3.2.2.4.3 Application Overview

MD02A is an optical transponder unit (OTU) board. It performs mutual conversion between
optical signals received from the client side and OTU4/OTUC2 signals.
MD02A is an optical transponder unit (OTU) board. This board supports access of multiple types
of services such as Ethernet, OTN, SAN, and SDH services on the client side and output of
OTU4/OTUC2 optical signals on the WDM side. Table 1 describes the client side and WDM side
of the MD02A board.

Table 1 Description of the MD02A board

MD02A Description

Client side The following lists the types of services received through client-side optical ports:
Ethernet services: 10GE LAN, 10GE WAN, 25GE, 40GE, and 100GE
OTN services: OTU2, OTU2e, and OTU4
SDH/SONET service: STM-64/OC-192
SAN services: FC800, FICON8G, FC1200, FC1600, and FC3200

NOTE:
STM-64, OC-192, and 10GE WAN services are automatically identified as STM-64
services. FC800/FICON8G services are identified as FC800 services.

WDM side As a programmable OTU board, the MD02A board provides functions that
flexibly change with the port working mode. The WDM-side port of the MD02A
board can be set to work in the following modes as required:
 100G_QPSK
 100G_wDCM_QPSK
 200G_16QAM
 Common mode
 Single-span OA-free mode: This mode is applicable to scenarios where no
OA board is configured and the point-to-point loss is less than 21.5 dB (the
fiber insertion loss coefficient is 0.36 dB/km).
 200G_16QAM-H
 200G_e16QAM (default)

NOTE:
The WDM-side optical power of the TMN1MD02AT27, TMN2MD02AT29, and
TMN2MD02AT29-R1 boards is tunable.

In addition, two modes support Application Scenario in Line Mode and Application
Scenario in Relay Mode respectively.

3.2.2.4.4 Application Scenario in Line Mode

Different port modes on the WDM side are applicable to different application scenarios.

 In this scenario, Board Working Mode must be set to Line mode.

 The L1 and L2 ports on the line side are independent of each other and can be set to different line-side modes.
 By default, the services received by ports C1, C2, and C5 to C12 are output through the line-side port L1, and
the services received by ports C3, C4, and C13 to C16 are output through the line-side port L2.
 You need to manually configure the line-side port L1 preferentially for the services received by ports C13 to C16
when:
 Only the fixed-side optical module L1 outputs signals on the line side.
 Small-granularity services from C5 to C16 need to be encapsulated together.
 In manual configuration mode, when the output port needs to be changed for services received by ports C13 to
C16, the original client-side port mode and service type need to be set to None.

 Line-Side 200G Mode (Port L2 for Services from Ports C13 to C16)
This topic describes the application scenarios and logical ports when the WDM-side port works
in 200G mode and the services received by ports C13 to C16 are output through port L2 by
default.

 Line-Side 200G Mode (Port L1 for Services from Ports C13 to C16)
This topic describes the application scenarios and logical ports when the WDM-side port works
in 200G mode and the services received by ports C13 to C16 are manually set to output through
port L1.

 Line-Side 100G Mode (Services Received Through Ports C13 to C16 Are Output by the Line-Side Port L2)
This topic describes the application scenarios and logical ports when the WDM-side port works
in 100G mode and the services received by the C13 to C16 ports are encapsulated using OP2 and
output by the line-side port L2 by default.

 Line-Side 100G Mode (Services Received Through Ports C13 to C16 Are Output by the Line-Side Port L1)
This topic describes the application scenarios and logical ports when the WDM-side port works
in 100G mode and the services received by the C13 to C16 ports are encapsulated using OP1 and
output through the line-side port L1.

performs mutual conversion between one OTU4 signal and optical signals with a total rate not
exceeding 200GE on the client side.

3.2.2.4.5 Application Scenario in Relay Mode

In relay mode, electrical regeneration of OTU4/OTUC2 signals can be implemented.

 In this scenario, Board Working Mode must be set to Relay mode.

 Only the line rate of the L1 port can be switched, and the L2 port is automatically switched with L1.

When the board works in 100G_QPSK/100G_wDCM_QPSK mode, the MD02A board can
implement bidirectional regeneration of two OTU4 signals, as shown in Figure 1.

When the board works in 200G_16QAM/200G_e16QAM/200G_16QAM-H mode, the MD02A

board can implement bidirectional regeneration of two OTUC2 signals, as shown in Figure 2.
