1 This document is issued for protection functions and related settings as per the scope of work. The configuration of BO, BI,
LEDs, CFC logic and settings such as CT star points, breaker residual currents, etc, shall be prepared at site as per actual
approved/wiring documents.

2 CT starpoint towards the protected object has been considered for all the protection CT cores. The same to be checked and
verified at site, if any deviations are found, then the starpoint has to be made towards the protected object (physical wiring)
as per schematics/standards.

3 The coordination of the Overcurrent & Earth fault protection settings provided only for 13.8kV Switchgear only. The
respective LV Switchgears are not covered in this document.

472.3A.

Single phase fault current at secondary, = Ifault/NCT ratio

= ((26200*1)/200)
= 131.00 A
= (131/0.8)
I/Ip = 163.75 A

Since the single phase fault current is more than 20 times, hence the PSM (I/Ip) choosen is 20.

Fault current at primary @ 20 PSM = (20*Pickup setting of relay*NCT primary current)

= (20*0.8*200)
= 3200 A

e) Time Multiplier Setting (TMS):

The time multiplier setting is calculated based on IEC S Inverse curve formula provided as below, The calculated
time dial as follows,

51N Time multiplier = ((T)/((0.14)/((I/Is)^0.02-1)+0))

= ((0.2)/((0.14)/((20)^0.02-1)+0))
= 0.09

10.02.02 Setting calculations for overcurrent protection - Low stage - 51P-1

a) Pickup criteria: = 100 - 130% of FLC of the feeder

130% of load current is considered for = (1.3*174.96)
calculation, Iload = 227.45 A
CT secondary current = Iload/CT ratio
= ((227.45*1)/600)
= 0.38 A
= (0.38/1)
51 pickup setting in the relay, = 0.38 xIn

b) Time current characteristic curves selection:

The current/time tripping characteristics of IDMT relays may need to be varied according to the tripping time
required and the characteristics of other protection devices used in the network.

The proposed characteristic curve is = 9=IEC Normal Inverse

c) Operating time calculation:

Downstream relay operating time = 0.00 sec
Discriminative time margin required = 0.20 sec (As per IEEE std.242-2001)
Hence, total operating time required for this feede = 0.20 sec

d) Fault current analysis/PSM calculation:

As per the ETAP Short Circuit SLD (Refer annexure-1), the Rated voltage at primary side drive through the
feeder is 6.6A.

Three phase fault current at secondary, = Ifault/CT ratio

= ((1091*1)/600)
= 1.82 A
= (1.82/0.38)
I/Ip = 4.79 A
Since the three phase fault current is more than 20 times, hence the PSM choosen is 20.
Fault current at primary @ 20 PSM = (20*Pickup setting of relay*CT primary current)
= (20*0.38*600)
= 4560.00 A

e) Time Multiplier Setting (TMS):

The time multiplier setting is calculated based on curve formula provided as below, The calculated time dial as
follows,

= ((T)/((0.14)/((I/Ip)^0.02-1)+0))
= (0.2*(((4.79)^0.02)-1)/(((1.032-1)*0)+0.14))
51 Time Dial = 0.05

10.02.03 Setting calculations for ground-fault protection - Low stage - 51N

a) Pickup criteria: = 10 - 40% of CT primary current

10% of CT primary current is considered for = (0.1*600)
calculation, Iload = 60.00 A
CT secondary current = Iload/CT ratio
= ((60*1)/600)
= 0.100 A
= (0.1/1)
51N pickup setting in the relay, = 0.100 xIn

b) Time current characteristic curves selection:

The current/time tripping characteristics of IDMT relays may need to be varied according to the tripping time
required and the characteristics of other protection devices used in the network.

The proposed characteristic curve is = 9=IEC Normal Inverse

c) Operating time calculation:

Downstream relay operating time = 0.00 sec (Assumed)
Discriminative time margin required = 0.20 sec (Refer annexure-2)
Hence, total operating time required for this feede = 0.20 sec

d) Fault current analysis/PSM calculation:

As per the ETAP Short Circuit SLD (Refer annexure-1), Single phase fault current drive through the Transformer
feeder-1 PNL No:2 feeder is 21178A.

