1. Product Outline
CR-IR359 is a small type reader with the function of 50μ reading of HR-V IP
(single-sided IP for mammography), which is developed from CR-IR356. This
equipment is compliance with the RoHS Directive other than the functionalities. The
reading function for HR-V IP is available after installing the optional key software to
CR-IR359. It is not possible to read a HR-V IP without installing this software.
The newly developed Type CH Cassette for CR-IR359 is used when reading a HR-V IP.
There are two sizes of the cassettes, 24x30 cm and 18x24 cm.
(Type CH cassette is a succession of Type CM cassette. It is also used with the other
reading units in which Type CM cassette is available.)
And both inch and metric cassettes are available without mechanical or software setting.
The IP reading modes for CR-IR359 (with or without the key software) and CR-IR356
settings are described in the table below.

<Additional Information for Processing HR-V IP>
(1) Before shipping, operation check and adjustment for HR-V IP 20 lines / mm reading
have been carried out on all CR-IR359. Therefore, only installing the optional key
software (CD included in 50MICRON UPGRADE KIT) is needed to make CR-IR359
possible to read HR-V IP with 20 lines/mm sampling rate. (It is not necessary to
change settings for hardware or adjust a scanner.) * Regarding equipments
shipped for U.S., the optional key software has already been installed to every
equipment at shipment.
(2) CR-IR359 detects the IP types (St type, HR-V type etc.) by reading their barcodes.
If HR-V IP is set to the machine, which the optional key software has not been
installed to, it will display the error and eject IP.
(3) The same hardware is used for the optical unit of CR-IR359 and that of CR-IR356.
However, the laser spot diameter of the area where the laser spot output intensity is
high is small enough to read 20 lines/mm. Because of this reading HR-V IP with 20
lines/mm (main scanning direction / sub scanning direction) the sharpness of the
image has been improved.

1
(4) The scanner board (SCN23A board) has been modified to be able to optimally
process HR-V IP, and it improved the image quality for reading HR-V IP. (The
function of the SCN23A for processing ST IP has not been changed.)

2. Servicing Operation for CR-IR 359
2-1. Installation
(1) Difference in installation from CR-IR356
Following are the different points from CR-IR356 installation (Refer to IN section in the
359 Service Manual).
1) Inch / Metric Mechanical Setting : The design modification is applied to CR-IR359 as
to be able to process both inch / metric size cassette, so this setting is not needed.
2) Configuration Setting when Installing APL Software
INCH OR METRIC SETTING : Not necessary.
GENERATION SETTING : Not necessary. (The GENERATION of ST IP is recognized
by the barcode as the same with CR-IR356. HR-V IP is also recognized by the IP
barcode.)
3) Installing the 50μ Upgrade Kit Key Software
Following operations are needed if the key software is installed.
Replacing the Operation Manual for CR-IR359
Attaching the cassette insertion label (½1) included in the 50μ upgrade kit on the
shipment label.
(½1) Labels for metric / inch cassette are included in the upgrade kit. Attach a proper label
for your customer.

(REFERENCE) Booting / Shutting down Time

CR-IR359 need more time for booting (From powering ON to be ready for inserting / reading a
cassette) and shutting down compared to CR-IR356. Refer below for the reasons.
1) The parameters for processing HR-V IP are added, so the loading time of the program is
increased.
2) The adjustment time of sub-scanning grip increased as the thickness of IP is different
between HR-V IP and ST IP.

2-2. Preventive Maintenance / Scanner Adjustment

(1) Difference in Preventive Maintenance from CR-IR356
Following are the different points from CR-IR356 (Refer to PM section in the 359
Service Manual).
1) Air Filters : Only yearly cleaning is needed, and replacement is not required.
2) Checking Image Unevenness / Position : Check using ST and HR-V IP if the 50μ key
software is installed.
3) Checking S Value : Check using ST and HR-V IP if the 50μ key software is installed.

