History of northern Mindanao

is an administrative region in the Philippines, designated as Region X. It


comprises five provinces: Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis
Oriental, and Lanao del Norte, and two cities classified as highly urbanized, all
occupying the north-central part of Mindanao island, and the island-province of
Camiguin. The regional center is Cagayan de Oro. Lanao del Norte was
transferred to Northern Mindanao from Region XII (then called Central
Mindanao) by virtue of Executive Order No. 36 in September 2001.

constituent cities, 84 municipalities and 2,022 barangays.

Bukidnon

Bukidnon became a regular province on September 1, 1914 by virtue of


the creation of the Department of Mindano and Sulu. Finally, on March
10, 1917, under Act 2711 the province was officially created and called
the Province of Bukidnon

The Bukidnon Datu holds a great influence on the tribal and


communal life of the Bukidnons. Aside from maintaining peace and
order within the tribe, he also performs rituals like the Panlisigan
(driving away bad spirits) and Panomanoran (calling for the
entrance of spirits who guide the Datu in his decisions.

weaving, crafts, earth painting, beadwork,
patchwork and embroidery.

The name Camiguin is derived from the native word “Kamagong”, a


species of the ebony tree. Explorers Ferdinand Magellan and Miguel
Lopez de Legaspi landed in Camiguin in 1521 and 1565, respectively.

The Camiguin culture is a mixture of both Boholano and Cebuano


culture. It is very colorful and creative. The people are deeply
religious, hospitable and friendly. "Bisaya" is the major dialect in the
Province.

Lanao del Norte officially the Province of Lanao del Norte, is a province in the
Philippines located in the Northern Mindanao region. Its capital is Tubod.

What is Lanao del norte known for?


Largely agricultural, Lanao Del Norte is known for its bountiful harvests on land
and on sea.

Maranao is an Austronesian language spoken by the Maranao people in the


provinces of Lanao del Norte

Inhabitants of Lanao del Norte is a mixture of Maranaos and Cebuanos, with


some Chabacanos, Tausugs, Yakan,and Bajau

The political history of Occidental Mindoro necessarily begins with the


commercial history of Mindoro Island. Mindoro Island was originally known to
the ancients as Ma-i. It was formally called Mait, and known to the Chinese

Oriental mindoro

In 1837, the capital was transferred to Calapan and remained until June 13,
1950, when Mindoro was divided into two provinces. Oriental Mindoro retained
Calapan as its capital. Mindoro originally included the island of Maestro de
Campo, east of Pinamalayan, but the island has since become a part of
Romblon.

Oriental Mindoro's rich and arable land is suitable for agriculture. It produces
large quantities of rice, corn, coconut, vegetables and fruits like calamansi,
banana, rambutan, marang or uloy, lanzones and durian. For that, Oriental
Mindoro is also known as the Rice Granary and Fruit Basket of Southern
Tagalog.
