Activity 1

PROCESS QUESTIONS
1. What is the latest disaster /emergency situation you
have witnessed?
 The latest disaster/emergency situation I have
witnessed is the storm Maring that happened
last year in October 2021. Many things were
destroyed or ruined, and many people died. We
were just lucky that time. We didn’t crash into
a big tree that was falling, but we didn’t realize
it. We did hear some sounds and tried to figure
it out, but we just found that maybe it’s from
the fruit of the tree, so we stopped figuring it
out. Early in the morning, the big tree fell and
landed on the other side of the little river, and
its roots crashed into the side of the cave of
the laying hen.

2. Who were the responders?

 The responders were ate’s closest workers,
who were willing to help and the people paid
by ate to back them up.
3. What did the responders do?
> The first thing the responders did was to cut the
tree, which had landed on the other side, so that the
flow of water was straight because of its structure.
It’s been a hindrance and the water finds a way, which
is the cause of the crack in the canal and so on. Then
to cut the other tree and transport it to a temporary
location because there was no action in Barangay
Bitalag even though it was already reported.Next is to
help clean the surroundings of the house and also to
see the wires where lightning struck the house and
the poultry.

Activity 2

What is the legislative background of NSRC?

Instruction: Based on your experience as a citizen and specifically as a student, answer the
questions below

1.What is the meaning of the saying “A good fence makes good neighbors”?

> The saying “a good fence makes good neighbors” means that people should mind
their own business and respect the privacy of others so that relations between
neighbors do not cause such an action or conflict or misunderstood and they remain
amiable and good. A little hate and love mingled here and there, but communication
is ultimately about getting to know each other. Everyone benefits from a fence,
including the neighbors, because it begins with meddling in someone else’s thing or
something, and then levels up to you.

2.How does the school create volunteerism?

> The school creates volunteerism from the people who want to join or be part of the
school, and it does create volunteerism because they are not forced to naturally.
School is provided for everyone who is willing to attend.

3.What are the urgent challenges faced by the school at the moment (cite at least 2)

> The most urgent challenges faced by the school at the moment are the pandemic

ACTIVITY 4

PROCESS QUESTIONS
1.Describe the organizational structure of ISPSC including the officers hierarchy.

>

The organizational structure, including the hierarchy of officers, is led first by the highest
position to the lowest position. Those are composed of a chain of command linking various
management levels within the organization, which is essential for it to function. It depends on
having various levels of authority.Organizational decision-making takes place in a formal and
top-down environment. As a result, there are distinct lines of authority and accountability for
each level of management in the towering organizational structure that is created. The structure
becomes more complex and taller as the organization expands. Within the organization, the
responsibilities that employees play and how they interact with one another are both clearly
defined.

2.Identify the activities of ISPSC vis-à-vis the functions of NSRC..

> CBNRUS (Community-Based NSRC Reservist Units) will be established at the barangay,
municipal city, and Provincial levels. Members must be graduates of the CWTS and LTS
components of the NSTP and residents of their respective communities. The concerned LGUs,
in collaboration with DILG and CCD, shall organize CBNRUS through the LDRRMCs. The OCD,
through the Local DRRMCS, shall issue the Activation Orders for the CBNRUS.
3.Discuss the process of recruitment, selection and sanctions of members.

>Recruitment and selection is part of a multi-layered process. Recruitment involves actively

seeking out and advertising to potential candidates and obtaining their interest in the position.
Selection refers to the process of determining the best candidate from the pool of applicants.

The process of recruitment involves the development of suitable techniques for attracting more
candidates to a position vacancy, while the process of selection involves identifying the most
suitable candidate for the vacancy. Recruitment precedes the selection process, and the
selection process is only completed when a job offer is created and given to the selected
candidate by appointment letter.

For the recruitment process to be effective, the needs of the organization need to be matched
with the needs of the applicant. Similarly, a properly conducted selection process means the
right personnel will join an organization’s workforce, helping management in strengthening the
team and completing the work successfully. Therefore, understanding the distinction between
recruitment and selection is a necessity in any organization’s onboarding process.

Recognizing the importance in these two distinct phases, the first being proper scouting and
advertising of attracting the appropriate candidates, and the second being effective methods of
narrowing down the applicant pool to one ideal candidate, will ultimately be what improves your
organization’s onboarding process. And, with a strong and effective onboarding process, you
will be able to construct a workforce of which every individual aligns perfectly with your
organization’s goals for success.

Code of Conduct Sanctions for Members

 Organizations have a Code of Conduct for chapters to hold members accountable. This
resource is intended to assist chapter leadership in thinking through meaningful
sanctions.Sanctions resulting from a Code of Conduct are meant to help members from
their decisions and reflect on what they want to get out of the fraternity/sorority
experience. Sanctions depend upon the circumstances of each incident and may be
assigned singly or in combination,as appropriate for the circumstances.

