Why did I choose to become a teacher?

“In teaching you cannot see the fruit of a day’s work. It is invisible and remains so,
maybe for twenty years. “

By Jacques Barzun

I want to become a teacher because; I want to be part of the success of my students, I

want sharing my experiences. I know that is not easy to become a teacher but for me nothing is

impossible in the presence of GOD.

My parents inspired me to become a teacher because, I experience when I was in

elementary that my parents can’t teach us on our assignments because they did not finish college

and they don’t know how to answer most of our assignments that’s why we need to go to our

auntie just to help us answering those assignments.

I decided to be a teacher because I don’t want to experience those things that I cannot

answer the assignments of my children, and from the beginning I already want to become a

teacher, because I want to become part of the success of my students and I know it is my calling

from God.

In a practical way, I choose to become a teacher because, I know that there are many

school which is lock of teacher nowadays and I choose to become a teacher rather than to

become a nurse because in every municipality there just have one hospital but in every barangay

there is a school.
Other says that there is no money in teaching, yes that’s right but the most important

thing is you just not teach, you just not inspired but you touch the life of your students, you

become part of their lives.

Despite of many difficulties like financial problem and many more I still pursue teaching

because I really want to become a teacher and I know that God has a plan for me and l know that

pursuing to finish this education course I know that my parents become happy for me because to

become a teacher is also their dream for me.

My Most Unforgettable Experience in ITEd/Significant Experiences in ITEd

Being a leader is not easy, but my most unforgettable experience in Institute of Teacher

Education (ITEd) is when I become a leader. I’ am the Senior Vice-President of Future Mentor’s

Organization at present but before being the senior Vice-president of this Organization I’ am the

President of the Future Science Educator’s a minor organization of the General Science major in

Institute of Teacher Education,

I have my unforgettable experience when I was organized an event entitled: 3 rd Scientific

Congress, were in we conducted a poster making contest, essay writing contest, product

development, quiz bee and the main event which is the Earth Friendly Fashion summit, wherein

the contestant will make a costume made of recyclable materials. That was my first time to

become a leader and also to organized an event, that’s why when I’m not expecting that this

event get an award during the “Gawad Sinukuan Award” it is a award giving body in PAC, it’s

get the award “Best skills activity” even though it is just a minor award I thank God that He gave

me the opportunity to be the leader of that organization and the organizer of that event.

I cherish this experience because it helps be to boost my self confidence, and my

leadership ability, this experience me in my teaching career were in it is easy to me to organized

event.

Another unforgettable experience in ITEd is when I won as the Senior Vice-president of

the Future Mentor’s Organization, I run for this position because I want to serve my fellow

students and the institute.

At first I’ am not expecting to win during the election because I know that the candidate

of the other party deserve also to win, but I think I’ am Bless because majority of the students of

ITEd gave their vote to me, and I will make sure that I will give the best that I can give as their

Senior Vice-President, I will not break the trust and support that they gave to me.
My Philosophy in Teaching

In education you will not just teach the students you must follow a certain principle, each

of us as our own principle and believes on teaching in this part I will share my believes in

teaching as well as my principle and my realization of an ideal teacher.

I believe that to be a teacher you will not be contented that you finish the lesson in one

hour or more but for me the important is to ensure if your students really learned or really

understand the topic or lesson you discussed. My philosophy in teaching is to ensure that my

students learned on my discussion and I want them to feel every lesson that we are discussing.

But, I don’t want to be a terror teacher I want my students enjoy my class, I want them be

open to me wherein they will not afraid to say that they don’t understand the lesson and I need to

elaborate the lesson I want my lesson challenging and interesting I will bring new interesting

facts and ideas.

When it comes in discipline, I will impose rules and regulations on my class room and I

will consistently implement these, as a teacher we will not wait for troubles before we will take

solutions.

I believe an ideal teacher, first, has a powerful faith in the future. Like the forester

planting a tree seedling knowing he or she will never see the plant in all its glory, I know I may

never see the fruits of my labors as teacher. My calling is to plant and nurture seeds that will

grow and shape tomorrow. As like what I’ am saying I want to be part in shaping the life of my

students.
The good teacher knows and understands students, how they develop and learn. I know

that students actively construct and transform their own knowledge based on past experiences

and prior learning. I know that students do not all learn in the same way or at the same rate. I

believe it is my responsibility as a teacher to be an effective observer of my students’ interests,

abilities, and prior knowledge. I must then plan learning experiences that will both challenge and

allow every student to think and grow. I want my students explore every single topic that I’ am

discussing.
How do I Visualize Myself Ten Years from now?

I’ am now on my practice teaching days, after this I will now apply all the learning and

experiences that I had. And I will use this experiences to be a successful person as well as in the

field of teaching and also as a father to my future family that I will build.

After graduating I will take the licensure examination for teacher for me to be a full

pledge teacher, and I want to render my service in public school. While I’ am teaching I will

continue studying to get the Master’s Degree, not just to get a high rank in school but also to get

more knowledge, because I believe as a teacher you don’t need to stop learning. After getting

the Master’s Degree I will again continue studying in Doctoral I want my name become longer

“Chrisper C. Escoto MA.Ed., Ph.D.”.

While I’ am teaching and studying I will grant my promised to my parents wherein I will

support my brother and sisters to their studying. After graduating in Doctoral I have now a high

position in one of the state university in the Philippines, but as much as possible I want to teach

in Pampanga Agricultural College, for me it is possible because I know that if I planned for it

God will provide if He knows that you worked for it.

After five years I’ am then 25 years old and that was my planned to get married. After

that I will buy my own house and I want to build my own business. After married I will also

continuing helping my parents in their financial needs and it is also my dream to buy them their

own house.
I will give my parents tour from different countries; I will pay all the sacrifices that they

give to me. I want them to be happy because they a child like me. I don’t want to disappoint

them that they work just to finish my education course.

Being a successful person as well as a teacher and a model father, brother and child, that

how visualized myself then years from now. Ten years from now my cabinet is full of plaque and

medals.
Problems or Flaws I have Observed in Public School where I had my

Pre Service Teaching and my Recommendations

Dolores National High School is a Public school in Magalang Pampanga. Many students

are studying here coming from nearby barangay and municipality. As a student teacher I started

loves this place and the students but like other school Dolores National High School is not a

perfect school it has also its weaknesses.

In almost three years that have my practice teaching in this school the Dolores National

High School, I observed many flaws or weaknesses of this school, first the classroom, most of

the classrooms are not conducive in learning, and they don’t have a clean and functional comfort

room for the students, no electric fan and they are very close to the other room.

Another problem is the students, most of the students don’t have a good attitude, they

don’t have ethics, but not all. Another is the way on how teachers review the students for the

periodical exam or monthly exam, because the teacher review the students using the test paper

that they going to use during the test. And during the periodical exam the test paper is not made

by the teacher it is came from the Department of Education, the problem there is that the content

of the exam is out of the coverage of the lesson.

Another is that the school does not have enough Laboratory apparatus in their science

laboratory, although there is a new apparatuses came from the Department of Education, but the

problem is those apparatuses is not enough in a big group of students.

I recommend to the school to build additional class room, a class room which is

conducive in learning means to say that they are well ventilated, have a clean and functional

comfort room for the students, teach the students about the ethics and norms because most of

them they don’t have norms and ethics.

I also recommend changing the strategy of the teacher in reviewing the students to their

exam because I think reviewing the students using the test paper that they will also use in the

exam is not effective; we cannot say if the students really learned of they just memorized the

answers.
