Course Description:
Algebra I is the first course in a sequence of three required high school courses designed
to ensure career and college readiness. The course represents a discrete study of algebra with
correlated statistics applications.
The standards in the three-course high school sequence specify the mathematics that all
students should study in order to be college and career ready. Algebra I is a rigorous course and
will require daily diligence by students on assignments and in class performance tasks.

Topics:
• Relationships Between Quantities and Expressions
• Reasoning with Linear Equations and Inequalities
• Modeling and Analyzing Quadratic Functions
• Modeling and Analyzing Exponential Functions
• Comparing and Contrasting Functions
• Describing Data

Supplies:
• Spiral or Composition Notebook
• College ruled paper
• 1 in. Binder
• Pencils and erasers
• Colored pencils are encouraged
• Calculator: Students are encouraged to buy the TI-36X Pro to be successful in this course.
The TI-36 can be purchased for $24 using the QR code. Select Math to purchase a calculator.

Grading Policy:
Grades will be based on the following:
• 79% Summative, this includes unit tests and the constructions project.
• 21% Formative, this includes classwork and quizzes.
• 20% of final grade will come from the Georgia Milestone, a state cumulative exam given at
the end of the semester.

Tutoring: Scheduled as needed during mornings or afternoons. All students are encouraged to
seek help as needed.
Mastery Plan:
Academic success and proficiency of standards are goals set forth for all students. Given that
individuals learn in different ways and at different rates, our GSE Math Mastery Plan will
provide the necessary support to achieve such goals. Algebra 1 students will be allowed to
recover all summative assessments.

Attendance and makeup work:

Attendance is an extremely important part of this class. No assignments will be accepted late
unless discussed with me. Any grades submitted late or not turned in will result in a zero if they
did not make prior arrangements with me. If you have an excused absence, it is up to you to
make arrangements with me within three days to make up work missed caused by an absence.
Some work is impossible to make up by its nature. An alternative assignment will be assigned in
this case.

Class Expectations:
• Be prepared. You will bring your materials to class everyday (paper, pencil, notebook,
textbook, calculator, etc.) and that you will do your homework and study for quizzes and
tests.
• Be involved. You will participate in class, attempt to do the class work, ask questions when
confused, and try to help your classmates understand the material when appropriate.
• Be courteous. You will treat your instructors and classmates like you want them to treat you.
Don’t talk when it is not appropriate. Don’t sleep. Don’t get out of your desk when it is not
appropriate. Don’t work on other class work. Don’t access your cell phone. Don’t play games
on your calculator. Don’t use power outlets.

Academic Honesty:
Students are expected to complete their work independently unless otherwise noted. Academic
dishonesty includes: copying or sharing homework, communicating during a test or quiz, looking
at someone else’s work or allowing them to look on yours, having a cellphone out during a test
or quiz, and sharing a calculator.
Consequences for academic dishonesty may include:
1. Warning and an alternative assignment
2. Call to parents or guardian
3. Receiving a zero on the assignment
4. Administrative Referral

Parent Responsibilities: Grades will be updated weekly on infinite campus.
