4.1 Introductory Activity The teacher will sing a song together with the student entitled “the soil song” with a simple step. This
(3 minutes) song will give an idea about the different types of soil.
The Soil Song
Sand, Silt, and Clay!
Three types of soil,
Where plants do grow,
And worms do toil!
And then there’s loom;
It’s a mix of the three!
And if you ever turn into a plant.
Loom’s where you’d want to be!
The sand in course;
It’s gritty and rough;
Water flows right through
That sandy stuff!
And then there’s loom;
It’s a mix of the three!
And if you ever turn into a plant.
Loom’s where you’d want to be!
The clay is dense
It’s pack real close!
Water doesn’t drain
‘Cause it’s hard to flow
And then there’s loom;
It’s a mix of the three!
And if you ever turn into a plant.
Loom’s where you’d want to be!
Silt is smooth!
It’s very fine!
And nutrient rich,
So plants don’t mind!
It’s inside loom,
Which is a mix of the three!
And if you ever turn into a plant.
Loom’s where you’d want to be!
The students will play “3-6-9” clap. This game will test the students if they have knowledge
about the types of soil.
Instruction:
4.2 Activity 1. The student will say the number 1, 2 and then when it comes to number 3, 6, and 9, the
(10 minutes) student will just clap his/her hands without saying the number.
2. Whoever done it wrong, the student will face a consequence.
3. The consequence is the student will go to the front of the class and the teacher will tell
him/her a word.
4. He/she will write the word using his body.
5. The other students will guess if what is the word, he/she is writing.
1. What is the first word you have guessed?
2. How about the second word you have guessed?
4.3 Analysis 3. What is the last word you have guessed?
(5 minutes) 4. What do you think the words are all about?
Soil plays a vital role in the Earth’s ecosystem. Without soil, human life would be very
difficult and so it is very important to know the different types of soil.
Types of Soil
Sandy Soil – is light, warm, dry and tend to be acidic and low in nutrients. Sandy soils are
often known as light soil due to their high proportion of sand and little clay ( clay weighs
more than sand).
Clay Soil – is heavy soil type that benefits from high nutrients. Clay soils remain wet and cold
in winter and dry in summer.
4.4 Abstraction Silt soil – is a light and moisture retentive soil type with a high fertility rating.
(15 minutes)
Guide Questions:
1. What are the three types of soil?
2. What do you call a soil that is low in nutrients?
3. What soil that remains wet and cold during winter?
4. What soil that has high fertility rating?
5. Why is soil important?
The teacher will divide the class into two groups and will play “Plot Me”. She will prepare a two
graphic organizer and words.
4.5 Application Instruction:
(10 minutes) 1. Each student will pick a word.
2. He/she will then put word into its corresponding place on the graphic organizer.
3. The next player will do the same until they will finish putting all the words on the organizer.
4. The team who would done it first will be the winner.
1. Enumerate the three types of soil.
4.6 Assessment
2. Describe each of the soil.
(5 minutes)
3. Give the importance of knowing the types of soil.
4.7 Assignment
Each student will bring a little amount of any types of soil.
(2 minutes)
4.8 Concluding Activity
Select the best soil for it gives life to plants.
