Is the Philippines capable of using power plant?

Yes. Following the Philippine government's request, the Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR)
was held at the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant. The Philippines is currently the only ASEAN country with a
fully operational nuclear power facility. Alfonso Cusi, the Philippines' Energy Secretary, stated the
country is "openly investigating" the viability of deploying nuclear power as a means of addressing
energy security and equity. The Philippines' energy demand is anticipated to triple by 2040 due to its
fast-growing economy. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated that the Philippines is
taking a systematic approach to finalizing its nuclear power strategy and completing related
infrastructure development. The Philippines's current nuclear power facility, located in Morong, Bataan
province, is one of 13 prospective locations dispersed over the country. The power plant was built 30
years ago during the Marcos administration in response to the 1973 oil crisis, but it was never put into
service.

operate the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant?

The BNPP was the Philippines' first and only nuclear power plant, but it was never put into
operation due to safety concerns as well as issues of corruption and cronyism during the late
president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s regime. Despite being idle for decades, the Bataan Nuclear
Power Plant (BNPP) can still operate safely, according to a Philippine Nuclear Research Institute
(PNRI) expert, despite the government's plans to restart the plant.
