I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
A. Identify the types of the prepositions (TIME, PLACE, AND DIRECTION)
B. Use prepositions in constructing sentences.
C. Realize the importance of using appropriate prepositions in sentence.

three players.

The two groups will fall in line, then I will


choose 2 players. One from each group to
play in every round.

I will tell every player to bring me pictures of


different facial expression that is hidden

player to imitate the facial expression shown
in the picture.

Then the other player will explain to the


teacher what they saw in the picture.

The player who will win in each round will get


one point. The group who earned the highest
points will be announced as winners.

their functions, and their types.

But before we discuss our topic today, let us


first unlock a difficult word.

2. Unlocking of Difficulties

 Dawn - the first appearance of light in


the sky before sunrise.
 Departure - the action of leaving,
especially to start a journey.
 Enclosed - surrounded or closed off
on all sides.
 Nap - sleep lightly or briefly,
especially during the day
 Peeped - look quickly and furtively at
something, especially through a
narrow opening
 Vanished - disappear suddenly and
completely

show location of an object.

So, today we are going to discuss some of the


types of prepositions. I have here the three
types of prepositions they are Preposition of
Time, Preposition of Place and Preposition of
Direction.

PREPOSITION OF TIME:

These are one of the examples of


Prepositions of time (AGO, SINCE, AND
BEFORE)

Students, kindly read the first example


AGO- Refers to how far back in time
something happened
Examples:
1. He left the house over an hour ago.
2. You were supposed to be here an hour
ago.
3. I only saw you a week ago, but it’s nice to
see you again.

The second example everybody read.

SINCE- Refers to a point in time when


something began.
Examples:
1. Forty years have passed away since they
met.
2. I haven’t seen you since Monday
3. I’ve been working since 10 this morning.

And the last example for the preposition of


time, everybody read.

BEFORE- Refers to any time before to a


specific point in time.
Examples:
1. She’s always up before dawn.
2. She became a lawyer as her father had
before her.
3. Leave your keys at reception before
departure.

PREPOSITION OF PLACE: A preposition of


place is a preposition that is used to refer to
a place where something or someone is
located.

These are one of the examples of


Prepositions of Place (AT, IN, AND ON)

Students, kindly read the first example.

AT- A preposition of place which is used to


discuss a certain point
Examples:
1. We spent a quiet evening at home.
2. The mall is located at the intersection of
Main Street and Third Avenue.
3. Jessie waited for Jim at the corner.

The second example everybody read.

IN- A preposition of place which is used to


discuss an enclosed space
Examples:
1. I’m growing tomatoes in my garden.
2. Marie was born in Paris, France.
3. I was so tired that I took a nap in the car.
And the last example for the preposition of
place, everybody read.

ON- A preposition of time which is used to


discuss a surface
Examples:
1. Please place the bouquet on the table.
2. I really wish you would stop throwing your
dirty clothes on the floor.
3. What’s on the menu this evening?

PREPOSITION OF DIRECTION- Preposition of


direction can be classified into simple or
compound prepositions.

These are one of the examples of Preposition


of Direction (ABOVE, ACROSS, AND BEHIND)

Students, kindly read the first example.

ABOVE- A preposition of direction which is


higher than
Examples:
1. The water came above our knees.
2. We were flying above the clouds
3. The people in the apartment above mine.

The second example everybody read.

Across- The preposition across just from the


word cross means to move from one side to
another.
Examples:
1. When you travel to the highlands you need
to get a boat to take you across the ocean.
2. The zebra crossing is usually white painted
across the road.
3. The garbage is spread across the street.

And the last example for the preposition of


direction, everybody read.

BEHIND- A preposition of direction which is


in or to a place or situation in the back of or
to the rear of look behind you put behind
bars.
Examples:
1. She ran off and hid behind a tree.
2. The sun peeped out from behind the
clouds.
3. The sun vanished behind the trees.

6. Application

In this activity, the class will be divided into


three groups. Each group will be assigned in
each preposition (TIME, PLACE, AND
DIRECTION). Group 1 will be automatically
assigned in preposition of time and to be
followed by groups 2 and 3. Each group will
construct sentences using the prepositions
through the given pictures. You will construct
sentences at least 5 for every type of
prepositions. I will give you 10 minutes only
to answer.

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Fill in the blanks with the appropriate preposition to complete the sentence and
identify the type of prepositions. Choose the correct prepositions to complete the sentence at
the box below.
