Yield Line Theory Solved Examples III (EFM) : Almustaqbal University College

This document contains 27 examples of using yield line analysis to determine the ultimate resisting moment per linear meter (m) of reinforced concrete slabs under different loading conditions. The examples cover slabs with various shapes including hexagonal, octagonal, triangular, and rectangular, as well as simply supported, fixed, and isotropic reinforced slabs subjected to uniformly distributed loads, concentrated loads, and line loads. Step-by-step solutions demonstrate calculating the external work done by loads and internal work done by moments to determine the ultimate moment capacity.

EXAMPLE 24: The two-way reinforced concrete slab is supported as shown in the figure below. Using the
proposed moment proportions, determine the ultimate resisting moment per linear meter (m) using the yield
line theory when the slab is subjected to a load of 12kN/m2.

SOLUTION:
𝑊𝐸 = 𝑊𝐼
𝑊𝐸 = 𝑤 × 𝐴 × 𝛿
1 1 1
= 12 × ((2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 8) + (4 × 2 × 2 × 2))

𝑊𝐼 = 𝑚 × 𝑙 × 𝜃

(1.4𝑚 × 8 × × 2)

1
𝑊𝐼 = 𝑚 × 4 × × 2 = 2𝑚.
