTIAL Initialization (A partial initialization would start from this point… otherwise, continue on.)
7. On DSW1 turn ON 1,5,6,7, and turn OFF 2,3,4,& 8.

(OLD STYLE – 2, 3, 4, 8 ON)

8. Turn ON main power and let the controller boot up.

9. Initialize internal memory of all new machines only, as older machine you may have setups that you want to keep,
since this will delete all of your setups. On page 13-B enter Keyword “INMEMORY” at the IN. memory init. location.

10. Set Time and Date on page 13-B(system 1).

11. Turn the main power OFF. If you here a “CHIRP”, your doing O.K.

12. On DSW1 turn ON bits 1,5, & 6 and turn OFF 2,3,4,7, & 8.
(OLD STYLE – 3, 4, 8 ON)

13. Turn ON main power and let the controller boot up.

14. Turn the main power OFF.

15. On DSW1 turn all bits OFF.

16. Turn the main power ON and let the controller boot up.
Chapter 11: Initialization 11-6

17. Go back to screen 13-F (keyword)

• Enter the Keyword “KISYUSEI” NOTE: If this step isn’t performed, the machine size will still be listed in metric
tons.
• Set the Machine Type, Serial number, and Frequency …again.

18. Go to screen 13F and enter the Keyword “OPSWITCH”

• Turn FIG. MOLD SET to (0) or OFF.
• Power off and then on. If this is not done, the machine will only move in Mold Set mode.

THE PROCEDURE IS FINISHED.