Single phase Fault current at secondary, = Ifault/CT ratio

= ((21178*1)/600)
= 35.30 A
= (35.3/0.1)
I/Ip = 353.00 A

Since the single phase fault current is more than 20 times, hence the PSM choosen is 20.

Fault current at primary @ 20 PSM = (20*Pickup setting of relay*CT primary current)

= (20*0.1*600)
= 1200.00 A

e) Time Multiplier Setting (TMS):

With respect to the 9=IEC Normal Inverse curve and above mentioned fault current as per ETAP study, The
calculated time dial as follows,

= ((T)/((0.14)/((I/Ip)^0.02-1)+0))

Doc. no: ICE-DP-21017-RSC-001;

51N Time Dial = 0.09

10.02.04 Setting calculations for overcurrent protection - High stage - 50P-1

a) Pickup criteria:
The pickup is decided based on the maximum current from the two cases is described below,
Case: 1 Reflected fault current = 1091.00 A
Case: 2 11 times of inrush current is consider = 1924.56 A
From the above two cases, Case:2 is greather than Case:1. Hence the maximum current is calculated for 50 Pickup,

1.5 Times of maximum current is considered for = (1.5*1924.56)

50 Pickup = 2886.84 A
CT secondary current, = Iload/CT ratio
= ((2886.84*1)/600)
= 4.82 A
Phase fault, 50P-1 Pickup; Secondary = (4.82/1)
50P-1 pickup setting in the relay, = 4.82 xIn

b) Time current characteristic curves selection:

The proposed characteristic curve is = DT

c) Operating time calculation:

Downstream relay operating time = 0.00 sec
Discriminative time margin required = 0.10 sec
Hence, total operating time required for this feede = 0.10 sec

10.02.05 Setting calculations for ground-fault protection - High stage - 50N-1

a) Pickup criteria: = 2 - 10 times of CT primary current

Single phase fault current = 21178 A

1.5 times of CT Primary current is considered for = (1.5*600)

calculation = 900.00 A
CT secondary current, = Iload/CT ratio
= (900*1)/(600)
= 1.50 A
Ground Fault, 50N Pickup; Secondary = (1.5/1)

10.01.02 Setting calculations for overcurrent protection - Low stage - 51P-1

a) Pickup criteria: = 100 - 130% of FLC of the feeder

110% of load current is considered for = (1.1*777.91)
calculation, = 855.70 A
CT secondary current = Iload/CT ratio
= ((855.7*1)/1250)
= 0.69 A
= (0.69/1)
51 pickup setting in the relay, = 0.69 xIn

b) Time current characteristic curves selection:

The current/time tripping characteristics of IDMT relays may need to be varied according to the tripping time
required and the characteristics of downstream protection devices used in the network.

The proposed characteristic curve is = 9=IEC Normal Inverse

c) Operating time calculation:

Downstream relay operating time = #REF!
Discriminative time margin required = 0.20 sec (As per IEEE std.242-2001)
Hence, total operating time required = #REF!

d) Fault current analysis/PSM calculation:

As per the ETAP Short Circuit SLD (Refer annexure-1), the Three phase fault current drive through the Incomer
feeder-1 PNL No:7 (From New UG S/S) feeder is 20799A.

Three phase fault current at secondary, = Ifault/CT ratio

= ((20799*1)/1250)
= 16.64 A
= (16.64/0.69)
I/Ip = 24.12 A

Since the three phase fault current is more than 20 times, hence the PSM choosen is 20.

Fault current at primary @ 20 PSM = (20*Pickup setting of relay*CT primary current)

= (20*0.69*1250)
= 17250 A

e) Time Multiplier Setting (TMS):

The time multiplier setting is calculated based on 9=IEC Normal Inverse curve formula provided as below, The
calculated time dial as follows,

51P-1 Time Dial = ((T)/((0.14)/((I/Ip)^0.02-1)+0))

feeder-1 PNL No:7 (From New UG S/S) feeder is 21465A.

Single phase Fault current at secondary, = Ifault/CT ratio

= ((21465*1)/1250)
= 17.17 A
= (17.17/0.2)
I/Ip = 85.85 A

Since the single phase fault current is more than 20 times, hence the PSM choosen is 20.

Fault current at primary @ 20 PSM = (20*Pickup setting of relay*CT primary current)

= (20*0.2*1250)
