Christian Booksellers Association Holds Second Convention At the speakers’ table which ended the second convention of the Christian Booksellers Association were (left to right): Mrs. William F. Penney, featured speaker at the banquet; and Al Smith, Singspiration, Inc., toastmaster (PW recently received photographs and de- tails of the second convention held by the Christian Booksellers Association in Chicago in June and is pleased to publish the fol- lowing account.) The convention, which took place at the La Salle Hotel in Chicago June 27-29 (PW, June 23), “laid the foundation for a pro- gram of real service to Christian booksellers throughout the United States and Canada,” reports Don Norman, vice-president of the CBA and executive secretary of the Chicago Bible Society. Approximately 500 people, from all sections of the United States and Canada, were in attendance, and 66 pub- lishers and suppliers exhibited their latest lines. William F. Moore, Moody Press Book- stores, Chicago, was re-elected president. Other officers, in addition to Mr. Norman, are: Dale B. Johnson, Bible Book Center, South Bend, Indiana, secretary; and John Fish, Scripture Press, Chicago, treasurer. The directors of the CBA are Dorothy Ave- 622 rill, Fellowship Bookstore, Boston, Mass.; Mrs. Lizeta Macaulay, Macaulay’s Book- store, River Edge, N.J.; Mrs. J. Phillips, Gospel Bookstore, Greensboro, N.C.; Rev. Paul Miller, Paul’s, Grove City, Pa.; Louise Deimel, Western Book and Tract, Oakland, California; Pauline Ramseyer, Northern Bible Society, Duluth, Minn.; and Hugh Hull, Hull Publishing Company, Winnipeg, Canada. Publishers present organized an advisory council, with S. M. McKeon, W. H. Dietz & Co., serving as chairman, Wilbur Davies, Fleming H. Revell Co., vice-chairman, and Joe Herbert, National Bible Company, secre- tary. Winners in the essay contest on “How the CBA Can Help the Christian Book Trade in General and My Store in Particular” were: Elmer Sawatsky, M. B. Publishing House, Hillsboro, Kansas, first prize of $20; Hugh Hull, Hull Publishing Company, Win- nipeg, Canada, second prize of $10; and Katherine Thorne, Good News Gift Shop, Perry, New York, third prize of $5.
