What do writers think about globalization?
John Tomlinson
John Tomlinson defined Globalization as a ‘complex process’ because it involves
rapid social change that is occurring simultaneously in different dimensions such
as in the world’s economy, politics, religion, physical environment,
communications and in culture. In simple definition – he called globalization a
process of accelerating “connectivity”.
Thomas Friedman
In his book, The World is Flat, Thomas Friedman analyzes globalization, primarily in the
early 21st century. He noted that there are 3 types of globalization that occurred
throughout the history: Globalization 1.o, Globalization 2.2 and Globalization 3.0.
Friedman is not talking about the actual earth being flat. He used this metaphor that
implies that globalization has flatten the world over the year. He wants us to know that we
can now “compete, connect, and collaborate globally as an individual.” The world is
viewed as a level playing field where all competitors have an equal opportunity.
Globalization is expanding with all this technology.
