The nominal diameter of penetration probe is 35.7 mm;
The friction area of penetration probe is 150 cm2
The angle at the top of the cone is 60 degrees.
STANDART PENETRATION TEST (SPT)
In order to study the physical and mechanical properties of soils
under natural conditions in wells, a soil test is performed using
dynamic sensing (SРТ). Technical data of SPT equipment consist of
the following:
• Sampler, versed in length, m 0,73
• Hammer weight, kg 63,5
• Hammer free fall height, m 0,75
For SPT tests, the assembly is planned: a hammer, special
penetration rods, a cone. The bars show 150 mm intervals.
Hammer weighing 63.5 kg is raised to a height of 0.75 m with a
winch and percussions are done. The number of beats per 150 mm
is counted and recorded in the log. If for 50 impacts the cone does
not penetrate the rock by 150 mm, the equipment is pulled out and
this interval is drilled. Then the testing continues.
This process continues to the design depth. At the end of testing,
the equipment is lifted from the well and well is being filled up. Test
data is interpreted by a special software.

PRESSUREMETER TEST
By use of TRİ-MOD-S model of the Rock Test company, the modulus
of deformation of dispersed and hard rocks to a depth of 50 m is
determined. In the process of engineering and geological research, it is of
great importance to determine the modulus of rock deformation under
natural setting. Relatively accurate method of studying the modulus of
deformation is static plate load test. To conduct static plate load test
heavy and large-scaled constructions and equipment are required. In
particular, if the works are carried out at large depths, it becomes
necessary to drill holes and excavations, which is time and cost
consuming. For this reason, determination of soil deformation modulus by
use of pressuremeter is considered to be a more efficient method.
With the help of the pressuremeter method, deformation of the soils along
boreholes walls is studied. To study the lateral pressure by
pressuremeter, a cylindrical chamber with an elastic wall is used. Through
positioning the device in the study interval and creating a fluid pressure
(hydraulic pressuremeter) or a gas pressure (pneumatic pressuremeter),
rocks adjacent to the walls of the well are compressed.
“Vane penetrometer"
“Vane penetrometer" is a motorized device for high-speed test of strength of the
communicating soils. The experiment done by vane penetrometer is carried out by
measuring the minimum torque required for rotation and insertion into the ground
of a standard impeller. Size of impeller 250 kPa can be selected according to the
expected moment created up to the equivalent of the resistance to sliding of wet
ground.
The resistance to sliding of wet soil is related to the moment measured on the
basis of impeller size and spring strength of vane penetrometer.
Plate Load Test
Static plate load tests meeting the international standards of
Russia (GOST), Great Britain (BS), the USA (ASTM), are
conducted to determine the following properties of core
deformation:
- The deformation module of roughly coarse, shaly and
organic mineral soils
- Sedimentation properties of shaly soils by soaking
method
Point load test
Before the experiment After experiment
Point-load method gives a point vertical load to the ground
to evaluate the critical limit of deformation.
Piezometers (groundwater level control)
The device measures hydrogeological parameters in aquifers. A Observations of the Control of pressure in an
distinctive feature is the possibility of monitoring the change in groundwater level in a isolated water horizon
pressure in isolated aquifers. The use of piezometers allows to pressure less piezometer
measure the piezometric level at the filter mounting point.
Device is used:
• to monitor variations of hydrostatic pressure and gradient
during the construction and operation of complex engineering
facilities;
• to monitor variations of hydrogeological parameters during
experimental filtration works.
Measurements make it possible to assess the effectiveness
of anti-filtration measures and assist in design of hydro-
geodynamic models.
Laboratory tests of soil and water samples
Latest equipment is used for evaluation of physical and technical properties of soils and for studies of chemical composition of water and
the extract of ground water. Geotechnical laboratory of GB company "ELE International" develops equipment of a high accuracy and
includes the following:
- Equipment for studies of physical properties of soil samples
- Compression device of electronic system for evaluation of compressibility of soils
-A triaxle device for determining of soils deformation (adhesion, angle of internal friction, modulus of deformation, coefficient of
consolidation).
- Electronic equipment for determining of shear resistance.
- Motorized impeller
The laboratory specialists with assistance of latest equipment determine the physical and mechanical properties of disturbed and
undisturbed soils: classification tests, compression, triaxle tests, consolidation tests, and chemical analysis of soils and water. The
laboratory uses equipment for evaluation of "California coefficient" (CBR), consolidation of soils, soil permeability, soil resistance to shear,
triaxle compression, etc.
- Laboratory tests allow to evaluate moisture, density, bulk density, porosity, porosity coefficient, moisture content, sand density in
loose and dense state, plasticity, structural strength, consistency, sensitivity, granulometric composition, filtration coefficient.
-Indicators of the mechanical characteristics of soils (deformation and strength properties), compressibility, subsidence, shear
resistance, triaxle compression, uniaxial compression, swelling (swelling pressure), shrinkage.
On a triaxle device manufactured by GB company "ELE International" an undrained-unconsolidated, drained-unconsolidated,
drained-consolidated tests according to GOST, BS, ASTM standards are conducted.
The parameters (Av, Mv, Cc, Cv) for BS and ASTM are also evaluated. The cut-off device manufactured by "ELE International" provides
experiments to determine the shear resistance according to BS and ASTM. Tests are conducted (on a consolidated-drained, as well as
unconsolidated - undrained method) on shaly-sandy soils to determine strength parameters. ( С).
