Mini Project Amgoi

The document describes a solar-operated seed sowing machine project submitted by five students. The project aims to develop a machine that can sow seeds and fertilizer with a single operator while maintaining uniform seed spacing and depth. Traditional sowing methods are labor intensive and inconsistent. The new machine seeks to address issues like labor shortage and improve efficiency in the sowing process. It also aims to level the ground over a small area after sowing. The document provides background on the need for agricultural mechanization in India and the objectives of the seed sowing machine project.

SOLAR OPERATED SEED SOWING MACHINE

ABSTRACT

The basic objective of showing operation is to put the seed and fertilizer in
rows at desired depth and seed to seed spacing, cover the seeds with soil and
provide proper compaction over the seed. The recommended row to row
spacing, seed rate, seed to seed spacing and depth of seed placement vary
from crop to crop and for different agro-climatic conditions to achieve
optimum yields. The comparison between the traditional sowing method and
the new proposed machine which can perform a number of simultaneous
operations and has a number of advantages. As day by day the labor
availability becomes the great concern for the farmers and labor cost is more,
this machine reduces the efforts and total cost of sowing the seeds and
fertilizer placement.

SOLAR OPERATED SEED SOWING MACHINE

INTRODUCTION

Seed sowing machine is a device which helps in the sowing of seeds

in the desired position hence assisting the farmers in saving time and money.
The basic objective of sowing operation is to put the seed and seed in rows at
desired depth and seed to seed spacing, cover the seeds with soil and provide
proper compaction over the seed. The paper discusses different aspects of
seed sowing machine which will be helpful for the agriculture industry to
move towards mechanization. The agricultural industry has always been the
backbone of India’s sustained growth. As the population of India continues to
grow, the demand for produce grows as well. Hence, there is a greater need
for Multiple cropping on the farms and this, in turn, requires efficient and
high-capacity machines. Mechanization of the Agricultural industry in India
is still in a stage of infancy due to the lack of knowledge and the
unavailability of advanced tools and machinery. In traditional methods seed
sowing is done by broadcasting manually, opening furrows by a plough and
dropping seeds by hand. The agricultural has always been the backbone of
India’s sustained growth. As the population of India continues to grow, the
demand for produce grows as well. Hence, there is a greater need for multiple
cropping in the farms and this, in turn, requires efficient and time-saving
machines. The paper discusses different types of seed sowing machine which
will be helpful for the agriculture industry to move towards mechanization.
Traditional Sowing Methods: Traditional methods include broadcasting
manually, opening furrows by a country plough and dropping seeds by hand
and dropping seeds in the furrow through a bamboo/metal funnel attached to
a country plough. For sowing in small areas dibbling i.e., making holes or
slits by a stick or tool and dropping seeds by hand, is practiced. Multi row
traditional seeding devices with manual metering of seeds are quite popular

with experienced farmers. In manual seeding, it is not possible to achieve

uniformity in distribution of seeds. A farmer may sow at desired seed rate but
inter-row and intra-row distribution of seeds are likely to be uneven resulting
in bunching and gaps in the field. Traditional sowing methods have following
limitations: In manual seeding, it is not possible to achieve uniformity in
distribution of seeds. A farmer may sow at desired seed rate but inter-row
and intra-row distribution of seeds are likely to be uneven resulting in
bunching and gaps in field Poor control over depth of seed placement. Labor
requirement is high because two persons are required for dropping seed and
seed. The effect of inaccuracies in seed placement on plant stand is greater in
the case of crops India is set to be an agricultural based country
approximately 75% of the population of India is dependent on farming
directly or indirectly. Our farmers are using the same methods and equipment
for the ages. E.g. seed sowing, spraying, weeding etc. There is a need for the
development of effective spraying and weeding machine for increasing the
productivity. Most of the developing countries of Asia have the problem of
high population and low level of land productivity as compared to the
developed nations. One of the main reasons for low productivity is
insufficient power availability on the farms and low level of farm
mechanization. This is especially true for India. It is now realized the world
over that in order to meet the food requirements of the growing population
and rapid industrialization, modernization of agriculture is inescapable. It is
said that on many farms, production suffers because of improper seedbed
preparation and delayed sowing, harvesting, and threshing. Mechanization
enables the conservation of inputs through precision in metering ensuring
better distribution, reducing quantity needed for better response and

prevention of losses or wastage of inputs applied. Mechanization reduces the

unit cost of production through higher productivity and input conservation.

OBJECTIVES-

1. To manufacture seed sowing machine which can be operated

by thesingle operator.
2. To set fertilizer with sowed seed.
3. To level the ground in small extent
4. To enable the machine for the sowing of several of seed like
maize,wheat etc.
5. To maintain the same distance between two seeds at the time
of sowing process

Construction-

The project consist of Motor drive mechanism, seed sowing gearbox,

bicyclewheel hopper the two bicycle wheels are connected at the front side of
frame the hopper is mounted above the frame the drive given to the gear box
with the help of dc motorthe gearbox and planter are connected with the help
of flexible pipe.

COMPONENTS USED

1. Bicycle wheel

A bicycle wheel is a wheel, most commonly a wire wheel, designed for a

bicycle. Bicycle wheels are typically designed to fit into the frame and fork
via dropouts, and hold bicycle tyres. The tyre used is a tubeless tyre

2. BATTERY

SOLAR OPERATED SEED SOWING MACHINE

An automotive battery is a type of rechargeable battery that supplies electric

energy to an automobile.

Automotive SLI batteries are usually lead-acid type, and are made of six
galvanic cells in series to provide a 12-volt system. Each cell provides 2.1
volts for a total of 12.6 volts at full charge. Heavy vehicles, such as highway
trucks or tractors, often equipped with diesel engines, may have two batteries
in series for a 24-volt system or may have parallel strings of batteries

Solar panel refers to a panel designed to absorb the sun's rays as a source

of energy for generating electricity or heating.
We are using 12 volt,5 watt solar panel.

D.C. motor:

10 rpm dc motor is used to drive the shaft of seed drill gear box .An electric motor is a
machine which converts electrical energy to mechanical

energy. Its action is based on the principle that when a current-carrying conductor is placed in
a
magnetic field, it experiences a magnetic force whose direction is given by Fleming’s left
hand rule.
Fleming’s Left Hand Rule
Keep the force finger, middle finger and thumb of the left hand mutually perpendicular to one
another. If the fore finger indicates the direction of magnetic field and middle finger indicates
the
direction of current in the conductor, then the thumb indicates the direction of the motion of
conductor.
When a motor is in operation, it develops torque. This torque can produce mechanical
rotation.
DC motors are also like generators classified into shunt wound or series wound or compound
wound motors.
Principle of Operation of Dc Motor
A simplified model of such a motor is shown in
figure. The conductors are wound over a soft iron
core. DC supply is given to the field poles for

Hopper

The plastic hopper of 10 kg capacity is used to store the seeds. The gearbox is attached
below this hopper.

Working
When the man moves the project in forward direction then we start the switch which is
connected to the seed drill gear box then seeds are collected from the hopper and transfer to
the seed planter through flexible pipe the power utilized for running the motor is from battery
and the battery is further charged by the solar panel .

Advantages:

 Time savings.

 Less fatigue to labor.

 High speed operation.

 Applicable for small and medium farms

. No electric power required as working on solar

Limitations :

As the seed storage capacity is limited to 10 kg and only one row seed drilled at one time
hence time required for large farms