The goal of a sanction is to allow a member to learn, to understand and to return better able to
contribute to the life of the chapter. Sanctions should be proportionate to the nature of the
violation and harm caused.Officers leading this process will be better equipped if they are
knowledgeable and aware of campus and community resources, as well as resources of the
national/international organization.Below are some factors to consider in determining
appropriate sanctions:

 The nature of the violation

 A member’s level of involvement in the violation

 Actual harm caused by the behavior or the potential

 Risk of harm

 The member’s intent

 The impact on the chapter or community or environment

 The severity and pervasiveness of the behavior

 The member’s demonstrated understanding and sincere remorse

 The member’s level of cooperation and compliance

 The level of success of prior interventions

 When recommending sanctions, try to think of ones that will:

- Be appropriate for the conduct incident and action

Be meaningful

- Provide an educational experience

- Assist the member in understanding and accepting

- The consequences of personal actions and decisions

- Give the member an opportunity to give back to the community

- Uphold the safety of the chapter and community

4. What are the necessary trainings needed by NSRC reservists?

The necessary training needed by NSRC reservists is to undergo periodic training to provide
them with the advanced and special training needed for their respective skills requirements.

1.Who is an NSRC reservist?

> An NSRC reservist is a person who is a graduate of the CWTS and LTS components
of the NSTP program and designated an NSRC serial number.
2.What competencies are needed to become a proactive and functional NSRC?
> To become a proactive and functional NSRC, an individual must have the spirit of
volunteerism and social responsibility within and outside the community where
he/she lives.
3.How can an NSRC reservist contribute to the general welfare of the society?
> An NSRC reservist can contribute to the general welfare of the society by
participating in community programs that is designed to provide excellent service
and substantial benefits to the people of the community such as tree planting, clean-
up drive or coastal clean-ups, providing leadership training, and others.

Strategies for Mobilization

PROCESS QUESTIONS
1.How do you mobilize?
> Report to our respective designated mobilization centers and organize to perform
the duty as disaster responders and other D4RRM tasks.
2. What are the methods of resource mobilization?
> Resource mobilization is the process of getting resources from the resource
provider, using different mechanisms, to implement an organization’s predetermined
goals. It also involves making better use of, and maximizing, existing resources. The
following are the methods of resource mobilization:
 Submitting proposals to a typical donor agency is the most
conventional way of getting support Organizing fundraising events
where you invite guests and request donations for your organization.
 Donation boxes where you request small amounts of money from
public Collecting in-kind contribution such as used clothes, furniture,
books, vehicles or even buildings.
 Volunteer support where volunteers provide their time and resources
to support the work of your organization.
 Income from business-oriented projects of your organization like
selling of publications, offering consultancies, microfinance,
microinsurance or micro-enterprise-based activities.
3.What are the methods of community mobilization?
> Community mobilization is the process of bringing together as many stakeholders
as possible to raise people’s awareness of and demand for a particular programme,
to assist in the delivery of resources and services, and to strengthen the community
participation for sustainability and self-reliance. Through social movement for
mobilizing the people in the community we can apply various methods like large
public gatherings such as mass meetings, marches, parades, processions and
demonstrations.
4. What is mobilization cycle?
> The mobilization cycle is sometimes called “The Community Participation
Promotion Cycle,” or the “Problem Solving Cycle,” or “The Community Development
Cycle,” or “The Social Animation Cycle.”. It is a series of interventions (carried out by
one or more mobilizer) designed to increase the level of involvement of a community
in the decisions that affect its own development.
5. What are the elements of social mobilization?
> The Key elements in social mobilization are:

 partnerships building and networking

 community participation
 media and special events to raise public awareness
 advocacy to mobilize resources and effect policy change

Activity 5

YOUR REASONS :
 My specific learning objectives for this lesson were the legislative background, mission,
and functions of the NSRC; the school-based NSRC units (ISPSC); and strategies of
mobilization. The National Service Training Program should be taken by students at the
tertiary level in the Philippines. As part of the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), in
this civil service course, the emphasis is on improving communal life while also studying
issues pertaining to general welfare.

 By virtue of Republic Act 9163, also known as the National Service Training Program Act
of 2001 or NSTP Act, the National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC) was established. The
NSTP Act required that all graduates of the NSTP’s non-ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training
Corps) component, namely the CWTS and LTS, constitute the NSRC. The Armed Forces
of the Philippines will use ROTC graduates as reserve personnel.

Workbook 6

ACTIVITY 1

What is Climate Change?

 It means the difference in the Earth’s global climate or in regional climates over time. It
is about abnormal variations in the climate and the effects of these variations on other
parts of the Earth.

1.In your conviction, what do you think are the characteristics of a Climate Change
Adaptation and Mitigation?

