LEGAL PRESENCE

SSN VERIFICATION

__ The name and social security number that you provide on your application will be verified with
the Social Security Administration (SSA).

__ Information that cannot be verified will take additional time to process and could require you to

REAL ID

If you plan to fly within the U.S., visit a military base or other federal buildings, the Department of
Homeland Security will require identification that is REAL ID compliant (or show another acceptable
form of identification, such as a passport) beginning May 3, 2023. Wisconsin DMV issues REAL ID
compliant products (marked with a star in the upper right corner) in accordance with the federal
REAL ID Act of 2005.

If you would like a REAL ID, you must provide proof of the following when you visit a WI DMV
Customer Service Center:
__ Proof of Name and date of birth

__ Proof of Citizenship or legal status in the US

__ Proof of identity

__ Provide Social Security Number

__ Proof of Wisconsin Residency (where you live, 2 forms required)

__ Proof of Name change(s) (if applicable)

AN INVALID DRIVING PRIVILEGE IN ANY STATE WILL PREVENT YOU FROM GETTING A
LICENSE IN ANY OTHER STATE.

__ If you have been convicted of an alcohol/drug related offense in another state, you are required
to submit proof of compliance of an assessment or program plan when applying for a WI Driver
License. Proof of compliance may be required for all offenses that have occurred within the last 3 ½
years. Failure to submit proof of compliance will result in a loss of your WI driving privilege whether
or not you have a valid license from another state. You will not be able to reinstate your WI driving
privilege until you provide us with proof of your compliance.
