In the past, shopping was a routine domestic task. Many people

nowadays regard it as a hobby. To what extent do you think this is
a positive trend?

In recent years, shopping is an important task, which helps to acquire goods for daily
consumption and other needs. While in the past, it was a necessary work, currently it has
become a favorite hobby of many people around the world. However, in my opinion, while I
believe shopping grants vivid benefits for the economy and enrich customer satisfaction, I agree
with above statement and my opinion will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs with
controversial conclusion.
Firstly, families in the past shopped only for essentials and their needs were limited. The reason
behind that, they have prepared their needs by themselves such as foods and clothes.
Nowadays, people live with busy schedule period due to their work and they tend to visit shops
to release their stress. There are massive shopping malls and super markets to attract
customers. For instance, there are colorful fashion items such as handbags, clothes, foot wears,
ornaments and various food items. Most of young generation keen on shopping since they have
bunch of needs for daily basis and they always satisfy with the service of these shops. On the
one hand shopping boost the economy of the country while people buying many products. In
2021, Sri Lanka economic growth has increased 2.2% and it will be increased as 3.5% in 2025 as
per economic scientists.
On the other hand shopping is now considered as wasting time and losing money. Nowadays
people tend to window-shopping and pass their time without any reason. Moreover, they lose
their money at the end of the month by spending many unnecessary essentials. As a result,
people are requested personal loans for their needs and personal requested loans have
increased 2.3% in my country.
In conclusion, I believe shopping create pros and cons for the society. However shopping is a
great hobby to overcome the stress and anxiety of the people as well as the development of
economy.
The two maps below show an island, before and after the construction of some
tourist facilities.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and
make comparisons where relevant.

The two maps illustrate the layout of an Island before and after certain infrastructural
developments.

Overall, Island has been transformed into a tourist attraction with vivid amenities where
people can accommodate, nourishment, relax, fun and games. Before the
improvements, this Island is approximately 250 meters along with a beach in the west. It
only had palm trees in east and west ends.

Moving to the second map, there are massive buildings in the Island with two
accommodation areas and footpaths in the center and west path of the Island
respectively. Between them, there is a restaurant in the north and reception in the
central, which is surrounded by vehicle track. This track connects with the footpath west
of it and extends northward to the restaurant and southward to the pier where people
can enjoy with sailboats in the Island. In addition, people can go for swimming near the
beach in the west where it brings out peaceful and relaxation destination.

Comparing two maps, there can be seen massive improvements after the development.
The Island has been constructed with vivid amenities by using coast and natural
environment and it has transformed to a tourist friendly paradise where people can have
a change of their daily routing life.

In some countries, more people are becoming interested in

finding out about the history of the house they live In. What are
the reasons for this? How can people research this?

Nowadays, people are becoming interested in knowing historical background of the house that they live
in. In my opinion, possible reasons of getting information are safety and value and the practical ways of
obtaining this information are documentation and verbal communication. This essay will discuss my
opinion including causes and appropriate research process in upcoming paragraphs with controversial
conclusion.

Firstly, safety has become a major issue in every society and people are keen on finding out the security
in the area before they live in. There might be unsuitable neighbors with full of robbers around the
house and knowing the background is helpful to get an ideal house. Secondly, value is another reason to
seek past background of the house. There can be seen valuable properties with fully furnished houses,
which have built long years ago. Some rich people prefer to buy those houses by spending more money
due to traditional value. For instance, the last survey conducted by The Mazz magazine showed that 48
percent of residents in US desire to gain the knowledge of their living slots if the place was critically
important in the past.

On the other hand, possible resources assist to find out the new data of the history of the house and
there are several options for research. Firstly, it is quite helpful to get legal documents of the property
through land department. It can be proven the accuracy and accountability of the property. As a
consequence, The World Bank has been announced that population between 30 to 55 years of people
are keen on finding the legacy of documents before they own a house and it is increased as 2.3% in
2022. Secondly, people depend on verbal communication and they thoroughly believe others experience
and opinions before buying a house.
In conclusion, safety and value can influence to seek historical background of the house where people
live in. However, this can be rectify by going through legal documentation and verbal communication in
the society.

The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between
1940 and 2040 in three different countries.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant.

This graph illustrates the increase of ageing population in Japan, Sweden and USA between 1940 and
2040, which is 65 years, and over.

Overall, this graph depicts the proportion of elderly people in all three countries and they are expected
to rise 25% of population respectively in 2040.

In 1940, the proportion of elders 65 or above were placed only 5% in Japan, approximately 7% in
Sweden and 9% in USA. However, USA and Sweden figures have been risen dramatically in 1990, which
is 15% each. In addition, Japan had a significant plunge in this period, which is 3%. In 1995, Sweden
started to rise and surpass USA. It has rapidly surged as 20% of the population in 2010 and USA has
remained steady proportion between 1990 and 2015 as 13%.