(2) Scanner Adjustment (Refer to 14 and 15 of MC section in the 359 Service

Manual)
(2-1) CR-IR359 has a function for processing HR-V IP, so Sub Scan Format Adjustment
/ Shading/Sensitivity Correction for HR-V IP are added to the items for CR-IR356.
Compared to CR-IR356, the correction data for HR-V IP is added in the data CD
attached to each equipment at shipping. Also the correction data for HR-V IP is included
in the data attached to service parts such us scanner unit / light-collecting guide.

(2-2) When replacing the scanner unit or light-collecting guide, follow the procedure for
CR-IR356 to restore the data from the attached CD. If fine adjustment is needed after
restoring the data, manual adjustment is available as the same with CR-IR356.
The difference in the scanner adjustment menu (Scanner adjustment in MUTL of
PC-TOOL) between CR-IR359 and CR-IR356 is described below. (9 means
adjustable, and – means no corresponding menu.)

(2-3) Point of Scanner Correction

Manual Adjustment (FERQ/Pixel) : Corrected data using ST IP is applied to HR-V IP.
Sensitivity Correction : The data is adjusted independently for ST and HR-V IP.
Shading/Sensitivity Correction (HR) : Use the HR-V IP exposed by W tube for
Shading(Speed correction)/Sensitivity correction as the same with ST IP. But the
entered X-ray dose in this menu is processed as the X-ray dose for Mo tube, so the
adjustment is not appropriate. Use ‘Sensitivity Correction (HR)’ or ‘Special Sensitivity
Correction’ menu for sensitivity correction of HR-V IP.
Procedures for manually adjusting the scanner are described in document 1.

6
2-4. Main Parts Compatibility
CR-IR359 is developed from CR-IR356, but some service parts are not compatible
because of the following design changes.
The cassette set unit is modified as to read both inch/metric cassettes (Inch/metric
detection sensor SA16 is added and the cassette reception part is changed to movable).
The IP conveyance mechanism is changed as the conveyance direction (vertically or
horizontally) is different (½1) between 24x30cm HR-V IP and 24x30cm ST IP.
(The conveyance roller is added to the cassette set unit, center roller in the
sub-scanning unit is modified, side-positioning arm is changed, numbers of shock
absorbers on the filters in the erasure unit are changed, etc.)
The thickness of HR-V IP is different from ST IP, so the grip mechanism in the side
-scanning unit is modified (The reduction ratio of grip controlling motor is changed).
The board / harness is changed to be RoHS compliant. (Refer to Document 2).

4. Cassette Type CH / Adapter

(1) Cassette Type CH
Cassette Type CH is developed based on Cassette Type CM and it is a succession of
Cassette Type CM. There are two sizes of the cassettes, 24x30cm and 18x24cm. When
reading a 24x30cm cassette in CR-IR359, install the cassette CH optional adapter to the
cassette before inserting it to CR-IR359.
(Caution) If the cassette type CH is inserted to CR-IR359 without installing the 50 μ
upgrade kit key software, the error 11407 (IP type not supported) will be displayed and
IP will not be processed.

(2) Adapter
The width of 24x30cm cassette type CH is not corresponding to the available cassette
width (Document 5) in CR-IR359. So the function for pushing the cassette cover
opening slider on the opposite reference side is needed to process the 24x30cm
cassette type CH. The cassette opening mechanism is the same with CR-IR356, but the
width of the cassette is adjusted to the big sized cassette (14x17inch or 17x17inch) by
installing the adapter to the cassette.

½24x30cm Cassette Cover Opening Operation

The cassette cover opening slider on the opposite reference side is linked to the adapter
slider. When the 24x30cm cassette type CH is inserted to CR-IR359, the adapter slider
is pushed and the cassette cover opening slider will be pushed correspondingly.

(3) Operation at Installation (Refer to Safety / MD section in the Cassette Service

Manual)
The caution label is supplied with the adapter. Attach the label of the appropriate
language to the adapter.

8
When using the 24x30cm Cassette type CH in CR-IR359, remove the caps of the
adapter holes before installing the adapter.