 The characteristics of climate change adaptation and mitigation are

droughts, rainfall, and floods; heat waves; rise of sea levels; melting glaciers;
and warming oceans .

2. Write them down using the chart below

PROCESS QUESTIONS
1.What were the basis of your answers in the chart?

 The basis of my answer in the chart was the module.

2.Do you experience one of those? Elaborate.

 Yes, I have experienced some of them. It’s natural to feel this way because
we survived those and yet survive them today. It’s naturally happened, and we
are already immune to it. When there is heavy rain, we expect the unexpected
to happen, and this is where the flood will play a role. The most memorable
thing that I’ll never forget is the storm Maring that happened last October,
which I witnessed in Bitalag. I saw, felt, and was scared of that time because
we were just three at the house of our guardian/ate, and we were just teens.
But we are lucky because we survived, but there are so many trees that fell
down, animals died, but our safety is a priority.
3.Which characteristics describe the effects of Climate Change?

 The characteristics describing the effects of climate change were

rainfall, rises in sea level, and droughts.

Outlining Activity:
 Climate change is the result of changing climatic conditions throughout
time.We are the cause of this, struggling as a result of our man-made actions
and lack of accountability for what we do. The characteristics of this climate
change are some of its effects also described.
Severe droughts, storms, heat waves; sea level rise; melting glaciers; and warming
oceans that can directly harm animals, destroy the places they live in, and wreak
havoc on people’s lives and communities.

Activity 2

Effect of climate change

1.Based from activity 1,expound your answers by utilizing the chart below.

2.You are to create certain indicator for each effects of climate change.
PROCESS QUESTIONS
1. Discuss some of your realizations in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
Strategies.
> Energy efficiency benefits not just us personally but also the environment, including
the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the neighborhood where we live.
Saving energy improves the environment for everyone by lowering air and water
pollution and conserving natural resources. Efficacy is also present. Additionally, it
generates employment and financial savings. Energy-efficient buildings and
residences help us get closer to a planet that is healthier and greener. Your reduced
energy use lowers the demand for fossil fuels, which in turn lowers atmospheric
carbon dioxide levels. Renovations to a home's energy efficiency can enhance
ventilation and indoor air quality if done correctly. Upgrades also result in financial
savings. As a result, people with limited incomes may be able to afford health care
and better heat and cool their homes. Contractors can also fix leaks, install smoke
detectors, take care of mold and lead paint removal while they are inside the homes.
Home improvements can thereby enhance occupants' health. While saving
consumers money and providing other benefits, energy efficiency can significantly
reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as other types of pollution, electricity,
heating a home, operating an automobile, and industrial processes. These plants all
produce fuel, energy, and carbon dioxide emissions. Savings equal fewer carbon
emissions. Energy efficiency is essential. For the climate crisis to be resolved,
improvements have been shown to be the most economical approach to combat
climate change, reduce energy waste, save money, and extend the use of renewable
energy sources. Any federal climate policy should include, as a minimum, utility
energy efficiency targets, appliance and vehicle standards, building energy rules, and
land use planning incentives.
2.In what certain, the goal of mitigation avoid significant human interference with the
climate system?
> The goal of mitigation avoid significant human interference with the climate is the
greenhouse gas levels in a timeframe sufficient to allow ecosystems to adapt
naturally to climate change, ensure that food production is not threatened and to
enable economic development to proceed in a sustainable manner.
3.How much would it cost to reverse climate change?
>Maybe it would cost a lot to reverse climate change. It’s a worth of life. Because to
reverse climate change, we need a human who can manage, gives efforts and
sacrifices.

Activity 3

Picture Analysis

PROCESS QUESTIONS
1.In the pictures presented, How could mitigation and adaptation deal with climate
change?
> Mitigation and adaptation deal with climate change; some of the strategies include:
Energy Efficiency, Energy Conservation, LIFESTYLE CHANGE, REFORESTATION, AND
AFFORESTATION CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE (CCS).
2.What is the best way to mitigate climate change?
> The best way to mitigate climate change is to practice energy efficiency, greater
use of renewable energy, electrification of industrial processes, and efficient means
of transport implementation: electric public transport, bicycles, shared
cars, and carbon tax and emissions markets.
3.What are climate change adaptation measures?
>Climate change adaptation measures are based on reducing vulnerability to the
effects of climate change like more secure facility locations and infrastructure,
landscape restoration (natural landscape) and reforestation, flexible and diverse
cultivation to be prepared for natural catastrophes, research and development on
possible catastrophes, temperature behavior, etc.,and preventive and precautionary
measures (evacuation plans, health issues, etc.)
4.What is adaptation and mitigation?
>Adaptation is an adjustment in natural or human systems in response to actual or
expected climatic stimuli or their effects, which moderates harm or exploits
beneficial opportunities.
Mitigation is an intervention to reduce the emissions sources or enhance the sinks
of greenhouse gases.
