there is two knocks on the door.

TONY: AYO, anyone in there?

MADI: Yeah, hold on a sec.

MADI: Yeah. Just a second! Jesus

SOUND EFFECTS: Door opens, and music gets louder.

MADI: What do you want?

TONY: The bathroom. Obviously. Wait, you’re not that
girl who stabbed her dad when she was a kid
are you?

MADI: Move. You’re in my way.

TONY: I’m in your way?! Way to change the subject

psycho.

MADI: Sorry, what has this got to do with you?

NICK: Is there a problem here?

MADI: Nope, all good. I was just about to leave.

NICK: Let me drive you home.

MADI: I don’t need to be driven home. I can walk.

NICK: And I can drive.

MADI: Are you drunk?

NICK: Are you?

MADI: Fine, but I’m choosing the music.

NICK: Fine.

SOUND EFFECTS: Door opens, and music gets quieter and you can
hear the rain and thunder.

NICK: You sure that everything was fine back there?

MADI: Yeah, it’s all good.

MADI: Oh, I didn’t know it was gonna rain today.

NICK: Yeah, I knew. My coach told us when we were

playing a match earlier today.
MADI: You play football?

NICK: Yeah, you should know.

MADI: Why would I know?

NICK: I’m the captain, everyone knows me.

MADI: Oh, ok. Anyway, how far is your car.

NICK: Just across the road. Right there see, do you

want my jacket? You can come back to mine and
dry off if you want.

MADI: No, it’s fine let’s just get to the car.

SOUND EFFECTS: Car unlocks, and car door opens.

SCENE TWO: EXT. GETTING INTO THE CAR- AFTERNOON

(Madi, Nick)

SOUND EFFECTS: Music playing in the distance. Footsteps on the

wet ground. Car door unlocks and opens doors.

NICK: So what’s you’re deal anyway?

MADI: My deal?!
NICK: Yeah, you’re deal. You shut people out. You
isolate yourself, why?
MADI: Why not.
NICK: See what I mean? Right there?
MADI: Right where?
NADI: I’m trying to have a conversation with you and
you give me two worded answers.
MADI: Well excuse me if I don’t want to make small
talk with the high school football captain.
NICK: (sarcastically) Ooo, ouch. That hurt. Don’t
think I’ll recover from that one.
MADI: (laughs) Also, um, thanks for sticking up for
me back there.
NICK: No problem, you didn’t really stab your dad?
Did you?
MADI: I was young, I came home from school-
NICK: So, you did?
MADI: Let me finish speaking, I came home one day
and my dad was- he was punching my mum. She
clearly needed help and I had no idea what to
do so I called the police. I never stabbed
him, rumours spread like wildfire. Apparently,
I stabbed him to save my mum. I was 7?!
NICK: Why didn’t you do anything about it?
MADI: About what?
NICK: The rumours.
MADI: There’s no point. I can’t stop the rumours and
I can’t change people’s minds who believe
them.
NICK: Well, I believe you.
MADI: You know, you’re not as bad as everyone makes
you seem.
NICK: People love me what are you talking about?
MADI: I’ve heard otherwise.
NICK: Sounds like you’re listening to rumours, you
of all people should know better.
MADI: Fair point, I was trying to say that you’re a
nice guy.
NICK: Thanks, you too?
MADI: What, I’m a nice guy?
NICK: You know what I meant.
MADI: Yeah.
NICK: Music?
MADI: What?
NICK: You said you wanted to choose the music?
MADI: Oh, um, yeah.

SOUND EFFECTS: You can hear the car driving in the rain. Then
the radio switches between stations and is glitching.

MADI: Looks like the radio’s busted.

NICK: Oh, the storm must be interfering with the

signal. I have some cd’s on the back seat. Let
me grab them.
MADI: OMG Nick, watch out!

SOUND EFFECTS: Music is playing with footsteps in the leaves.

MADI: What is this place? Hello? Mum? Dad? Mum, why

is dad here?
MUM: What do you mean sweetheart?
MADI: Why is he here?
MUM: Why wouldn’t he be.
DAD: Are you okay?
MADI: Um? What’s going on guys?
MUM: I’m going to put the kettle on, do you want
some tea.
MADI: Yes please, but why is Dad here?
MUM: What’s up with you Madi, you seem a bit...
off. You seem a bit OFF.
SOUND EFFECTS: High pitch buzzing starts.

MUM: You’d be better if you woke up.

MADI: What do you mean? I am awake.
MUM: Don’t worry, someone will be seeing you
shortly.
MADI: Okay?
MUM: Let me put the tv on whilst you wait. Madi,
would you do me a favour? Open your eyes. Open
your eyes.

SOUND EFFECTS: Music fades away and the heart monitor beeps
and you can hear the hospital ambience.

DOCTOR: Can you hear me? She’s waking up. We’re losing
her!