From about 2017, USA expects to see an exponential growth in their population as 23% in 2040.
Sweden’s ratio will decrease slightly as 13% until 2025. Japan expects a sharp growth on 2025 and it will
overcome Sweden and USA stats (25%). In 2040, Japan might be a dramatic surge proportion of elder
population, which is 27% and it will bring out a significant ratio among other countries.

In some countries, owning a home rather than renting one is very

important for people. Why might this be the case ? Do you think
this a positive or negative situation ?

There are different trends in the society and some conservative opinions have risen among people,
which owns a home is an important rather than renting. In my opinion, the possible causes are
investment and personal satisfaction and positives are legacy and freedom. I believe above statement as
positive vibe and it will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs with a controversial conclusion.

On the one hand, there are several reasons for own a house rather than renting. Among of these causes,
investment is a major key in the society. In this situation, purchasing or building an own house will be
kept as savings for future. By the way, people have to give monthly payment if they rent a house and
they will be lose their money and no savings once they left the house. At this point, people tend to
purchase an own home. For instance, the Mazz magazine in USA has conducted a survey in 2021 and it is
shown a rapid surge of purchasing a house as 52% of total population. Personal satisfaction is another
cause for buying a home rather than staying in a rent house. People can prioritize and customize their
needs when buying a house such as space, parking, and peaceful environment. When renting a house
might not fulfill own needs.

On the other hand, I consider it being a positive development because it rectify the legacy of the
property. Nowadays, people are keen on finding the accountability and accuracy of their property rather
than finding someone property due to fake documents. As an example, National Municipal Council in Sri
Lanka presents the status of approved housing plans have been increased as 25% in 2022. In addition,
people tend to live with freedom with their loved once and enjoy life. People have to limit their freedom
in a rent house since they should live according to rules and regulations of the owner.

In conclusion, it can be said, that purchasing a house brings out many positive notions rather than
renting a house with less drawbacks.

Question: The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in
billions) of telephone call in the UK, divided into three categories,
from 1995-2002.

Summarise the information by selecting a reporting the main

features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The chart displays total call duration by categories from 1995 to 2002.

Overall, telephone calls are categorized as local, national and international (fixed line) and
mobiles. It is shown the status of common calls during the 7-year period.

Approximately, 75 billion minutes were spent on fixed-line in local calls in 1995. This number
had a rapid surge with 90 billion minutes in 1999. However, local fixed-line calls have been
declined from 2000 and these calls had fallen back to the 1995 figure by 2002 as 75 billion
minutes. In fact, these type of calls were more common than other two types throughout the
entire period.

National and international calls were made the second biggest category among the calls. It can be
seen steady increase from 35 to 60 billion minutes over the period. Moreover, Mobiles calls can
be seen as a slowly growth during the period. In 1995, it were made 5 billion minutes and it was
rose slowly as 9 billion minutes in 1998. Furthermore, it has been scored as 45 billion minutes in
2002. Even though, mobile calls were the least common calls over the period, national and
international calls and mobile calls had been narrowed by the end of the period.
Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a
compulsory part of high school programmers (for example
working for a charity, improving the neighborhood, or teaching
sports to younger children). To what extent do you agree or
disagree?

Nowadays, some people believe high schools should provide beyond academic knowledge, promoting
student’s life adaptability through soft skills developing. However, in my opinion, while I believe, I
disagree for the above statement due to real value of the education might be disappeared and it will be
distracted for students while they are working in community services. The above opinions will be
discussed in upcoming paragraphs with a controversial conclusion.

On the one hand, higher education is the key point to decide the future of young generation. By doing
charity services in that age, students might be lost their valuable time of the education. Moreover, it will
affect their career as well. For instance, the University of Colombo has been done a survey for medical
students and it is shown 75% of medical students in 2021 had been allocated 20 hours per day for their
studies. It will rectify how time important for higher schools students. In addition, students might be
distracted for education while they are doing another support services such as teaching younger
students and voluntary activities. While doing these services, students have some extra responsibility on
their hand and they should give their support in every time. It will mainly effect their education since
they are unable to focus only for their studies.

On the other hand, there are some positive thoughts by volunteering in high schools. It promotes the
development of professional skills by participating these activities. It is considered a great way to gain
necessary experience in different fields and students might be socialized by communicating vivid social
backgrounds. As consequences, national youth ministry has been announced in a survey, 65% of high
school students have been involved with different voluntary units in 2021.

To conclude, even though higher participation in voluntary activities in high school students, I am firmly
convinced that students should give priority for their higher education. Otherwise, they will lose their
valuable time and their education might be distracted
