Lanz and Zwane discuss five simple steps to help protect the environment: 1) recycle as much as possible, as recycling saves energy and resources while reducing pollution; 2) reduce waste produced and recycle materials like glass, paper, metal and plastic; 3) use less single-use plastics which harm the environment and take centuries to decompose; 4) save water and electricity by using efficient appliances and turning things off when not in use; 5) donate unused goods rather than throwing them away, and be careful about hazardous items being disposed of properly.

Both: Hi!!! My name is Lanz, and my name is Zwane.

Lanz: Nowadays, food, house and industrial waste fill our environment,
waterways and seas. Proper control of waste and recycling are ways to have
a greater environment for the future.
Zwane: Let’s take care of the environment with these 5 simple steps to
protect and conserve the environment. We can help the environment and
the living things that live in.

Lanz: Recycle as much as you can. If you’re not recycling, then you’re not
contributing to the environment. Recycling saves energy, conserves natural
resources, and decreases pollution.
Zwane: Recycling is such a basic concept, but so many people fail to
implement it. Reduce the amount of waste you produce. Recycle anything
that is: glass, paper, metal and plastic.
Zwane: Use less plastics and use alternatives. Single-use plastics (plastic
bags, plastic diapers, cutlery, stirrers, cups, bags, bottles, etc.) are harmful to
the environment. Decomposition takes hundreds of years.
Lanz: Thrown-away plastic bags wind up in landfills or in other parts of the
ecosystem. Animals that get stuck in them or mistake them for food can die.
To address this issue, purchase less plastic, bring a reusable shopping bag,
and reuse plastic bags that you get from stores.
Zwane: Save water and electricity. If you want to save electricity, instead of
conventional lights, choose energy-efficient ones. They last longer, and they
use little electricity for a brighter light. When you're not using an appliance,
unplug it.
Lanz: When you are not in a room and will not be using it, turn off the lights.
If you want to save water, take a shower instead of a bath and shorten your
shower time. When the faucet isn't in use, but it's still open, close it.
Zwane: Donate used goods. Donating is a much better option than throwing
away used consumer products in the trash.
Lanz: Don't throw away perfectly nice items simply because you've become
tired of them or no longer need them. Give your old clothes, appliances,
furniture, and other unneeded items to a charity shop, a local church, or a
free online collection service.
Zwane: Be careful of what you throw away. Many items can be thrown out
or recycled, but be cautious about what you discard.
Lanz: Inside aerosol cans, paint, batteries, automotive parts, and fluorescent
light bulbs have chemicals that could further damage the environment. We
may be harmed by medical waste, construction debris, tires, and gadgets.
Make sure to keep them apart from regular trash and place them in
designated hazardous waste cans.
