Visual Checks Operational Checks
1. Look for surface damage. 1. Power up and power disconnect.
This includes: Turn the vehicle on. Check for:
Dents and cracks Working indicator lights
Warped or broken parts Working alarms
Rust and other surface damage Full electrical power cut-off when turned off
Hydraulic hoses & mast chains
2. Check guards, chains, cables, hoses. 2. Test steering.
This includes: There should be:
Hydraulic hoses No binding
Finger guards Drive control (forward and reverse)
Mast chains (NOTE: Do not place hands inside mast) Tilt control (forward and back)
Frayed cables & connectors or exposed wires Inch control (if equipped)
3. Inspect the forks. 3. Check brakes and travel controls.
Look for: Check:
Bending (angle should be less than 93 degrees) Braking and plugging distances while traveling
Excessive wear slowly and then quickly
Check the top clip retaining pin and heel Acceleration (should be smooth, not jerky)
Check load backrest extension Foot & parking brakes (listen for noises)
4. Inspect the tires. 4. Test electrical safety features.
Look for: This includes:
Cuts or gouges Horn
Missing rubber chunks Flashing lights/indicator lights
Excessive wear (rubber worn down to the indicated Entry bar
wear line on the side of the tire) Back-up alarm (if equipped)
5. Inspect mechanical safety features. 5. Test all hydraulic functions.
Make sure: Check for:
Safety decals and nameplates are in place and legible Smooth operation
Nameplate information matches model & serial numbers Unusual noises
The operator manual is in the truck & legible Attachment control
Seat belt is working properly
6. Check fluid levels. 6. Check limit switches.
This includes:
Check oil, water, and hydraulic fluid levels
Travel limit
Look for leaks
Lift limit
Tilt limit
Safety reverse
7. Additional checks for electric 7. Check battery charge.
forklifts: Battery should be fully charged or 75% charge
Battery restraints after raising forks
Battery condition
Electrolyte levels (wear PPE when checking)
Hood latch MAINTENANCE NOTES:

Radiator
Hood latch
Propane tanks (properly mounted & undamaged)
