Position Paper
Technology is constantly developing, whether it is for communication, productivity, or as a tool
with access to multiple resources. Educators are responsible for guiding students as they prepare
for their future and become an active member of society. Technology’s role in education has
only continued to grow and is a vital tool in the classroom that can make learning easier.
Technology is used every day to be innovative, resourceful, and productive.
The internet is one of the pillars of technology which is used by both educators and students. The
internet offers an infinite number of possibilities that can open a classroom into a diverse range
of tools that can be useful in school. Arguably, the internet has opposed some dangers to
education like the misuse to cheat or uninformed students accessible to threats. There are new
ways to help avoid this like informing students on how to safely use technology and programs
that can monitor a student’s activity online. The incorporation of technology in the classroom is
valuable to students later because technology is used all around us. School districts should focus
on creating an initiative to prepare students on what they can expect in society.
Though there may be a discrepancy in the devices available to students, there is still a benefit to
learning how to use these tools and ways to incorporate technology in their education. During the
pandemic, a digital gap was encountered for educators who were unfamiliar with technology.
This was a problem because it set students and schools back. It would have been beneficial to
have teachers and students already familiar with these tools because technology made learning at
home possible. It is important to know how to use the tools around us especially when it comes
with technology, so students are prepared for situations like these. Technology is important for
more than social media and has so many uses that can benefit a students education.

Identification of Standards
The Nevada Computer and Technology Standards are derived from the Nations Education
Technology Standards. The NETS-S is a in depth guide on how standards are to be implied in a
classroom without being too constrictive. There is a considerable number of similarities between
the two but have a major difference on overall targets. The national level standards can be used
broadly and modified to fit lessons fit into the standards.
The Nevada and national standards can not only fit for technology learning but can be
incorporated while learning different subjects. Both standards are set to help students learn to use
technology not just in a academic setting but in the real world. These standards are also diverse
enough to work with a variety of different devices and tools. The Nevada standards are more
specific on what they are focused on like communication, media, and how to support learning.
The national standards can have a large interpretation for students allowing for more creativity
and personality to it.
The lesson plan I created works with the ISTE standard 1.6.b which says, “Students create
original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations”. Students
are to use media and information to create their own project to show their work. Students will
present their work in groups and share what they have learned.

Lesson Plan
Name of lesson: The anatomy of a flower
• Grade Level Appropriateness: 4th grade
• Technology Content Standard Addressed: ISTE standard 1.6.b “Students create original
works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations.”
• Other Content Standard Addressed: Standard 4.M.4 “Identify flower parts and their
functions”
• Objective: Students will be able to identify flower parts and be able to use different media to
construct their own flower with parts. Students will label their flower parts with a description of
its purpose.
• Materials needed to facilitate the lesson: Chromebooks & google slides, paper, and pencil
• Suggested group size: Student will work individually but will present work in groups of 4-5
• Procedures:
Step 1- Students will use their Chromebook and use the google slides program. They will create
a new blank slide to start off and choose a flower to design.
Step 2- Students will use shapes by inserting them from google slides to make a flower. Shapes
should have color and text boxes to label the parts.
Step 3. Students will write the parts to their flower on a separate paper with a description of what
the purpose of the flower is.
Step 4. Students will present their work in groups by explaining the parts and description.
Students who are listening must write two things they learned per demonstration.

• Assessment: Students will be graded by the image they created of their flower and the paper
with descriptions of the parts of the flower. Students will also get participation points for their
paper on what they learned from their peers.
